UMD isn't a useless feature. It is still very handy, it's just that it's now not something that is imbalanced. Before the fix, all you needed was full UMD and you were a level 30 cleric and wizard. Now, you need to build sensibly (ie, able to survive if debuffed) and use your UMD sparringly. My fighter can still solo all pve on the server using only a keen edge buff (probably doesn't even need that, I just like seeing big red numbers). If he wants to take on a boss, his first reaction is to bring some friends, but failing that I use UMD. If you know a boss will throw Mords at you then cast light on yourself or something, eat the Mord, go ethereal and buff. If m3nt's naked bard taught us anything, it's that where there's a will, there's a way.

Don't over exaggerate my gnomey friend! Implying I am trying to argue for "soloing the Server" is far from where I stand on the issue.
By your argument of keeping it a Player and Player environment, then when and if Crafting/Enchanting comes online, we should just do away with ALL THE NPC MERCHANTS!!!

There are already plenty of 18 CL potions floating around, and the RIG produces plenty of high CL potions and scrolls. So is the issue really a power issue, or a social/player issue?

RIG produces plenty of high CL potions and scrolls.
Ummmm.......no it does not. It produces junk consistently. I think I have found around 5 CL 20 Bigby scrolls total in 4 years. I do get plenty of crappy bulls strength and other crappy scrolls.
