(To Aetheltryth;) wishing to be taught

IC: a young half- elf with reddish hair and green eyes, donning an armour with the symbol of the Red Knight on it, is going about town asking people if they know one who has mastered the longsword and is willing to teach her. She claims to know the basics, but she wishes to know more - to try to be the best she can be with it.

OOC: I am wishing to have my character be a weapon master eventually. Since, from what I understand, this is rather an exotic study, I'm looking to roleplay the proces of being taught and slowly getting better and better at it. This post is more or less aimed at Aetheltryth, as we spoke about it in-game, though if anyone else feels they could teach her a few things, just approach her in game and roleplay it :)

My character is named Larissa.

(\\FYI, my board name is Ambaryerno, Aethelthryth is just one of my characters)

Aleric leaned back in his chair in a dark corner of the tavern, a stein of ale in his hands and his booted feet propped up on the table top, ignoring the roar of the crowd around him. Other patrons deep in their cups at times approached to include him in their revelry, only to be sent fleeing again with a warning glare.

As he finished his drink the Tavern keeper approached with a fresh stein, which he thumped down on the table. "What's the matter?" Aleric said, "Yer barmaids afraid to come over here any more?"

"What the hells do you think you're doing to my place, Mehtar? Times are tough enough without you glowering all my customers away," the big man said as he flung the end of a towel over one shoulder. "Ain't it time you moved on somewhere else?"

Aleric casually flipped him a coin for the drink. "My gold's as good as theirs, ain't it? And it's a lot bloody quieter, too, when I'm left in peace as I've asked."

"Some people look to have a good time when they're drinking, and that's not easy when I've got a bum like you in the corner spoiling the merrymaking."

He took a long drink from his stein. "You kicking me out?" Aleric asked without looking up.

"You're the only one in this place who doesn't get out of hand."

"If this is just a social visit, don't you have kegs to mind?"

The tavern keeper glared and folded his arms across his chest, but the effect was lost on him. "You're a swordsman, ain't you? You ever teach?"

Aleric snorted derisively. "I've seen ye wield a table leg breaking up a bar fight. Yer better off hiring me as a guard than learning to fight yerself."

"There's some elven lass or other looking to be taught, I thought I'd send her your way to keep you out of my hair during the busy season."

"She offering up coin?"

"Don't know, didn't ask."

Aleric shrugged. "Whatever. Send her my way. If she's paying at least I won't be spending all day looking at yer fat ass."

That night, word goes out that a regular of the Blade and Stars who goes by the name of Mehtar (\\alias I'm using, FYI, no one knows my character's real name) may be willing to teach the use of the longsword.

Larissa stepped into the smoke-filled common room of the Blade and Stars, and found herself a corner from which she could observe the local patronage. One by one, she considered those present, and came to the conclusion that none could possibly be the one that the tavern keeper had spoken about a night earlier.

"No, not that one either - I very much doubt anyone with a beer gut of that size has anything to teach me about using weapons...", she thought to herself, dismissing the last of the few. She sighed, disappointed, and made her way to the tavern keeper.

"You remember me, right?", she asked the man, and upon his conformation, she continued: "the man you were talking about earlier, this Mehtar, he isn't present at the moment, is he?"

The innkeeper shook his head. "Nay, he hasn't been here for the last few evenings." He looked up from his work. "And don't ask me where to reach him either, for I've no idea."

"Perhaps you could give him this letter from me? I'll pay you for your troubles." She set a small stack of coins and a parchement on the table.

The parchement reads:

To master Mehtar,

I have learned through our mutual acquaintance that you are willing to teach one such as myself in the use of the longsword. Not wishing to doubt your expertise, I would still like to meet at your first convenience for a test lesson - for us both to evaluate eachothers skill.

Our acquaintance mentioned that you had mentioned payment -which I consider completely natural- yet he had not mentioned the amount to be paid. Rest assured that I am able to pay for my lessons, and I am also willing to pay through other ways, specifically, cleaning armour, weapons, and running other errands which you might require someone for.

In the hopes that this message reaches you swiftly,

Yours most humbly, Larissa

Aleric reads the note and snorts a laugh. "Well, there's something I never expected to see, me with a squire."

He grabs a scrap of parchment and a quill pen from the tavern keeper and writes quickly in a strictly functional script:
Name a date and time to arrange a meeting.
-Mehtar
\\I'm available most nights during the week at about 6-7pm CST, or most of the day on the weekend. Let me know when's good for you

(( I will try to be on next weekend. This weekened was a bit bad with it being Christmas and all. I live in northern Europe, so I live in CET time (+1 GMT) and that makes it that when you log on, I might have to just about log off myself during weekdays ;)
