Bregan D'earthe RP thread

Unread post by Flasmix »

This is a place where we can post RP threads involving our characters in Bregan D'earthe

The Snake's Oil

Flasmix sat at the table with a glass of wine in his hand. His chair, carefully balanced on the back two legs rocked back and forth as the Drow propped his legs up on the table. His feathered hat sat tilted to the side, allowing his eyes to peer out at the other patrons of the Gloura's Wing.

He was waiting, waiting for a meeting which he did not know the outcome. It was a dangerous situation, something which he was not used to. Considered to be the genius of the merchant business, he always liked to have a plan in motion. Possibilities covered, escapes planned and spells prepared. He usually plans for every outcome, but not today. Today he was waiting, waiting for a meeting. A meeting with what can be called, the Leader of Bregan D'earthe in Sshamath. Sure, he answers to Jarlaxle, but every other member in the city answers to him.

He barely noticed the other man sit across from him. His eyes, staring blankly ahead as he tried to think of some sort of plan. Flasmix and the other man stared at each other in silence, waiting for some sort of introduction. Flasmix spoke first, "Lorath, I presume?" He brought his feet back to the ground and lowered his chair.

Lorath nodded. "And you must be Flasmix. When I was told to look for the most gaudy male in the bar, I was not expecting this." Lorath was handsome for Drow standards. Flasmix could tell that Lorath was a man of the shadows, one who has seen more death than he has or ever would. Lorath was a snake, beautiful, graceful and very poisonous.

Flasmix scoffed, running his fingers along the brim of his hat. "Wealth requires certain sacrifices. Especially in my business."

Lorath leaned forward, narrowing his eyes. "And what business is that exactly? I very much dislike receiving letters calling me out in the open for a 'business transaction'."

Flasmix smiled and leaned back in the chair. He brought the wine to his lips, taking a small amount of it in. "I am a merchant."

"There are plenty of those in the city. What would the City of Trade be without merchants?" Lorath replied.

"Ah." Flasmix raised a finger. "A valid point indeed, but you must realize that I am different. I do not wish to simply, sell my goods to the highest bidder and live in comfort. I have a plan to become one of the most powerful associations in the city, which is why I asked to meet you."

Lorath crossed his arms. "Oh yes, what was it called again? The Sshamath Merchant's Association? When I first heard about your little league I thought 'Now here is something new and original. Someone thinking they can claim leadership over trade in the city.' To consider you a threat? That would be an insult to my intelligence."

"Yet here we sit. You came to meet me, someone who poses no threat to your ambitions. Do you do this often?" Flasmix chuckled. Lorath narrowed his eyes. He underestimated Flasmix's intelligence and allowed his pride to take a hit.

"Speak then of why we are here." Lorath held back the urge to spit on the ground.

"I know of Bregan D'earthe. A group of mercenaries and merchants," Flasmix started, "Yet you have no influence in the city as merchants."

Lorath waved a dismissive hand. "We have a large warehouse, it's goods go to serve other members."

Flasmix nodded, "But what if those goods can both serve the others and turn a profit?" Lorath sat in silence, there was no need to reply and he simply twirled his fingers for Flasmix to continue. "I propose a merger of sorts. Allow me to sell your goods, let me control the merchants while you control the mercenaries. We sell the goods that sit in the warehouse and collect dust while bringing in new supplies with the gold we get for selling them."

Lorath nodded, he could see the logic in that arguement. Flasmix continued, "We sell the goods for a lower than expected price because we want people to come to us first and foremost for all trades. Now here is the genius part, suppose another merchant wants to move in on our territory. We offer him an ultimatum, join us or life will become very unpleasant. This is where your mercenaries come in."

Lorath smiled, "An interesting idea. What will be the point of this though?"

"First we control all of the internal trade. Then, we begin taxing all incoming caravans. Once we control trade we will have a strangle hold on the Conclave if w-" Lorath held his hands up and leaned in, cutting Flasmix off.

"You speak of dangerous intentions... Keep your voice down." Lorath took a deep breath in. "We already work closely with the conclave."

Flasmix nodded, "But we are disposable. They can get others. Trade is an essential part of the city. It is what keeps it's blood flowing. If we can control trade, we can start to control the Conclave."

Lorath was stunned. This Flasmix was gaudy and arrogant but he is just as deadly as a coiled snake hiding beneath the rocks. To let someone as dangerous as him so close, it was a shock to be caught as unprepared. Lorath nodded reluctantly, "So this is what makes you different from the others. You have a dangerous ambition."

Flasmix waited silently, there was no reason to agree to the obvious and he could tell that Lorath wasn't finished. "I always look to the future," Lorath continued, "and I agree that we can help each other become wealthy and powerful. Your plans to control the Conclave will not be so easy. Do not underestimate them, they are very powerful."

Flasmix flashed his teeth in a deadly smile. "By the time they realize that we control all forms of trade, it will be too late. The moment they strike, we cut it all off. No trades, no caravans, nothing. If trade is the cities blood, then it will not survive long without it. The people will rebel and act against the conclave, I do not wish this to happen of course... but it is one of my many possibilities. I would rather work closely with them."

Lorath had to agree, it would be better to work with them than to have to fight whatever they could throw at them. "Then Flasmix, the Sshamath Merchant's Association and Bregan D'earthe will merge to become a powerful force."

