What did you think of the tablet?

It definitely took some getting used to, given I was moving from a regular pen tablet to a pen display. The first couple of days were very much "ahhh, it's going back!" but I pushed through, and figured out some of the quirks. Parallax is a definite problem, but unless I have a few grand lying around for the newest Wacom Cintiq (that say they have no parallax), it's just something that comes with pen displays. It only took a little bit of time before I was looking at the cursor again, instead of the pen tip. Speaking of the pen- holy crap the Huion's pen they send with this particular display feels fantastic. The design is very similar to a calligraphy pen, and if you're accustomed to working with any traditional media at all, it feels much, much more natural in hand than the Wacom's pen does. Of course at the moment my pens have an issue where I can't figure out how to get the buttons to work- or they just don't. I'm currently talking to their customer support (which has been very responsive) to figure out if the pens are faulty or I'm stupid. The real drawback to the pens is they need to be charged- which at the moment the charge on these things has lasted forever (and they send you two pens), but I have heard stories about people's pens refusing to hold a charge and that makes me a little nervous- but not overly, given how customer support has been, and I have a full year manufacturer warranty as well as a 3 year extended one.

The tablet itself is also pretty damn slick. This one (GT-156HD v2) is designed to be their "portable" one, so it's a lightweight build, very streamlined, and yes- very portable, given it's about the size of my laptop. All I wish is they sent a padded sleeve or something, otherwise this can slide right into my backpack with no issues. It has a nice little stand, and I have also test drove this thing in my lap on the couch.

Color takes some tweaking, and it's not going to have the same level of intensity that you get from a monitor with a high polished high def screen because of the anti-glare glass on it, but when you're working that anti-glare glass gives a nice "tooth", and I find the color more than rich enough (esp. when I'm painting in the middle of the night). It's got a native resolution of 1920x1080, so it's still plenty high def.

End result? I'm resistant to change, and also had to have a day or two of buyer's guilt. Now that I've gone through and done a painting on it from start to finish, I really do like it- even if the guilt still sort of tugs at me from time to time. The ability to draw right on the screen? Once I got used to it, I really, really dig it, and feel a lot more connected to what I'm drawing.

....Now I just need to save up for the 22" >.>
