The Council of Four has approved funds for the reconstruction of the farmlands south and east of the city of Baldur's Gate. Although the hard-hit city is low on resources, and cannot spare very much, the commoners are encouraged by this show of support by their leaders.

In the dead of night a creeping mist could be seen floating around the crossroads of the Lion's Way, beckoning people near a specific site.

In the middle of the day the mist would grow and become bolder, blocking out the sun's rays and warmth.

Some say whispers were heard near the site, and some even tell the tale of shadows appearing. . .

The creeping mist returned to the Lion's Way, and with it many shadows and even a few nightwalkers were seen to be stalking the landscape. Many observers noted that they appeared to be looking for something.

In the middle of the investigation, a man appeared, bloody and broken and poisoned by prolonged exposure to negative energy. This man left with a small group of the adventurers.

Others continued the brave fight for a short while, before the fighting ended and the mist slowly dissipated.

The reconstruction of the Baldur's Gate farmlands has been completed ahead of schedule. A small celebration was held in honor of the construction crews and the Council of Four.

In other news, the fiend worshiper and necromancer who had previously escaped custody at the Friendly Arm Inn has been recaptured. His body was turned in to the Order of the Silver Rose, who then turned him over to the Flaming Fists.

The Silver Rose representative responsible for the turnover requested that the posted reward go to the needy citizens of Baldur's Gate. The Flaming Fist has since made the donation in the name of the Order of the Silver Rose to the Sanctuary of Ilmater, for the feeding and the clothing of the poor and the destitute. Several families will undoubtedly be grateful for the blankets and warm food this money buys them as winter continues to drop temperatures low.

Candlekeep has been attacked!

Rumors circulate that the library fortress was attacked by shadow-born foes, striking like assassins in the night. The fighting was fierce, and seemed to center around the monastery's laboratory tower.

A Candlekeep scribe, an acolyte, and three or four guards are said to have died in the fighting.

It is also said that the Gatewarden, Captain Hull, is bedridden with serious injuries, and that several other guards were badly hurt as well.

The reasons for the attack are unknown to the public at large at this time, but speculations run rampant.

Some laugh and some nod yes or no, but all go about whispering about the new events.