Flasmix raised his wine glass to the air. "A toast then, to our partnership." He drank the rest of the wine down in a single gulp. The two serpents smiled to each other. A time of change has entered into the city and the two snakes have become one.
END

**Note: Actual conversation was a lot more friendly. I wanted to make it a bit more interesting.**
Wirg to Pug: "Iz lat dun?"
Pugratix to a snarky militia man: "Mmmm. Not yet. I will live for hundreds of years and be heralded as one of the greatest forces of destruction on the face of the world. The only thing you can destroy is the outhouse."

I finished the story. Sorry about putting up just some of it, I typed a lot and I was at work and the power went out. Our generators only last for about a minute for the computers.

Troubling news have crossed my ears it seems we have a traitor among us this matter will be investigated a bit further but all should know that any threat to us as a Group or to any individual member will not be tolerated and will be dealt with swiftly .

If the traitor will be found guilty he should know there will be no safe place for him to hide we are everywhere Sshamath the under dark even the surface we hear and see all.

The result would be the same for anyone who will follow the same path the traitor did this will not be tolerated and will result in death or even worse.

His mission was a complete success...

Torksh was now returning to Sshamath with a wicked smile on his face. His target was now dead.

He couldn't stop thinking about his recent great accomplishment. Sneaking in a room with elven guards everywhere required no small prowess.

But everything went well... the elven woman was poisoned and now she slept the sleep of the dead.

He should now return to his duties in the city of Sshamath... There was still much to be done... and the greater target was yet to come.
Hmm... not sure who I'll be playing yet... any ideas? :D

While passing at the market of Sshamath Lorath thinking to himself …

So many new faces at the market I guess they don’t know on whose turf they are.

I guess Flasmix will have some work for us to deal with those ignorant merchants who think they can trade freely around here .

The gnomish courier arrived at the meeting spot. Torksh was already waiting for him in the shadows.

Out of nowhere, he appears and puts a rolled parchment in the courier's hand.

Don't waste my time... deliver this to Lorath, tell him to report to Lt. Oblodra my mission was a success. Now get out of my sight.

With clumsy steps the gnomish courier went searching for Lorath and almost fell after tripping in some buckets on the ground.

Torksh shook his head and disappeared into the crowd.

The message reads:

Vendui abbil,

I cannot trust this courier so, I will not put much information in this message.

Lt. Oblodra must know my mission in the surface was successful, and I'm ready to begin the final one.

We must meet so we can share knowledge about the matter.

Aluve,

TT

Moments after receiving the message Lorath is thinking to him self

I'm glad your back Torksh been a while *he grins while thinking*
I can still remember the day Jarlaxle encountered us both near Sshamath fighting of his subordinates I'm not sure if my fate would have been the same if we would set off to the hunting grounds together that day so I am grateful for that.

To the messenger: return to Torksh and give him this address this is where we will meet... now be on your way before I turn you into leather jacket .

A letter is left at the Gloura's Wings, addressed to members of the famed mercenary band, Bregan D'aerthe. It reads, translated from Drow:

"After much trial and tribulation, it seems that I've encountered someone willing to deliver a message to you all - let us hope the message reaches its destination.

We of the Thieves' Guild of Baldur's Gate wish to enter into a trade agreement with your band, to our mutual benefit. You have already spoken with one of our operatives, known to us as Emerald, who showed us but a sample of what you had. To be sure, it was nothing to scoff at.

However, we desire most of all (if you have it and can spare it) fine leather and chain armor, and light weapons. If you have it, we have coin to offer you, and our coin is just as good as any of your kinsmen's.

While your intentions were originally to come up onto the surface in order to conduct the business necessary, I will be in Sshamath for approximately a day. If you need me, I can be found in the Gloura's Wings.

A word of caution, however: it seems that an archmage known as Belados has encountered two of our operatives already and has been watching them close. It would be wise for you to make sure you are alone when you come to meet me.

While cleaning his blade on his Victims corpse Zordem turns to Nimenaar :

This is the first time we hunt Kivvil together Abbil i see your skills have improved *he grins*

Me and Shar have discussed about our allies on the surface they all seem to be completely useless but i see alot of power growing within Sshamath Which is Bwael this means our services will be needed soon and we can focus on our home ground.

The glory of the battle field i miss it so much *he smirks* i really hope i am right and soon we all will have a kill contest and the best part is that we are going to be paid for it *laughs*.

Now we should focus in increasing our numbers many of our warriors have fallen and if we want to prove our selves to be an unstoppable force we must find more recruits so you and Shar must be on the lookout for potential warriors if you travel with someone of some skill let me know.

Alright i have said it all now lets go hunt some more !!!

A note pinned to the doors of Gloras wings :

A reward of 5000 gold pieces will be granted for every head of the described man companions for the crime of insulting in public a member of Bregan Dearthe.

His companions are to be slain in front of him only and he is to be left alive doesn't matter in what condition and make sure he knows the assassination was ordered by a Drow he have met at Gloras wings.

at the end of the message theres a very detailed description of Cythis Letonosef.

Sighned

Galduil was "educated" about the folly of traveling with a marked target. I did not take his head, just beat him into unconsciousness and then reminded him of the severity of his actions. He now understands that Cythis is a pariah and will travel with him no more.

An eye appears nailed to the same spot as the note.

It once belonged to Draeval Z'har, who has not been heard from in some time.

There is no comment, it's just an eye nailed to the door.
