This message has been transcribed.

Your Esteemed Grace, Duke Entar Silvershield,

With humble gratitude I wished to convey again my thanks for your consideration of me, a lone and strange gray orcess that you granted the kindness of your written pass in your lands. It is thanks to your generosity and blessings that I have been able to enjoy the many good things of your city and the surrounding places.

Thank you.

I am writing today for two reasons. One, I am aware that some disturbances may be occurring in the Sharptooth woods between orc and elf. I have not been involved with those tribes, but wished to extend my skills as a diplomat as well as my repore with the Fae of the Sharptooth woods (Who have little love of the Sharptooth tribe) as services at your disposal should you wish to calm things down before they become too unruly for lumberjack and other necessary mercantile activity.

Second, if this or another service is of use to you, I would like this letter to be partly a petition for more free movement in your city. It is all well and good to have a Fist escorting me at all times, but I fear I bore or waste their time when I attend a long play at the theatre or stop in to visit an old friend. I would abhor wasting the time of such skilled and trained soldiers as the Fist.

I am confident that enough of the city is now aware of my presence and face that potential scuffles or misunderstandings would be minimal, but of course this entirely to your wisdom and discretion. I will look for any reply or request at the Friendly Arm's Inn.

Humbly at Your Service,

Kaltyra GreyFang

*Elvina Aira-S’efarro, Knight Commander of the Order of the Silver Rose, hand delivers a letter to Ducal Palace. The letter is written beautifully in flowing script on medium quality parchment and bearing the seal of the Order of the Silver Rose.*

Grand Duchess Jannath,
Grand Duke Eltan,
Grand Duke Belt and
Grand Duke Silvershield

Most Esteemed Grand Dukes and Duchess of Baldur’s Gate,

I humbly write to you on behalf of the Order of the Silver Rose outpost located here on the Sword Coast. We are a Knightly Holy Order based out of Neverwinter and our Mission is to defend the fair people of the lands against influence and agents of vile darkness, and to ensure peace and permanence for the triumph of the Greater Good. We have been stationed here for some time upholding your fair laws of land and offering our aid to the Flaming Fist as well as all other goodly organizations such as the Radiant Heart when ever needed. We have also aided in defense of the realm and care of the goodly people in the war against Amn. Most notably with our Triage station set up to aid the refugees and those injured and in need during the conflict. As well as taking up arms in the final battle that enabled Baldur’s Gate to secure a lasting peace.

Currently, the High Priest of Tyr Eldric Sulnar, has most graciously allowed us to stay at the Temple of Tyr in Baldur’s Gate. However our numbers have grown in abundance in the many months we have been here and we wish to humbly ask for a Writ of Legitimacy and permission to build a Keep upon your lands in the area of the Friendly Arm Inn. We believe this area to be ideal being that it is centrally located with plenty of land as our "patrol" encompasses all the way North and all the way South here on the Sword Coast. Should you request our presence it would be our honor to seek an audience with you to discuss this further if needed?

At this time I believe we have the funds necessary to cover the building materials, land price, documentation required and the labor. We have begun negotiations with the accomplished architect Barbryn Glori. Her impressive portfolio of past works includes renovations to the Radiant Heart Chapter Headquarters in Athkatla and, more recently, contributions to the reconstruction of the Temple of Gond and several noble estates in the Palace District of the Gate.

We humbly await your reply and hope to hear from you soon.
Respectfully,
Lady Elvina Aira-S’efarro
Knight Commander of the Order of the Silver Rose

Ive sent the fist a message some time ago about the current Black Orc activity's in the north. I wish to keep you updated on the situation. As i said in the last letter, Councilor Silias was captured by the orcs, and they asked to speak with me. Under peace talks with a hostage the orcs agreed to leave Doron Amar alone if we allowed them to hunt south of the river unmolested. They gave us back Silias and agreed to not hunt any humanoids, and so a tension filled truce was made.

Its clear the Black Orcs plan to take full advantage of this truce and have moved many Black Orcs south as well as started encampments. We have little faith the Orcs plan to keep to the truce for long, however i fear we simply dont have the numbers to combat them with out large loss of life and high possibility Doron Amar will be lost. I humbly ask for any advice or help you can give in this matter.

