Playing scrubs is kinda subjective a level 1 char is of course weaker than a level 30 but he is still exceptional compared to the common people and still show his skill in tasks appropriate to his level. So I don't see why you wouldn't just RP while leveling naturally evolving your char.Invoker wrote:On one hand, certain classes and abilities conceivably need a lifetime to be mastered. Someone creating a lvl 1 fighter and RPing accordingly, and then being lvl 30 3-4 months down the line with, say, WM levels, suddenly having become "a true master of the art" in 25 mins is unappealing to some people.
On the other, some players don't want to play scrubs. If you want to play an exceptional individual, a character with rare gifts and very high skill level, you need two things: your character sheet reflecting that (as per server rules) and mastery over the environment (the ability to go everywhere/in as many places as possible safely, barred metagaming NPCs).
I found those to be two of the main reasons people grind first, and increase RP intensity as they reach the "comfort zone" that fits the RP they have in mind for their character.
And they're VERY valid reasons.
Playing by the sheet would for me still mean if I play for instance a Rogue with points spent on open lock and disable trap even though only at 4 on first level my character could say about himself that he is capable of doing these things even exceptionally well cause he is better at them then a commoner or somebody that hasn't invested in these skills. While of course a level 30 character with 4 points in that skill should not play the expert as he obviously has little knowledge of these things in comparison and won't further develop them.
I know not everyone will agree with this view but yea is mine
