Update
Relief Funds to Date: 894,887 gold

/// Apologies to everyone. With Darkshard stepping down some of the events unfortunately stagnated. Some other events and plots were tied up quietly and still others are ongoing as various DMs valiantly pick up the pieces. I've been putting off posting until I had a better grasp of how and where things were going so I'm going to do a basic overview here of what's been happening since the last post. ///

Project One: Opening Land Trade
- The routes to the north, specifically Waterdeep are mostly clear. There are still bandits but not in the number as before. Balder's Gate is recieving some of it's first breaths of merchantile air in some time. Things are beginning to pick up.
- The routes to the east, specifically Triel, have had some problems. The Radiant Heart and the Red Wizards of Thay have helped clear out a lich problem. While things are smoothing out to the east, the root cause of the banditry has not yet been uncovered.
- The routes to the south, specifically Amn, are still pretty much non-existent because of the extreme hostility between Amn and Balder's Gate.

Caravans, especially the ones purchased with City Relief funds, are moving back and forth providing cheap export for merchants most in need and providing farmers with seed, tool and winter stores on import.

200,000 gold has so far gone into this further endeavor.

Project Two: Opening Sea Trade
- James has an open agreement with Captain Mealir and the questionable Captain Kalma to take on fighters into their chips and seek out/destroy the ships/fleet behind the destruction and blockade against sea-trade. Approximately 100,000 gold has been promised so far. ((This event is pending a DM taking it up.))
- Undead and human/living assailants have both been reported as culprits behind the attacks, but who or why is unknown.

Project Three: Helping the Farmers/Fixing the Drought Problem
- Unknown to all, the Druids of the Elder Circle had already removed the Malarite powers that had previously been blocking druidic efforts to stop the drought.
- Thus, during a harvest festival, largely subsidized and supplied by the City Relief Effort, a priestess of Chauntea was able to break through the now weakened and un-enforced drought curse. There is now no longer a drought!
- The City Relief Effort is now working diligently with farmers to help bring in as large a fall crop/harvest of vegetables such as: winter squashes, root vegetables, onions, garlic, snow peas and lettuce. Likewise they are keeping open communication and offering relief/supplies to farmers to be certain their families can survive winter.

300,000 gold has gone into this so far.
Dm Wretch wrote:A priest of Chauntea, welcomed by the Duke of Baldur's Gate came with a merry bunch of Chauntea and Silvanus worshipers. With the farmers and other residents of Baldurs Gate, as well as various adventurers from all sorts of backgrounds and fields, the priest lead and managed the High Harvest Festival, an event that comes during Harvest every year.

Because the recent Malarites plaguing the area had been defeated, all that remained was for a method of releasing the curse and drought that ravaged the land and prevented growth. The High Harvest Festival brought honor and courage from Chauntea down on the land. Four epic events, including an unforeseen fifth occurred. Four teams battled in the Harvest Brawl, took part in an archery competition, produced a magic talent show, and had an epic treasure hunt. In the end, with a prayer, the priest of Chauntea blessed the land and thanked all that helped try to restore and protect the farmers in their times of need.

Chauntea was pleased by their efforts, and caused a great storm to occur. Though the harvest was over, the dry drought season had now been completely removed and it rained freely as it used to in the Coast once more. The drought has ended, and a new time of prosperity and recovery can now happen for the now much more fortunate farmers and citizens of Baldur's Gate.

OOC: Where Do We go From Here?

At this point, there are still substantial funds remaining in the CRE. Some of that can be saved for the sea trade endeavor. Some will go into further assuring the farmers will be stocked for production come spring-time. James would propose that the remaining portion, about 400,000, go towards investing into failing markets, helping build up entrepreneurial efforts.

If your characters have suggestions, please post them. Thank you again for all your contributions both gold and roleplay-wise! It's been a lot of fun!

The City Relief Effort announces that it's remaining funds will go towards immediate relief needs.

200,000 will go towards bringing in food and medical stocks for those farmers who no longer have meager crops to subsist off of and the other 200,000 will go towards supplies to rebuild lost homes.

While inside Baldur's Gate, Pate stops inside the bank to make a deposit of 25,000 coins into the City Relief account. He requests that a note be made to the ledger citing that this donation was made on behalf of The Shelf of Many Books.

Pate makes his next stop at the Temple of Gond and leaves a note with the clergyman "Peter Pike" in hopes that it will make its way to the decision makers.:

Dear Gondar,

I write to you because I am sure you have noticed the destruction brought on to the farmlands and surrounding areas as a result of the black orc attacks. It is my hope that your church would be willing to assist in the repair efforts. Whether it be workers, engineers, new tools and machinery or even reliable contacts for building supplies; lumber, stone, and so on, any help at all is welcome. As an extension of the City Relief Effort we should be able to handle any issues of funding or compensation. I can often be found at the Friendly Arm Inn, but I also frequent Baldur's Gate. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Pate

Pate travels to The Gate and first stops at Temple of Gond and speaks with Peter Pike, asking him to speak with the rest of the clergy about the letter he left last time he was there. His next stop was The Merchant League where he left another note. Pate makes sure to stress he is leaving the letter on behalf of The City Relief Effort.

"Dear Elad,

I write to you on behalf of The City Relief Effort about the dismal conditions of the Farmlands. As you are well aware the damage from the recent black orc attacks has been drastic in the farmlands, the damage to homes extensive. It is my and the Relief Effort's wish that you could aid us in this matter. Assisting the farmers in this plight is of the utmost importance to us. Any help you can offer us would be greatly appreciated, but our primary concern is contacts from which tools and building supplies can be procured, possibly even contacts for contractors or guild workers to assist in the rebuilding. We are not lacking in fiscal resources and are prepared to compensate you for your efforts. If you have need to contact me I frequent both Baldur's Gate and The Friendly Arm Inn. Your time is greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks,
Pate"