Our only ray of hope is that the source of the black orcs moving south has been discovered, as some kind of plan by Malar and his follwers, i hope to hear good news on the efforts to stop this evil.

*A violet scroll with a white ribbon is turned to the guards at the palace. Teuvaelivae implored that it was of utmost importance. A pouch of Zentarim coin was given to the guard as proof of the validity of the message.*

Esteemed Graces of the Sword Coast,

My name is Teuvalivae and I am formerly of Doron Amar. Yet now I write to your Majesties on their behalf. By the initiative of our arch ranger Malandriel a few of us have decided to leave in order to act against the black orcs despite the current treaty. In our last raid we found Zentarim coinage in the hands of the black orcs. If your royal hignesess deems it of any worth, please despatch a trusted officer of the Flaming Fist and I can provide the details aswell as a large amount of these Zhentarim coins. Surely the wisdom of your Royal Highnesses must see that this is proof of the Zhentarims involvement in this conflict. To allow this plague to fester instead of vanquishing them before the rott spread would not avail anyone. I beg of your Majesties, aid Doron Amar in this with the might of the Flaming Fist and your Eminent Graces rid the City of famed Balduran from a possible disaster. Now is the time to act for it shall not be long before the black orcs shall march and destroy a valuble ally to Baldurs Gate. The Flaming Fist would then have to face this army without potent force that would no doubt lessen the loss of soldiers of the Flaming Fist. Malandriel have finalized an brilliant plan for a coordinated strategy that would spare both our armies unnecessary casulties. Malandriel paid for these coins with his life.

Mealir personally delivers a letter to the guards at the Palace. It reads :

Most Esteemed Grand Dukes and Duchess of Baldur’s Gate and to whom it may concern,

The spring equinox is almost on us and this time of the year has always been a time for celebration and joy. In this period of hardships I believe such occasions are most welcome and this why I humbly ask the permission to organize a festival for this spring equinox.

I hope to attract bards and performers of all kind. Music, dance, tales, archery feats, a small wrestling tournament are the ideas so far. Out of reconnaissance for the help of the Flaming Fist in the defense of Doron Amar against the Black Orcs during last autumn numerous elven people should show up, the cost of the festivities, the drinks and food will also be taken care of.

Respectfully,

*the missive is handed to one of the individuals that handles the Dukes' incoming letters*

To: The Grand Dukes and Duchess of Baldur's Gate

From: Leo Hammersmitty, Tinker and Smith of Lantan

Topic: Volunteering My Services as You See Fit

Most Esteemed Gentlemen and Lady of the Gate, forgive my lack of eloquence and diplomatic syntax as I am just a humble Gnome of Lantan. I send this missive simply to make you aware of my presence in your province as well as inform you of the the engineering skills I bring with me. As you rule a fine area which, for the time, I reside in... I would like to offer my modest skill set to this community. If at any time, you require additional assistance in such constructs as siege engines or are presented with any unique defensive problems --- for which there is no current solution --- please utilize my person for the benefit of the people. This furthers my own goals of developing innovations, which are nothing more than unthought solutions to these unforseen challenges.

If you seek further correspondence, I am presently taking a room in the Friendly Arms Inn as the rates are reasonable and I find good company there. Again, please forgive any diplomatic shortcomings that I may have overlooked in this letter. Unfortunately, "etiquette" is a matter I find myself often lacking. That is surely not my intent.

I hope this letter finds you all well,
Leo Hammersmitty

A simple letter written on plain parchment arrives at the Ducal Palace in Baldur's Gate, written in a formal tone in stark contrast to its plainness.

To the Most Esteemed Grand Dukes and Duchesses of Baldur's Gate,

I address you in all humbleness and sincerity, on behalf of all followers of the Lord of Three Thunders, Hoar, who reside in the proximity of your city. I cannot tell you how many or how few we number, but I know that those whom I have encountered desire a place to gather and beseech our god's justice. I am also certain that many others, who do not hold a particular devotion to the Lord of Three Thunders, would nonetheless appreciate a place to pay homage to him.

Sadly, this city, with all of its temples and shrines, is lacking such a place.

