The first time it happened, Gwynn wasn’t ready. She sat straight up in her cot, shaking and dripping with sweat. Then seizing her journal and quill from the ground, she quickly recorded her dream… No, that’s not the right word, she feverishly ruminated… Vision… yes, that’s it…

And she recorded the dates and times of all others after that as well. They were recurring and came to her frequently, at least once or twice a fortnight. They seemed so real, as they began with her rising from her cot and peering through the flap of her tent. A bloody, mutilated corpse lay next to the dying embers of her fire, as if peacefully sleeping. Suddenly, its feral-looking face turned toward her, blood red eyes gazing intently as if to peer into her very soul. A large medallion emblazoned with a circle of red blood-tears surrounding a white skull hung from his mangled throat. He whispered, You must return their bodies and souls to me, my angel of death… All of them in their time. I am your God and their deaths will bring strength and glory to my name. Go forth now and do my bidding.

And so she devoted further study to the magical arts that came to her naturally. She would be His great equalizer, His angel of death, until it was her own time to leave this world.
