As they gaze into each other, the masked Dharashan let out an amused snicker before replying ironically:

"Yes, well, it seems as though we do not exactly see eyes to eye as far as this particular matter is concerned. Which isn't a healthy way to become acquainted at all. Let's see if I manage to clarify my position beyond any possible misunderstanding...

I have no problem whatsoever with your religious hokus pokus. I do, however, concern myself with facts. For instance, the fact I have never heard of you, and yet you find your way here...Very curious.
Whoever sent you, should have told you we do not introduce magic items in Dharasha before a thorough analytical process followed by quarantine in a special section of the Arcane Study, pending ultimate approval of the First Mage.
Moreover, thinly veiled threats on my people will not be tolerated. Being kin will not shield you from my displeasure, if you persist in this course of action. And displeasing me is a costly mistake.

Which brings us to the real question: who sent you? And don't tell me "the gods". The temptation to organize a meeting between you and them would be very hard to resist, if you do."

* The elf listens in disbelief and he frowns, sadly looking at the masked figure. Then he sighs deeply, he stands up and resorting to his calm and patience, he slowly bows *

" You are right... this is not the way I'm supposed to forge bonds of friendship and for that, I apologize to you.
However, if you really want to talk about threats, veiled or not, you may want to pay attention to the words you just said: how many people here would consider them to be friendly? Please, just think about it.

My people, your people... why would you make such distinction? We were all born from blood and tears and that is why I would never carry a shield to protect me from my kin. If anything I stand shoulder to shoulder with all of them!

But I do understand your concern about the items. Believe me when I say that I won't try to persuade anyone in taking them, that is not my mission. These are gifts for those who need them! In what twisted world someone needs a permission to offer a gift to their people? It is impossible for me to understand. If you are willing to take them, you are very welcome to start the process for the approval and I would be very happy to be there and assist you to the best of my ability.

Furthermore, I have always been told that meeting The Seldarine it's the greatest honour of all and since we will both rejoin them eventually, your question will be finally answered and your doubts dispelled... "

* Aknowledging the words of Mendel the elf nods to him and collects his items, slowly walking at the border of the village where he would wait for a couple of days for anyone who might still be interested in speaking with him *

A silhouette of a shadow remains in the camp of the wild elves, deligently listening to the proceeds across the stream from the camp. His heart remains heavy and a sadness betrays his being knowing the purpose of what Dharasha once was. The bevied threats and suspicion, the same as the worst of his concerns, eats away at the dream of his perception.

"How would you react if we greeted you with bows and arrows aimed at you?"

Looks briefly towards the camp with the wild elves then back to Helevorn

"Because that is how we were greeted when we first came here. If we were to talk about Dark Maidens and the rest, I dont know if we would be here today. And we are kin to these wood elves, the same way you are to us. As you can see, things have changed. Strangers are not welcomed with bows and arrows. However, this doesnt give you any right to preach about beliefs that are not shared by others.

Like I said, you are welcome to stay. You are not welcome to cause trouble while being here"

If the spectral figure has even noticed the presence of the lurking shadow at the edge of the village, then his reactions do not betray any trace of concern nor awareness, likely confiding that his brother Mendel's keen senses and the equally sharp eyes of the Dharahsan Rangers must certainly have detected it, and if they are leaving it be, it must be a shadow they know very well...

After Mendel himself has spoken, he remarks, seemingly in a mixture of lingering amusement and budding incredulity:

"I concur: what I said was not friendly at all. And in fact, I had no intention to say anything friendly, for the reasons I stated before: I do not know you, and I cannot explain how and why you are here. The fact you are kin is the reason I am even talking to you in the first place.

The distinction comes from the fact "our people" currently includes the Dreadlord of Darkhold, prominent members of the Coven of Darkness, Black Network mercenaries and more. I cannot believe you are this naive and yet, somehow, still alive...it must indeed be a miracle of the Seldarine.

I am somewhat relieved my explanation of how we proceed as far as magic items are concerned (and especially those of unknown origin...) finds your agreement: at least I don't have to question your intellect, if not your motives. The reason why the "gift" is not simply readily accepted, is that we know full well the price for carelessness, and we do not want our loved ones to suffer and die because of it. I am certain you can comprehend where I'm coming from, by now...

As for meeting the Seldarine...you shouldn't believe everything you're told. One day, you'll find out. I hope for your sake that's not too late...The signs are not encouraging.

Through all this, I would like to take a moment in order to remind you that you still did not provide an aswer on whom sent you, and how did you find this place, and yet you have been offered to make yourself comfortable. Like Mendel said, not a decade ago these rangers would have tensed their bowstrings for much, much less..."

* Helevorn stands from the grass, picks up his bag from the branch of a tree and then he calmly speaks for one last time *

" I am really sorry to hear that your actions are guided by mistrust but I won't live my life chained in suspicion and fear, like you do. You call me naive... I call that freedom! I want to be free from preconceptions in order to make mistakes but also free to find new oppportunities and hopefully, new friends. It is a risk that I'm willing to take for the sake of my mission!

Moreover, you are completely wrong if you think that you can tell me what to believe: Corellon made us all free to choose where to put our faith and that is written in our destiny.

Now, since you clearly don't want to speak as friends I have no reason to be here, in the first place. I've already answered your questions more than once, now it appears to me that either you don't want to listen or believe. I wish there was more I could say to change that...

I leave you with my best wishes: may your paths be always golden and green! "

* The elf puts his mask back on, covering his scar, then slowly walks away from the village, not sure if he really wants to forget that place or keep it in his heart as a very sad mistake *

The dark-robed individual snorts, waving a hand dismissively before replying:

"I am not the authority in Dharasha. In fact, I am about to leave for a while. You should base your decision on whether to stay or not on what Mendel has to say, not me.
Said this, being considerate is hardly unwillingness to make friends. Unless those "friends" have something to hide...