That is why I write you, on the behalf of all of these people: that you might set aside, in your just judgment, a small portion of land within these walls for the erection of a temple or shrine. Such a structure would be built entirely on private funding and effort, with your permission. I am well aware that I lack such means on my own, but I have no doubt that it could be facilitated in time, with the help of others.

I humbly ask that you reply at your pleasures, giving just consideration to my request. If needed, I will be more than happy to address any concerns you may have, either regarding the specifics of this project or of our faith, either in letter or in person. I am a wanderer, but I keep account at the Blade And Stars, and you may reach me there.

In all sincerity and humbleness, your servant,

~ Talisen

A letter arrives in the Duchal palace sealed with a wax seal representing Candlekeep's symbol, and two others. One can be recognised as the Whistling Wanderess symbol and the other has something arcane about it, as if a mage symbol is woven into it for further identification. It also has a book attached to it.
-Candlekeep's symbol as wax seal-ImageImage

It is addressed to the Dukes of Baldur's gate. Once opened, the scripts appears to be carefully done, almost calligraphic. The parchment seems well made, suited for the books Candlekeep produces, even. And it reads..

"To the Most Esteemed Grand Dukes and Duchesses of Baldur's Gate,

I address you in all humbleness and sincerity, on behalf of myself and fellow seekers of truth, about a book titled "Treatise on Elven Nature", by P. A. D. G. E. T. Mellowwind Hornduff Glowngood, which was recently published. The books is nothing but a set of slander and misconceptions about a whole race based upon minute meetings with the exceptions to the race. The book is presented as a scientific study, and not as a work of comedy. Were it not for the mislabelling, I would not begrudge its presence. However, its script is presented to the People of the Baldur's Gate in service of your most splendours city, as hard-facts and truths. As a Reader of Candlekeep, I cannot help but feel that such is an act against the betterment of all, for the spread of lies, misconceptions and false truths will mislead people and cause possible unrest that can disrupt the peaceful trade between the master craftsmen of elven race and your city. I wish for the book to be withdrawn, if not, re-labelled as a work of comedy. In the least, a re-titlement to "Treatise to the Elven Nature that differs from elven traditions and customs." The book is written with the kind of elves in mind who have sullied pasts, and not of the standard of the race. Its about at most a few hundred compared to the actual elven population, which is while small compared to human ranges, is still large enough that a few hundred are not even a percent of it.

I also write to you on the matter of being given rights to hold a speech in the square of the East Gate District, during a day of crowd. The speech shall be of educational value, intended to cleanse misconceptions and replace them with knowledge. I do not claim to have perfect knowledge of elven matters, for I'm but a human, but I have lived long with their kind and as a scholar from Candlekeep, have studied their traditions and history as a declared field of study. I believe my speech may garner interest in the population of the Gate towards elven goods, which will cause the city to be frequented by rich collectors, bringing in wealth. And if the Citizens heed the words truly, and learn from them indeed, their living standards will improve as well.

In all sincerity and humbleness, your eager servant,

- Reader Hoihe Dacino of Candlekeep, Navigator of Whistling Wanderess and veteran of the Black orc War in defense of the Farmlands around Baldur's Gate, the Friendly Arm Inn and Doron Amar. Part of the expeditionary force from Candlekeep that handled the issue of the flaming fist regiment trapped in their sleep. Scholar of the fields: The Weave, Dragons, Elven History & Traditions, Planar study of Dreamheart and the Far Realm and Alchemy."

The book involved is a copy of the book mentioned.

A letter arrives at the Duchal palace, adressed to the Dukes and Dutchesses of Baldur's Gate.

To the Dukes and Dutchesses of Baldur's Gate,

Yesterday I came upon the body of a dead woman by the East Gate leading out to the Farmlands. It was lying in front of the two guards stationed there, but neither seemed to care about it. I asked them to investigate the matter as she might have been murdered, or, at the very least, get the body off the streets.

I returned about three hours later, and the body was still there. I once again asked them to do something about it, but they did not seem to care. I reported the incident to James Norton at the Fist Castle, but he did not seem to care either. In the end, I got help from Valiant, a paladin of Tyr in examining the body, but there was no way to tell what had happened. He helped me take the body off the streets and bury it outside, behind the Order.

