I'm not confused, if you remove a possibility then the odds of the other possibilities go up. Also in your first post you ask to remove them, not setting them to 1gp (damn, look at the title too), which would be a fine suggestion if it wasn't such an hassle to do. Leave the trash where you find it if it bothers you to pick it up.

Not if you replace them with other stuff or increase its value to 1gp. Ideas can advance and change as the discussion continues as has been reflected in my prior posts. You know if this topic bothers you so much just don't reply (damn, look at the logic).

I believe this has been stated before, but coming from a guy who has spent a couple of years arguing for a revamp of the loot tables it's not so easy. They have been updated somewhat and they do drop better loot than in years past, but it is NOT an easy task from what mreider79, dedude, AoS, Endelyon, Valefort, and several others have told me in the past. So "just removing trash and replacing them with other things" is far more complicated than that statement makes it sound.

Unless I'm mistaken, if you don't empty the container that you find and someone else comes along, don't they open it to get your loot, in this case, your 0-1 gp garbage.

You're just passing the junk to someone else if you leave it, no? I pick my junk up, even if it's junk, and I've been fairly consistent about putting it into a fire, but at the same time, junk does get annoying if that is the majority item you find. That, or other low-quality items that aren't worth anywhere near what you spend in supplies.

Chests and corpses now erase loot left in them after some amount of time (credit dedude, I think), so leaving junk in a loot container will not result in said container having pages of trash, since it empties out every so often. If it didn't I imagine you would open up loot containers to find mountains of garbage by half way through a server reset.

Thank you for the lesson on ideas and discussions, I needed it badly. Perhaps you should read the topic in its entirety to understand the context of my answer more clearly (since you know ideas advance and change as the discussion continue as has been reflected in prior posts, instead of simply yours).

Did you try reading my post before answering ? Specifically, which part of "which would be a fine suggestion if it wasn't such an hassle to do" do you not understand ? Your suggestion was understood, is sensible, but rejected because it's long (at least as far as I'm concerned).

If you want the long explanation I would have to look up each item that can be generated as trash, make a copy of it, increase its value to 1gp then change the scripts to generate those new items instead of the old ones. That's a lot of time for something that isn't necessary in the slightest in the first place.

I think the long and the short of it is:
  • Adjusting the loot tables will take a lot of work.
  • If you're volunteering to put in the work, and are pretty handy with code, please throw us an application!
  • Otherwise, the devs may get to it at a later date once higher priority projects have been taken care of. As it stands, the system doesn't actively hurt anyone. It disappoints treasure hunters, to be sure, but it doesn't break the game.

I'm not a scripter, but I might be able to get my hands on a custom treasure system that is vastly superior to our own (in my opinion). well, lemme check to see if he still has it before I describe it.

We honestly should put a stop to some of the custom systems coming in authored from the outside, as we're left with refactoring a mess that didn't work well in our own mess. (appearance changer, etc).

More often than not the talent is fine in it's implementation, the hiccup usually stands where the staff agrees on how it's done.

I feel like the dude in question implemented some pretty advanced systems over the course of about a year.

Custom treasure system that worked very well. An NPc based enchanting system, which basically amounted to stripping magic off one item to place on another item. Interesting territorial control system for warring kingdoms to conquer their neighbors. A tricky faction/reputation system so that npc's of allied kingdoms fought for you, while npc's of enemy kingdoms fought against you. Etc etc.

I'm not saying he's better than the folks here. I'm saying that he's WAAAY better than the folks here. just kidding, I know squat about scripting, so maybe all that stuff is pretty easy to do.

Today, for the first time ever, I killed Chaos in the Haunted House. No joke. The last time I tried to kill Chaos was in 2014/15 with my Gray Orc Krasc—he was murderized so quick, I never tried again.

Here is what I gained:

Chaos' loot shot #1

Chaos' loot shot #2

Chest #1

Chest #2

The chest that spawned a Flaming Greater Skull, contained 121 gp. :|

I hate you all. And, this is why I never go looting, because looting is a frickin' waste of a Real Life. Hear that Devs!!! A FRICKIN' WASTE OF A REAL LIFE!!! How the hellz do you think someone is going to be able to buy diddly squat from an Epic Merchant, if this is what you gain from those "gainful" loot runs.

Gimme some real risk v. reward. I dare you.

Seems pretty typical of my experience.

I'm sure statistics and probabilities say otherwise, but that there is standard, common results of looting.

Yup. Ditto for me. Of course, then I find myself a +4 Spot/+4 Listen belt in the Minotaur caves. That was my epic find for this year. Last year skipped me by. Two years ago, I got a +4 deflection, +4 reflex helmet from the gnolls. The past two years before that skipped my by. Five years ago, I found a +4 deflection, +3 AB, +2 sonic damage pair of gloves in the orc caves.

Loot your CR, for sure. Best chance of loot, for sure. Definitely believable. I'll stick to finding my (once per few years) epic loot from the CR 15 and below areas, all I get are ammo and +1-+2/equivalent weapons from the higher level areas and bosses.
