The White Mask Theater & Performers Guild - RP Thread

Aleric makes frequent trips between Beregost and Baldur's Gate. While at the Gate he continues making inquiries among the citizens and guards of the Palace district, looking for any sign of suspicious behavior.

He also patrols the grounds of the White Mask with an eye open for any further trouble and to manage the flow of people and goods into the building site. Anyone unfamiliar to himself, Selis, or the other theater workers who approach are questioned and their goods inspected before being allowed to proceed.

At times he can be seen inspecting the floors, tapping here and there with his boot as if he is searching for something...

When work ceases for the day, he arranges for security at night and makes his way back down to Beregost, drumming his fingers impatiently on the plain hilt of the sword at his belt.

Aside from a brief and teary attendance at the wedding of Saint Merielle Williams and Tessian Silene, Selis rarely leaves the theater. Quiet word spreads that she and Sir Jonas Rokranon have ended their on-again, off-again relationship and parted ways - for good - as polite friends, although Selis does not say much on the matter.

She works alongside her trusted guardsman, Mehtar (( Aleric )) to ensure that all the materials that arrive to the Palace District are sorted and stored in their proper locations. White marble slabs arrive in sections, and it takes an entire team of men to move them into the theater and arrange them to Selis' instructions.

As the days pass, a good majority of the theater's interior is completely rebuilt. A basement access door that had previously been blocked is uncovered, and the costume attic has an addition built. Walls are rebuilt, and fancy reinforced doors arrive on pallets.

Those in the know say that whatever the musician has planned, the theater will truly be fit to be in the Palace District when she is done with it.

Arriving back to Baldur's Gate from the Bard College in Arable a few days after the firey blaze at the White Mask. . .Glyd'yah's eyes wet and she slowly shakes her head in disblelief. Assuming it could only be arson...*looks to one of the Fist Gaurd that is patroling the scene and asks, "Did you catch the bastard that did this!?". . .The Fist Gaurd turns to Glyd'yah and reports. . "We have no suspects at this time miss."

Glyd'yah nods with a bit of twisted disgust that not one lead can be offered for such a malitious crime. Walking through the cleared out debree and sorting out the salvage. . .She sees edges of where the fire was halted and smiles. She takes out a piece of white chaulk and draws a bordering line set off by musical notations. The notes form a lovely melody that when fully read portray an uplifting chant of Renewal inspired by the tenants of Finder Wyvernspur.

A note is posted at the Theater:

Hello,

I am a private investigator who has taken up the arson case of the White Mask Theater as a matter of public interest. I am asking for any witnesses or individuals with information to please leave a sealed message with Lady Alyth at the Elfsong Tavern addressed to "C, of N."
For any who wish to discuss the matter in person, include in your message a meeting place and time of your choice.
As long as the culprits are at large, the Theater remains in danger. Please do not let your reconstruction efforts go to waste. Contact me.

Aside from a few char marks scattered throughout the structure, the majority of the theater has been cleared of its rubble and work has started in earnest rebuilding the interior. The workers Selis hired follow her instructions for the most part, but a few grumble about her "perfectionism" when she orders bricks to be relaid so that their edges are aligned just the right way.

Elegant materials and lavish items (including several large porcelain tubs) continue to arrive in the Palace District, and although the young woman supervises and helps arrange the décor, she does not spend quite as much time at the construction site as she did after the theater burned. Word even spreads that she performed at the merchant camp for a crowd of people who heaped praises upon her following the show.

Still, when the workers clear the previously blocked basement access door, she is there alongside them to ensure that nothing unexpected emerges from the underbelly of the theater.

[Charraj]

A black-clad man can be seen at the theater from time to time, examining the char marks and talking to random individuals on the site. He introduces himself as Charraj to those with whom he speaks.
Charraj learns about Selis' presence at the Theater when the workers cleared the basement access door, and about how cautious she seemed as the work was being done. He notes it in his journal.

A message addressed to Selis is left at the Theater:

We have to talk.

The young woman's forehead furrows as she reads the terse note left for her. She informs the foreman that she will be elsewhere in the city for the afternoon, but if anyone comes looking for her to say that she will return in a few hours.

In other news, word begins to spread that the entire Performers Guild will be hosting an encore presentation of their successful Masquerade as soon as the theater is finished.

Selis spends most of the endweek working on the theater's interior. The place is slowly but surely starting to resemble an inhabitable building.

When a worker rushes up to her near dusk and asks her if she needs to stop and get ready for Duke Eltan's dinner, the young woman's usually elegant posture slumps. "No," she quietly replies, "I was not invited".

"But the who's-who of the area -"

The man's words are interrupted by a sharp look from Selis, who then disappears into the back of the theater for the rest of the evening and buries herself in her work. By the time she collapses on a pallet of mattresses that were delivered earlier in the day, a good majority of the new kitchen and lounge has been painted.

[Flights of Fantasy]

After seeing Selis collapse onto the mattresses, Solus retrieves a blanket and covers her with it. The concern is obvious on his face as he watches her sleep for a moment. He then moves over to the opposing wall and sits down with his back to it. His newly acquired staff with the gaping maw of a dragon at its head is laid across his lap and his silver keep dutiful watch over her as she sleeps.

Aleric continues patrolling the theater, watchful for disturbances and anything else out of the ordinary as he makes his rounds. Those who frequent the theater notice that his own sword, Sunngifu, is back at his hip, and that he seems increasingly impatient.

At times during the day he heads down to the basement and moves among the workmen, cutting off the complaints of the foremen and supervisors with warning glares. He carefully ensures the gate closing off access to the sewers is secure, and carefully studies the walls, particularly the section where the walls bow outwards rather than meeting in a corner. He does not touch the stone, but sweeps his gaze along it.

I write to you regarding your letter to our organisation. I have put together a consortium of interest persons who wish to sponsor your rebuilding efforts on the proviso they be permitted to form a "Governming board" in equal partnership with yourself.

Lady Shartess will be writing to you of her own initiative on this matter I am sure. But if you should wish to visit her I am told she has lodgings in the Helm and Cloak.

When she receives the Iron Throne's reply, Selis releases a heavy sigh and mutters to herself before reaching for her quill and a piece of parchment. A follow-up letter is soon written.

Respected Scribe Scrivold,

While I thank you for the offer of assistance, the rebuilding efforts are almost finished. Materials were purchased and workers were paid using my personal funds and resources, and as such I am not interested in any joint ownership propositions.

I simply desire a copy of the original blueprints so that I may have them on file to note the changes that were made to my theater. I would also like a copy of the original deed so that the renovations can be notated upon it as well. If these items are unavailable, then I will inform the Ducal Palace of the changes without them.

It has come our attention that the documents you requested are currently unavailable owing to accidental fire damage to a portion of our docks storehouse by parties unknown.

We have been in talks with the Seven Suns and Merchants League over proprietary issues and land-ownership. We can come to no other conclusion that to suggest you write to the grand dukes to formaly pettition them for a new deed.

We regret any inconvenience this may cause, and once again, invite you to enter into formal agreement with us. We feel certain this may lighten any potential workload.

Once again, Lady Shartess and her backers wish to entend their most heartfelt sympathies for your troubling situation.
