BG is not the place for an arena. There are too many Races and players not allowed there. No this arena needs to be in a NEUTRAL area where all can go ICly and OOCly. I think that is being missed here. On top of the fact that a place like that would allow some pretty wicked magic but BG laws......See my point yet? If not oh wellz. I can not MAKE you see it my way! :P

Unless someone hosts a server for the JEGs module, no. Added to that, JEGs has bugs of its own (last I checked) and its really a perfect test.

I like the idea.

RPers won't have to deal with PvP trolls because they will be busy trolling each other.
PvP players will have a place to test builds and get that out of their system.

I see no reason why the area has to be OOC either. Simply set the area up through RP as a war-zone, with competing factions fighting for dominance. In that case, no one is behaving OOCly. Area designers could even design a really neat level with intrigue, areas of strength and weakness, cover and open ground.......

If done well, it will be a boon, if done poorly, it will be a bust but that goes for anything.
I support it and hope the developers and DMs place the right level design and RP into it.

It's been updated and should be a mirror in almost every case. The equipment offered is op, but if you only but stuff that's similar to what you can get in game it's a good indicator as to what you can achieve.

For many of the reasons above previously pointed out. I think it's a bad idea. Namely two reasons as follows:

#1. As steve pointed out in another thread, forcing RP and interaction is against BGTSCC. At times when certain people keep insisting or forcing the issue when another doesn't want to it quickly turns into harassment. All one has to do is send a tell "Heya! Do you want to RP this or that with us?". In fact, a lot of 'problems' and hurt feelings could be alleviated by a friendly tell or two. An area created as suggested would give players the wrong impression, undermining server policy, and give DM headaches answering questions in that regard.

#2 As AoS and others pointed out the Arena is mostly unused which is suitable for this. There is no reason to spend time coding another Arena at this time.

#3. If people are bored and want competitive PVP there are a whole host of other games that are far more suitable for competitive PVP in which one can sate their competitive nature and scratch their PvP itch without roleplay or minimal roleplay involved.

many of the characters i play that would do PvP would not be able to go to that arena.

I would personally enjoy this concept because i could learn a lot about that aspect of this game by actually practicing PvP against random opponents. i learn PvE by playing the enviroment, and learn RP by encountering random RP partners/players. PvP is an aspect that practicing against peers is much much more challenging.

Would it be possible to set up an arena-style map in an interior/cellar in Roaringshore? You could have RP gambling on the outcomes, all the gladiatorial slugging a scoundrel could dream of, and less need to worry about what would be permissible in lawful, mercantile Baldur's Gate?

If one already exists (I've only skimmed the surface of Roaringshore due to not really having an IC reason to go there yet) then I'm sure there are villainous PCs who'd like to take advantage of it?

Sounds like they need to speak to the Ebon Blade, I hear they rent out their personal Arena upon request ;)

"I think you'd end up with individuals or groups camping the entrance for "bandit rp"... putting traps/ delayed blast fireballs right on the transition, etc."

I believe you could eliminate it with a rule to not set such things in the entraces... or some different one which would prevent such cases.

All in all, I can read tons of posts of what would happend, bringing the worst that could destroy whole fun, could not be eliminated with dm and rules set...can anyone actually bring any example? I would like to see the inevitable doom coming with pvp.

This statement pretty much sums up why an area like this isn't needed.

If you really want an area where you can take a break from RP'ing(...?!) the simple solution can be taken in several easy steps: 1. press Esc, 2. click exit game/or go to the main menu, 3. start or continue your single player campaign. Voila!

Personally, I don't see how the server stands to gain by(further) cultivating OOC mentalities, least of all with a free-for-all zone.
