dedude wrote:NH does work with unarmed, but I would not recommend it. A big deficiency with NH that is rarely mentioned is that it doesn't calculate crit damage correctly. I tried it with a monk build and my crits would often deal less damage than normal hits, skewing the average damage in favor of disabling it completely. Especially considering the hit you take to AC and AB. As a fist-fighting monk I would spend my precious feats elsewhere.
Is there any ETA on the crit fix for northlander hewing?Rasael wrote:When I made this feat I only tested it with barbians and a number of fighter combinations, with melee weaponry.
Its cool to see how its used in numerous out-of-the-box combinations. But its sort of a hack, so I I'm not surprised if its not working right for unarmed attacks. I don't think that can be fixed either (but feel free to take a stab, dedude).

Re: Northlander Hewing questions
Hi guys ^_^
I've been using this feat for almost a week with a Scythe and an Ironstaff.
Unfortunately it never maximizes the crit damage on both weapons (actually it seems fixed at a value lower than the average) and it doesn't even multiplies the damage bonus granted by the NH feat as it should be like any other fixed damage as IPA, enhancement bonus and similar.
It would be great to see at least one of the two issues fixed
Thanks for your attention on this matter

It would actually need a nerf if it was possible to fix.Valefort wrote:Sorry, none can be fixed.

NH is one of those feats that look better on paper than it actually is. In 9/10 cases power attack is the better choice of feat, especially if two-handing your weapon.

Re: Northlander Hewing questions
I've been using NH with my STR Spirit Shaman. On average, having it active eeks out 4–5 points more dmg per hit, unless my deactivated APRs get a lucky hit on the otherwise sacrificed attacks. This is with 1-handed use. So yeah, like dedude said, I agree that it benefits a1-hander okay. But I would add only take it if you are going to end up with 6+ APR.dedude wrote:NH is one of those feats that look better on paper than it actually is. Re: Northlander Hewing questions
Just looking for some clarification :
A character with 26 BAB will have 4 attacks per round, correct? What if he has Whirlwind Frenzy or Haste active? Will he get the additional attack?
NH can be used together with a Combat MODE (Power Attack, Combat Expertise) but not alongside another custom combat style, like One Weapon, for instance?
The critical damage is not maximized "correctly" as per Valefort's statement in wikia?
And final, what are your thoughts about the feat? Worth it?

Re: Northlander Hewing questions
At 26 BAB, normally, your 2 lowest attacks are at +6 & +1 BAB. These would likely miss any. So, yes, having a greater damage for 4 attacks (which are more likely to hit) is better than flat-out missing 2 attacks most of the time.AlfarinIcebreaker wrote:And final, what are your thoughts about the feat? Re: Northlander Hewing questions
All attacks are counted, twf, flurry, haste, frenzy.
Then 1/3 of the total attacks, rounded up, is substracted from the main hand attack schedule. NH can work with any mode : PA, CE, flurry but not with other combat styles. Critical damage is not computed correctly and cannot be fixed.
The feat is interesting in some places and for some builds to overcome damage reduction but outside of those situations the feat can lower you damage output unless your AB is terribly low, monster's ac is low (practically always under 40 ac, even the balor has only 45 ac) so even the last attacks in the schedule have a good chance to land.
