Paul is a cool guy and has written some great FR books. If you play a character who worships the darker dieties, Cale has some interesting insights into Mask.

Here are the Cale books:

Sembia: Gateway to the Realms
1."Shadow's Witness" (Paul S. Kemp, April 2007, 978-0-7869-4244-2)

The Erevis Cale Trilogy
1.Twilight Falling (Paul S. Kemp, July 2003, 0-7869-2998-7)
2.Dawn of Night (Paul S. Kemp, June 2004, 0-7869-3225-2)
3.Midnight's Mask (Paul S. Kemp, November 2005, 0-7869-3643-6)

The Twilight War
1.Shadowbred (Paul S. Kemp, November 2006, 0-7869-4077-8)
2.Shadowstorm (Paul S. Kemp, September 2007, 978-0-7869-4304-3)
3.Shadowrealm (Paul S. Kemp, December 2008, 978-0-7869-4863-5)

I am sure this is something we can ask DM Xzar if we could incorporate it into our Lore.

Ok who was the idiot that decided to bring over the Circle of Eights custom spells over to Toril?

Also This below
A small, stocky dwarflike creature in studded leather armor titters and mumbles to himself. His skin is a pale blue-white color, and his bulbous white eyes have no irises or pupils. His hair is coarse and white, and a long mustache droops past his chin.
If Derro are listed as a Realms Race it speaks of them in the past tense did they come from? I thought they were native to Oerth then spread out.

For those of you looking for Circle of Eights custom spells check out this link:

http://www.extremespells.com/US.html

I'm not advertising for them, it is just for information only :D

The derro first appeared in the first edition in the adventure module The Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth (1982), and was reprinted in the original Monster Manual II (1983). Ya, the only references outside of the Monster Manual 3.5 I can find for Derro are all in the past tense, and they don't appear at all in Monster Manual 2.0, 3.0 or 4.0. In the Forgotten Realms campaign setting, derro are the Delzoun, a dwarven clan who were the result of genetic breeding performed by mind flayers, and there are Greyhawk Derro as well so there may be some confusion as to origins if we are crossing worlds.
There are a couple of references to this book, but I haven't read it: Tim Pratt (March 2012). Venom in Her Veins Kindle Edition, p. Kindle 2983. Wizards of the Coast. ISBN 0786959843.

Arkanis what is this crap your posting I was talking about
The Circle of Eight (formed from the earlier Citadel of Eight) is a fictional group of wizards in the World of Greyhawk campaign setting for the Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying game. The Circle was originally created by Gary Gygax around 1975 as an alliance of most of his Dungeons & Dragons characters. In 1992, the concept of the Circle was redeveloped by TSR as a powerful cabal of wizards as part of a new storyline for the World of Greyhawk campaign. This new Circle of Eight is based in the Flanaess, the easternmost portion of Oerik, and its chief purpose seems to be the preservation of the balance of power between the forces of Good, Evil, Law, and Chaos in the Flanaess, ensuring that one does not dominate the other for an extended period of time. To this end, the Circle often works behind the scenes, especially when aiding the cause of evil.
The Circle was founded in 571 CY by Mordenkainen Among the group's members were
Bigby
Bucknard,
Drawmij,
Leomund,
Nystul,
Otto
Rary
Tenser.
Otiluke
Jallarzi Sallivarian became the first woman to join the Circle of Eight but you see no famous spells named after her

what I want to know is how the spells from all these famous mages of Oerth came to the forgotten realms?

I do remember reading an article perhaps by Greenwood that had mages from different spheres gathered together to discuss matter but I wasn't sure if this was canon or not or just stuff to fill the pages of dragon magazine. The Mages who gather to talk were Dalamar, Elminster and Mordenkainen is it safe to assume Elminster is the one who brought these spells on this sphere or did someone else bring them here.

Q: If you had to remove a rule/Modify a rule, what would it be ?

Q: If you had to create a new rule, what would it be ?

Q: What is your favorite class in PnP, and is it your favorite class on this server (if it is not on this server, what would be closest, and is it still your favorite) and if it is not your favorite on this server, why not.

Q: What class, in your personal opinion, as a member of this community - not meaning the DM team specifically/Staff etc.. is over played, too numerous in quantity on the server, and which class is not around enough?

Q: Is it more important to have fun, even if it disregards small lore/rules/guidelines and continue with a concept/idea, in your personal opinion, OR would it be better to server ruling/guidelines/lore at the expense of immersion/fun/replayability ?

Q: On this latter note, do you its best to approach CvC situations with extreme attention to the guidelines as set in stone rules, or best setup by case by case making more sense in realism /lore/plot i.e spur of the moment creativity ?

(Guess this might be like some personality test haha, are you extroverted or introverted, dominant or submissive, are you concrete or abstract... etc..)

*scratches beard* OK Nil, I was caught up in a previous post and thought that is what you were referencing about IRL stuff. I emailed Ed Greenwood and asked him if he could shed some light on it for us. I missed him at OSRCOM in Toronto, Canada this year because I was on holiday with my family. I am looking forward to a colourful reply :) that answers your question.

