Sacrifice In the Hilltop Ruins

"And there were dozen's upon dozen's of the little wretches....", says the young woman, adorned in a chain shirt accented with sturdy brown cloth and hide.
The young man dressed in simple grey robes on the other side of the table leans in, looks around the bar and then back into the eyes of the woman and asks, "Dozens?"
"Dozen's upon Dozens." The woman replies.
"I didn't realize the ruins atop the hill bred kobolds in such large numbers...that's troubling.", says the man.
"Aye, and neither did we. Just as many Bladelings in the lower levels. They were all yapping away about a sacrifice of some sorts. We were hell bent on finding out what all the ruckus was about, only to find an old man locked up behind bars in the far reaches of the lower level. There was even a wyrmling on gaurd to his prison", the woman states.
The man gets a puzzled look on his face. "...and you said you were able to free him from the cell. So where is he now?"
"We were making our escape, and I was taking up the rear. As we were leaving the lower level, I told the old man to go on ahead. He insisted I go first. When I turned my back, the door had shut behind me, and we all heard a loud "thump"". The young woman get's a concerned look on her face. "We went back down after him, but he was nowhere to be seen! It's as though he just vanished!"
"You searched the whole lower level? Why would you leave him alone like that?" the man asks with a judging tone in his voice.
"Of course we did!" The woman gets up on her feet and gives the man a scalding look. "We did everything we could! It wasn't my fault he wouldn't listen to me!" The woman puts her hands on her hips. "If you're going to insult me like that, the least you could do is get me drunk before you do it! Some nerve!" She tosses a few gold pieces onto the table and storms out of the tavern.
The man takes a few seconds to regain his composure, leaps to his feet, and chases after her. "W-Wait! Annie! I'm sorry! Where are you going?! Annie!!!" he shouts as he bolts out the door to follow.
