I usually feel this way when I see every character. ;)

I've been told I have two main characters.

Nëa has most interaction with Jassin and I think currently it's something like this: :) :(

Laitae's reaction is this, I think: :?: :!:
Laitae Lafreth, became Chosen of Mystra, former Great Reader of Candlekeep
Nëa the Little Shadow
Uranhed Jandinwed, Guide of Candlekeep

Hi Elly!

I feel bad for not writing this earlier. I obviously enjoy the character you have made and I suspect from the way you make her behave that she has wisdom as her dump stat? She seems to lack deep perception and has the tendency to make the occasional social faux pas which is what makes her so unpredictable in her responses. I like it!

One constructive criticism I might make is in regard to her worship of Eldath. She comes across as a bit too eager for (defensive) violence at times. Or perhaps that is just my lack of understanding of Eldath's faith. *shrug* Anyway, perhaps you could do a little bit here to reinforce this aspect of her character, if indeed it is actually something which should be significantly noticeable. Of course this may just be another faux pas of hers!

Looking forward to our next encounter!

Her base stats are 10 strength, 12 dex, 10 con, 10 wisdom, 14 int and 28 charisma (I think). So wisdom is not a "complete" dump stat but she I do try to portray her as pretty naive, and lacking in deeper perception/perception of the world. However as to the other part, considering her skill in diplomacy, if Elly is making a social faux pas, she usually is WELL aware that she is, and is doing it on purpose (either to elicit some reaction, or just because she has a tendency to be petulant from time to time).

The disparity between her actions and Eldath's dogma is quite recent, actually, and something I've been trying to drop a lot of RP hints about in the hopes that people will notice. I'd elaborate but I feel that it's more of an RPAFO (RP and find out) situation. 8-)

Thanks for the input! <3 It's reassuring to hear that some of the things I've been trying to get across to people who RP with her are actually making it across! I can't help but wonder what people think, and except for the IRCers, I rarely chat with people OOC.

If you truly want brutal honesty: I think you may have let Endelyon get slightly too corrupted due to OOC relations. This may just be from my perspective and entirely false, mind you! I think you know what I mean, though, so feel free to correct that if I'm way off. And I think this is related to your Eldath-disparity.

I think you have improved vastly in RP in general over the last year, though.

Well, in the spirit of being frank and honest when it comes to OOC discussions (which is very important in my eyes!), I'd say it's definitely possible you might be correct, but it's a bit hard for me to try to judge objectively. I mean, I want to say it's not true, but I realize that most people tend to think they're not wrong even when they are!

I will say that there I haven't felt like I actively compromised anything about her as a character in any of her decisions and I do feel her decisions have ALWAYS been a result/outcome of completely IC circumstances, but whether or not those circumstances were subconsciously motivated to happen by mine or her OOC feelings is your guess as much as mine. I'm not a psychologist or something. :D

Either way, I'm glad for the input! I was somewhat afraid that no one would bother to criticize/critique me at all, and if I just wanted to hear the good and not the bad, I would have never posted here in the first place.

That's not true. I doubt you can bring up one instance of corruption. In regard to Endelyon's RP, I've always enjoyed it. One of the few characters my toon wouldn't betray.

Although some people have felt your character has been corrupted, I would use a different "c word" for it, myself. I feel like your character has been changed.

You came to the table with a solid concept, but circumstance, friendship, opportunity, and numerous other characters helped to evolve that concept away from what you at first thought you would be playing. And the character grew. Probably in a direction even you were not expecting.

And that's the beauty of roleplaying. Unlike writing, or gaming more generally, the character you draft is subject to enormous unpredictability. And those chaotic forces -- DMs, other characters, the world itself as you explore it -- shape the character in a way that makes them into who they end up becoming. I've discovered that with every one of my characters.

But beyond simply being a malleable character, I feel Endelyon has been a great character as well.

I sometimes measure characters (in fiction, film, and roleplay) by what I call the KKA Principle. Most characters are background characters in whatever story I'm currently reading or writing. They amuse, they educate, they sadden, they may even develop plot in a powerful way. But they then fade back into the background.

A KKA character is a character who inspires the desire to Kill, Kiss, or Aid. That is, they hit on critical human emotions -- hate, lust, and love. The primal drivers of the social interactions that most of us would consider "meaningful." If you think of your favorite characters from fictions, they're probably your favorite characters because you love to hate them, you simply love them, or you want to love them.

Endelyon's successful, to me, because I feel she's inspired not just one of those feelings, but all three, in my character, at varying points in her development. (That's the brutal part, by the way -- the part where I admit that Llywelyn came very, very close to killing her at one point, no rez).

I have a feeling this character will be one of your most memorable as well, regardless of who you create in the future. Because I have a feeling she's been meaningful to you as well. :P Actually, just speaking generally here, if you play a character for more than a year, the character probably means something to you.

Which is a small point, but an important one. A lot of people on this server have long-term characters that represent significant investments not just in a build or in gear and gold accumulation, but in story and character development. They don't get bored with the characters because they keep growing them -- even after they hit level 30. And I think anyone who does that deserves a hand. Because in order to do that, without getting bored? You have to actively contribute to the communal storytelling in a meaningful way.

And the fact that so many people do it just goes to show you what a great roleplaying environment we have here on BG!