Now, I do not know what the official policy in Baldur's Gate is on dealings with the dead, but given the recent plague of rats in the Palace District, I would assume that dead bodies would be dealt with swiftly.

It is my hope that you will look into this matter that further incidents may be avoided.

Written in flowing eloquent script*

To Duke Entar of the great city of Baldur's Gate. It is with no small amount of regret and yet need that I write this letter to you, and hope that it reaches you in good health and spirits.

It has come to the attention of my person, that a good friend of mine and others, and a hero and well respected individual in the lands patrolled by the Flaming Fist, known as the Orcess Kaltyra Greyfang. I feel I do not need to remind you of this find upstanding woman, though orc that she be. For she has proven to be both honorable of spirit and action. After all, this is indeed the reason why you gave her a writ of protection, bearing your own signature, that would keep her safe from being molested upon entering your city.

Well it seems that the owner of the Friendly Arm Inn feels he does not need to uphold this writ within his inn. And has been rumored to have placed a bounty on orc heads. This is a concerning event because Kaltyra is an orc, and there are no doubt no small number of barbarous adventurers, guards and other such individuals who will not bother to seek identity of their target other then that it is an orc.

And while I no doubt feel sure that Kaltyra is a competent warrior, I believe that it would be in low character for this upstanding woman to be molested by those who would seek her harm for her race.

I do not ask that you make all orcs safe, but I would ask that something be done so as to prevent an unfortunate accident or harm to foolish individuals seeking quick coin, or to our shared friend Kaltyra.

Signed,
Eli Press.

*by carrier pigeon, a simple rolled up parchment is delivered early sunrise. The parchment appears to be addressed bluntly "Dukes of Baldur's Gate."*

Dear Leader's of this lawful and just region,

I come at the request of the High Guard of Duchal Palace to deliver my accounts of what happened upon the defeat and capture of this villainous pirate known as Kalma Hellstorm. Upon my travels to Baldur's Gate I witnessed a lawless encounter on the streets of Beregost. The Orc known as Arkaine stuck down the villianous pirate in the streets while apparently defending himself.

I went to make sure proper laws were upheld but Beregost seemed tragically short on enforcers. By my duty as Hand and Paladin of Torm I insisted on escorting a bruised and broken Kalma to Baldur's Gate. After a long journey we arrived and handed him over to the Flaming Fist.

Also, there was also a beardless dwarf attempting to plot Kalma's escape, by my very ears. *gives a detailed description of Daggo* This is the extent of my knowledge other then that blacksmith known as Thunderhammer seemed to have witnessed everything if you need further proof.

I also wish to offer my service and duty to help clean up the streets of Beregost in any way possible. It appears to have become a haven for thieves and brigands. Not a fortnight ago I witnessed a female halfing by the name of Sarah threatening an innocent nearby Hin into giving her all his gold out of pure greed. After attempting to bring her to justice she fled like the many cowardly lawbreakers of Faerun. If you see her please bring her to justice if possible *gives a detailed description of Sarah Underburrows*

Forgive any ignorance this letter has shown regarding the history of this fair area, I've been on a pilgrimage to Daggersdale for many months. Feel free to contact me at the Church of Torm in Baldur's Gate. *finally gives a description of herself*

Sincerely,
Tia Fafnir, Hand of Torm

A letter written in elaborate handwriting is sent to the Duchal Palace, signed with an exquisite coat of arms.
Esteemed Dukes of Baldur's Gate,

It is no secret that many of your gracious city is born into a less fortunate life, often being forced into a life of crime. At the behest of this great injustice I have witnessed, I feel morally obligated to do my part, that we may lift the quality of life of these unfortunate souls.

As such, I write in the hope that I may recieve your blessing to establish a legal charity foundation, in order to host charity balls and events where those who desire may publically step up and show their support through coin or other goods, towards children who find themselves without fathers and mothers, and unfortunate souls who despite all odds, choose to live a life without crime.

Natutally, there will be a tax with benefits to thine station in order to provide monetary proof that the Duchal Palace is a vital part of the well-being of Baldur's Gate.

Hopeful Regards,

L. Valasar
