Come on Negs... Please tell me you got the Happy Gilmore reference! Regardless of any other disagreements we should all be able to agree that was a great use of a movie quote! "The price is wrong bitch Bob!"

The server is pg 13. Expect pg 13 results for reactions. 7 pages is far beyond what this thread is worthy of.

Too often though people use the *excuse* of prejudice to just be (person) in the game cuz they like causing conflict. Specifically for warlocks, I would want concrete DM guidelines for how PCs could determine if I am using eldritch magic or regular arcane magic.

Just put 1 point in spellcraft.

Yeah that is BS.

Well, if someone is using magic that's not available to my wizard and he recognises the spell or the Eldritch blast it would do a bit more than raise an eyebrow. If you're trying to hide it and use spells that the Arcane classes have available to them, there'd be no questions asked.

I'd treat this as valid excuse, actually, if it is applied to me.

People can hear rumors, tales and legends.
So they CAN recognize on rare occasions spells being cast even though they know very little about magic. They can start asking questions. And you can fool them with your awesome bluff skill.

Also, spellcraft DC is quite fair.
Eldricth doom has equivalent spell level 8. Spellcraft check is 15 + spell level. It won't ever succeed on 1 skillpoint.

Now, only a mage would know full details about warlocks, their invocations and source of power, but anybody else could scream "wiiiitch!" and run away in terror, or start a confrontation.

That's... a very weird argument. There are also warlock spells considered lvl 2, 4 and 6 I think? Why did you skip them all and went straight to lvl 4 invocations? It's ok to be wrong from time to time bro.

People thinking 1 spellcraft is enough to recognize my firestride exhalation is different than a wizards or sorcerer's is exactly my problem with this whole thing.

They recognize it when it shows in combat log. If it does't show up, they don't recognize it.

DC 17, 19, 21 accordingly. Also, I think essences affect it.
Go to anydice and check out your chances.

If you don't want to be recognized - don't cast that stuff with untrusted bystanders present.

Check: The DC of a spellcraft check is equal to 15 plus the level of the spell being cast.
Special: Specialist wizards receive a +2 bonus to Spellcraft on spells of their specialized school of magic, and receive -5 on checks made against spells of their prohibited school.
It should be a check made without a 1d20 roll IMO. That way people who know spellcraft can identify such things still as making warlocks undetectable by their unique forms of magic seems as silly as making the druid language invulnerable to comprehend languages just because it is "secret".

I don't know, D20 is sorta the point of D&D. On a bad day you can miss something obvious and mess up. DC (15 + spell level) looks decent to me, also skill checks do not auto succeed or auto fail. DC 15 + spell level is the same dc wizards are supposed to use for learning scrolls, by the way.
Spells Copied from Another’s Spellbook or a Scroll
A wizard can also add a spell to her book whenever she encounters one on a magic scroll or in another wizard’s spellbook. No matter what the spell’s source, the wizard must first decipher the magical writing (see Arcane Magical Writings, above). Next, she must spend a day studying the spell. At the end of the day, she must make a Spellcraft check (DC 15 + spell’s level). A wizard who has specialized in a school of spells gains a +2 bonus on the Spellcraft check if the new spell is from her specialty school. She cannot, however, learn any spells from her prohibited schools. If the check succeeds, the wizard understands the spell and can copy it into her spellbook (see Writing a New Spell into a Spellbook, below). The process leaves a spellbook that was copied from unharmed, but a spell successfully copied from a magic scroll disappears from the parchment.

If the check fails, the wizard cannot understand or copy the spell. She cannot attempt to learn or copy that spell again until she gains another rank in Spellcraft. A spell that was being copied from a scroll does not vanish from the scroll.

In most cases, wizards charge a fee for the privilege of copying spells from their spellbooks. This fee is usually equal to the spell’s level × 50 gp.
Raising or lowering DC would mean giving a special treatment. I think it wouldn't be right.