I already mentioned I do not concern myself with religion. What makes you think I want to tell you what to believe? Believe what you want, in the hope (for you...) you don't get killed because of it. This objection of yours makes no sense.

Furthermore, you never answered my questions at all. You're quite good at deflecting them, actually: certain crowds would already want to torch me, and cradle your hurt feelings. You're just not especially lucky with your present audience...Not that it matters, mind you: it's Mendel you have to convince, not me. I'm just a relic of a past I should never have survived. Perhaps I did not. But enough about me.

Let's look at the facts: Mendel did speak to you as a friend...he did state in no uncertain terms he is interested in listening, and he surely believes enough...and yet, I see you're on your way out, anyway.
I understand you don't want to give me clear answers, but you shouldn't let that distract you from keeping consistency with what you've been saying all along.

Me and you might not be friends, and perhaps we'll never be, but regardless from that, I don't speak for anyone else but me."

As he utters the last sentence, the mysterious elf is already on his way to the circle of magical stones situated nearby, right across the river.

A group of Elves joined the Order of the silver Rose on a patrol to the North. The patrol took them from the Troll claws all the way to the Boareskyr Bridge, where the group came upon a worrying sight - The whole area was overrun by trolls, goblins and orcs. They were too many to count. The groups presence didnt go unnoticed and waves of trolls, goblins and orcs attacked them.

Image

The group fought the waves one after another, displaying discipline, valor and strategic thinking. The Knights had formed an impenetrable wall, blocking the continuous waves of enemies, allowing the mages to use the mages and their powerful magic to great effect. In the mean time, the rangers using their shadow dancing abilities and their great archery skills, were flanking the opposing groups or attacking enemy casters.

Image

Despite the courageous efforts, it was clear that the attacks were not going to stop. The trolls keep on coming, one after another to their demise. Walking into powerful clouds of magic into the swords and arrows. Yet, they were showing no signs of stopping. It was clear to the group, that this was not a battle to be won. As time passed by, they were getting more tired and their supplies were being diminished, while the enemy kept on coming. It was not long after, that General Seth commanded the group to retreat.

Once at a safe spot, they were all concerned. The army of trolls, orcs and goblins have overrun the North. Mendel was told that it was the devils that were controlling the army. Since the Devils' invasion at Dragonspear Castle, Mendel was concerned. Not just because of the devils presence, but because of incidents that took place 3 years ago. Looking at Kael and Ithilwen worryingly, the three of them discussed in private. It is clear that all three were thinking about the same thing, even though they havent spoken about it all this time...

After the ranger patrols reported the recent changes at the border of the Misty Forest, orders were issued to gather food supplies for storage. Edmund, a cleric of Chauntea, having heard about the recent threat, offered his knowledge on how to efficiently store supplies within root cellars - small, underground structures that can be used for storage of vegetables, fruits and other food.

Mendel was seen to store a quiver holding just five arrows within the armory. Rumors quickly spread around the village that those arrows were crafted to kill a specific devil and were given to the Elves by the rangers and druids of the Elder Circle.

On another note, an one-eyed tiefling was seen at the outskirts of the village, driven there by the orcs that roam the Misty Forest. The one-eyed tiefling did not cause any trouble and left peacefully once it was asked to do so.

DM Soulcatcher wrote:The southern borders of the Misty Forest appear to be silent. No wildlife is seen or heard in several miles. The barbaric human tribes living across the High Moor, likewise, seem to have mostly displaced themselves. Perhaps it was hobgoblins, that chased everyone away. Perhaps it was strange monsters, whos' tracks may be found on the Moors.

One thing is certain, however.. The Misty Forest is not a welcome place. Not because of some orcs roaming around, but because of dead Hybsils, burned trees and smell of brimstone spreading through the woods.

Peace is no more.

Edmund the cleric of the Earth mother and friends from The Elder Circle and The Phoenix Company came Deep in the Misty Forest led by Vendor on the advice of Tirion who told the guards they were coming with needed supplies for the Root Cellar that Edmund would teach Nai how to make and then store the food properly.

After her and Mendel's patrol of the Misty Forest Nai gathered the supplies brought to the village and set out to look for Edmund to get started on the Root Cellar.

The atmosphere in the wood elven settlement, as of late, is growing only more grim. Seeing the preparations of storing food being underway, many of the inhabitants begin to prepare similar ones themselves... as well as start training archery and longsword fencing more extensively.

Scouts and Rangers are keeping close to the village, observing, detaining and turning away any non-elf that gets close to the settlement.

A dark-robed, hooded figure leaves the Arcane Study in a spectral walk, gliding past the rangers, and outside the Dharashan glade.

"If the atmosphere is indeed so grim, perhaps it's time for some...reaping. It's only fair I introduce myself, before I send them back to the Nine..."

And he disappears deeper into the forest, towards the danger zone.

The dark-robed figure glided closer to the flames, the smell of brimstone filling the air. His emerald eyes scanned the organized devastation the orc vanguard caused, dark-winged humanoid shapes soaring the sky right above the trees, reinforcement pouring into the clearance from the distance.

Surrounded by a small army of his own, he moved in to confront them. Twenty warriors, four pact mages, and the warchief. Odds he could take...but Ithilwen was following him, and he was not going to put her at risk. Not even to protect this speck of forest. Moving closer, he opened in orcish with his usual, impeccable diplomacy:

"You, Chief. Come closer, and be quick about it. I haven't got all day..."

After all, wisdom had never been one of his strengths...

After a brief, yet enlightening exchange, they had the information they came for. He promised the Chief he would bring his people's answer. And he would, in all its devastating might.

It was time to talk to Mendel.