I think that a lot of the DnD universe was all Greyhawk until FR, Ravenloft, etc. started to show up and most of the spells were just included in the sourcebooks because they were non-world specific. That said, I know that we have a lot of spells that reference Circle of Eight members - let's hope the Master Himself can clarify for us.

Coming up with one specific rule would be tough - rules around class/character restrictions exist to prevent power-building, but even in an ultra-high fantasy setting you can still out power the uber powered as a DM if you want to. The question about rules comes down to why we need them. IF everyone can play nicely together, they become unnecessary. Add more rules and you add having to know them, apply and enforce them, and basically become a slave to your source materials. A good DM can sometimes take the sourcebook and scratch the rule out and say, "Ya, no, we're doing this because I said so..."

Q: If you had to create a new rule, what would it be ?

Less rules! The more rules there are the more decision making is taken away from the DM. If your DM understands: a) players want to have their imaginations engaged, b) they want challenges that they can survive, albeit by the skin of their teeth somtimes, c) that they want loot that compliments their characters, and d) XP rules the day, and the players allow the DM to weave the tale and take them through it, then we don't need as many rules.

Q: What is your favorite class in PnP, and is it your favorite class on this server (if it is not on this server, what would be closest, and is it still your favorite) and if it is not your favorite on this server, why not.

Gotta be honest I play tanks mostly. Big, dumb fighter types who are vulnerable to mind magic, but who do 150+pt crits at epic levels with their great axe or war mace. Pure fighter, with maybe WM levels for finesse, or Dwarven Defender if playing a Dwarf, but all fighting, all the time, leading the charge.

Q: What class, in your personal opinion, as a member of this community - not meaning the DM team specifically/Staff etc.. is over played, too numerous in quantity on the server, and which class is not around enough?

By far and away the server has more Elves than any other race. Elves lead themselves to magic, rangers, or other spellcasters mostly. I think that an elf played properly is probably one of the best RP character types there is, and I have seen a lot of really excellent RP where characters play their RACE as much as their CLASS. Remember, a Bard or a Monk at 30th level, shoot a 30th lv pure Druid, kills a lot of fighters with a flick of the wrist. Elves are geared for this, but hard to get there - they need their tank to help them out ;)

Q: Is it more important to have fun, even if it disregards small lore/rules/guidelines and continue with a concept/idea, in your personal opinion, OR would it be better to server ruling/guidelines/lore at the expense of immersion/fun/replayability ?

Having fun is a tenet of mine when role playing, I mean, why else play if it is not fun? Certain rules can be over-looked to add to the ambiance of the game, but not when it comes to lore or interferes with other players' ability to have fun. Certain lore rules should not be tampered with, and Dms know that the more they deviate from set rules/guidelines the more likely they are going to be called on it. I have a saying at work, if you don't follow the rules you will get in trouble, if you do follow the rules you will get in trouble... lol! Point being we have rules for a reason, and there had better be great reasons to break them.

Q: On this latter note, do you its best to approach CvC situations with extreme attention to the guidelines as set in stone rules, or best setup by case by case making more sense in realism /lore/plot i.e spur of the moment creativity ?

Tough one to answer - every player vs player situation has some element to it that makes it different from another. We are real people role-playing fictional characters and sometimes RL personalities overcome our game ones and we get backed into a logical (or real!) corner and make decisions based on our personalities rather than our characters. Happens to all of us now and then. I appreaciate a player, within the PvP rules, messing with another player or party because they have the intellect to do it. What isnt cool is a player in this situation who doesnt realize when they should back off and leave the player/party alone. PvP rules about griefing or metagaming are paramount when making sure that a powerful character doesnt grief a weaker one. Rules, on the other hand, shouldnt be used because a character in a balanced PvP lost the fight and doesnt like it either... sometimes you just get yer butt handed to you and that is the way that it is. There is a reason the DM team asks for screenshots when there are differences of opinion in PvP - we need to look at everything before making decisions.

Why does the server severely lack elven clerics? Compared to the amount of elves, we have very few clerics. I can count two active ones and that's it >.>.

Good question. IMHO clerics, like all spell casters are vulnerable at lower levels. Let's face it, they aren't great fighters, they dont have great gear, and their spells are limited - going into a fight you don't send your surgeon or your chaplain to the front too so they hang back. Clerics act primarily as auxilliary characters, especially at lower levels, and I think people just dont want to take forever to level up a cleric toon, or have to rely on being partied up to survive encounters and get XP. I have a cleric character who is 7th level. If I am in game with him and in a party, things are great. On my own, I have to run quests and grind areas where the XP is low. Now, this may be simpy because I don't know how to play a cleric properly too - don't get me wrong, but let's face it, it isn't a whole pile of fun getting smoked by bandits on your way to FAI because your AC is 17 and you have low HP... Clerics in the UD have similar, if not more compounded problems because of the ECL and sheer difficulty of some of the monsters...
