having lost many thousands of gold and items to seemingly thin air my point of view toward sleight of hand is pointedly negative.

To me it does not generate character interaction, and is purely used as a legit RP way to grief people.

The mechanic should be removed from the game.

Sleight of Hand feat doesn't allow for steal items from either PCs or NPCs.

if you are losing items that is a different bug all its own that happens at random

PP script only takes gold, been that way for years because people were complaining about losing nice hard to get items

so yea, your gold is probably going to a thief but the items really are going into thin air - take a screenie and ask a DM if it happens

As previously stated pick pocket does not remove items. If items are mysteriously vanishing from your inventory then it is due to a bug that randomly eats items. Screenshot your combat log when this happens and submit to the DM's and you might get the item back(I say might because I lost a wand this way and never heard back from them, I dont know if this was because it was a wand).

Regarding the new script, I have a question: I noticed that the pick pocket attempt shows up in the combat log of the person witnessing it. Does this also apply to the pick-pocketer? And by that I mean, does the pick-pocket see who saw the pick-pocket attempt in his or her combat log? Or in the combat logs of other players for that matter? If so, this could inadvertently give meta-knowledge of hiding players to everyone around and including the pick-pocket.

I took the liberty of asking a player who whose pick-pocket attempt was seen by mine from stealth, and I can confirm that my characters spotting of their attempt showed up in their combat log. Umm, yeah, not liking that too much. :|

I PP'd a bandit and my attempt was spotted (see above). I was given the name of whoever spotted me.

As an "also", players that are hidden have their attempts spotted (vs. sleight of hand but not vs hide from what I can tell) and on top of that, animals are PPable as well.

thats just... yea... :?

this needs to be changed back to the only person seeing the rolls being the thief using SoH

Said thief should be banned from the server.

Sorry, this is just a stupid ability to grief people. It does not promote RP.

What it should be is purely RP, you roll the skill the same as you do diplomacy, etc. Let the RP flow as it would normally.

Built in mechanics just to grief people are stupid and unfun.

I'm not sure I follow. Are you saying that a thief who took 30 gold (or the regular pittance) should be banned from the server if it was unbeknownst to you IC or OOC?

Another question, what is "promoting RP"? I don't want to assume defintions.

And investing tonnes of points into legitimate skills that do have RP value and getting no value from them is also stupid and not fun. Especially when most sneaks are grossly underpowered mechanically. Go roll one up sometime and dump your points into set traps or pickpocket and see for yourself. Until you do that, then your perspective on the matter has little legitimacy.

Agreed. I don't like this at all, but at least it's not as bad as I had anticipated. We did some more testing and found out the following:

- When pick-pocketing an NPC, the hidden players successful spot does NOT show up in the combat logs of anyone but the PP'er and the witness.

- Pick-pocketing another player with a hidden player nearby turned out to be inconclusive due to the attempt going undetected, but I'll assume it's the same as above.

- While doing an OOC pick pocketing test, remember to turn off your AFK signs...

*Edit - It should be noted that the PP'er did not have the necessary Spot/Listen to detect mine, so I see little reason for my spot attempt to show up in his combat log.

I would love to see and help with this script if possible.

yeah you can get money from animals (and they speak to you when you are caught). Also Summoned Animals as well.

I haven't use the skill against players and probably won't unless it is from a willing one to just do testing on.

Very strange bug makes things disappear it seems. Just standing next to Halbazzer when a stack of 6 teleport scrolls went poof and I hadn't even opened up the merchant yet. I thought it had to be a sleight of hand but after reading I guess it was just...really random.

yea random item loss is a different bug, screen shot it and get a hold of the DMs if its something you really needed and you can probably get it back
