I did this yesterday and was able to learn invisibility from a scroll scribed by the character before I RCR'd.

Update about Bigbies (and a few other hostile target only spells, eg. enervation, disintegrate, avasculate).
These spells require a hostile target in order to learn them. Use the Study Spell feat on the scroll, then cast the scroll at a hostile target. The archery target in front of the Fist barracks works fine, as does the target at the south side of Wyrm's Crossing, or just cast flesh to stone on a low level mob and then learn them all that way, or just set a friend to hostile and target them (in a discreet location, of course!)
Summon Creature spells still cannot be learnt.

Might be beneficial in the long run to create 'wizard schools' or training areas since IC'ly it would be a bad idea to go casting spells in front of FF NPC's...

I was scribing spells all day to my spellbook and those hostile spells all I did was cast them back on the scroll in my inventory and they worked fine. Summon Creature spells still cannot be learned.. is indeed still broken ... and that includes the undead ones as well.

I'm a little late to this RCR thread for wizzies. A few issues that have me scratching my head are:
(1) Can anyone lend some insight on usefulness for the new enchant/imbue spells? Are these actually implemented now? And would I need to take a feat like Craft Wondrous Armor (possibly along with a crafting skill) to actually use them?
(2) I thought I read something about being able to select your forbidden wizard school if you go specialized. But not seeing that option come up when I test making a new character. Was I just smoking something or this new to the game?
(3) Scribing scrolls sounds like a whole lot of work. At this point I pretty much know which spells I like to use, and could pretty much drop half of what I've learned and just charge ahead with the RCR. Is spell scribing really going to save me that much gold? My inventory is already pretty full, not sure I could even fit more than like 10-15 scrolls.
I honestly didn't mean for any of that to come off as whiny. Just looking for some helpful insight. Thanks.

I have learned summon creature IX form a spell of Summon creature IX, level 17. I must add, it was one with an icon. I tried it with summon greater undead, a scroll without icon, (looks like a blank scroll) and it failed.

- Not implemented. Apparently it's only in for testing or QC or something?
(2) I thought I read something about being able to select your forbidden wizard school if you go specialized. But not seeing that option come up when I test making a new character. Was I just smoking something or this new to the game?
- No clue, sorry! I only play Generalists. Tsidkenu? *looks at Tsid*

- For me, it's not even so much about the gold, as it is what spells might be very difficult to acquire later on. But if you know what spells you'll use, and you feel comfortable chucking out the rest, go for it.

1) Enchanting/Imbue spells are in as part of the base infrastructure for the coming Enchanting System. Rasael has assured us to pick them with confidence if your character will be an item enchanter because the enchanting system will get added at some point after QC refinements etc. The spells -do- require relevant enchanting feats to work (Craft Magical Arms & Armor or Craft Wondrous Item).
2) This option is available upon login, not from the character creation page. Create your character and log in to the game world. If you do not get the immediate Select Prohibited Spell School conversation popup you can open it manually by dragging the 'Select Prohibited Spell School' feat to a quickslot and activating it. Note that this new system does not prevent you from learning spells of your prohibited school but you will be prevented from casting them.
3) Some spells are simply unavailable from IG merchants and can only be found at random in loot or picked at level ups (mainly 7th, 8th & 9th level spells). Thus the easiest way to retain these spells when RCRing a wizard is to scribe scrolls of them and transfer them over when the character is remade. If you feel you don't need any of them, then you don't have to do this at all!

Thank you both for your very thorough responses. That clears it all up for me. Much appreciated!

I'm very late to this discussion however I am quite confused at why it takes two rolls to put a spell from scroll to my spellbook. (One to comprehend and one to scribe it.) The 3.5 SRD says it should only take one. It costs the scroll as well using the current system in place. This seems rather burdensome to me and an extra expense to an already expensive class to play. IF this is in the wrong conversation , please move it and excuse me, I'm still digging through everything here but this has been really costing me a LOT of gold in trying to increase my PCs' abilities and usefulness to themselves and others.
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicOverview ... Spells.htm
"Spells Copied from Another’s Spellbook or a Scroll
A wizard can also add a spell to her book whenever she encounters one on a magic scroll or in another wizard’s spellbook. No matter what the spell’s source, the wizard must first decipher the magical writing (see Arcane Magical Writings, above). Next, she must spend a day studying the spell. At the end of the day,
she must make a Spellcraft check (DC 15 + spell’s level). A wizard who has specialized in a school of spells gains a +2 bonus on the Spellcraft check if the new spell is from her specialty school. She cannot, however, learn any spells from her prohibited schools.
If the check succeeds, the wizard understands the spell and can copy it into her spellbook (see Writing a New Spell into a Spellbook, below).
The process leaves a spellbook that was copied from unharmed, but a spell successfully copied from a magic scroll disappears from the parchment.
If the check fails, the wizard cannot understand or copy the spell. She cannot attempt to learn or copy that spell again until she gains another rank in Spellcraft.
A spell that was being copied from a scroll does not vanish from the scroll.
In most cases, wizards charge a fee for the privilege of copying spells from their spellbooks. This fee is usually equal to the spell’s level × 50 gp.
......
Writing a New Spell into a Spellbook
Once a wizard understands a new spell, she can record it into her spellbook."

I believe the
DC 20 Spellcraft check is to decipher a written spell without using the Read Magic cantrip (not on the server).
The second DC 15 Spellcraft check is to successfully copy that spell to your spellbook.
Since we don't have the Read Magic spell, I can wholly agree with calls for the first DC 20 check to be abolished.

I agree with the removal of the first check.
Something I haven't figured out yet though.. how do you copy a spell from another wizard's spell book?

You can't. That's a PnP thing where spellbooks are tangible items you can lend to an apprentice or whatever.
On BGTSCC everything is in scroll form, or chosen on level up! If some way to trade spells directly between spellbooks could be invented, that would be truly epic!

Summoning Spells can be properly added to a wizard's spellbook now!
Virtually all of the intended features of the new spell system should be working correctly.

Yup. I went and learned about 40 spells last night from scrolls ranging levels 1-9. Bigbys, Gate, even invisibility all worked for me.
Great job team!
