On a particular person whose name shall remain unnamed is an book that, while its cover may appear unremarkable, its contents are considerably less so. Written on the pages is a cipher made from a strange form of Elven transliteration written backwards, then shifted 6 letters to the left in the Thorassan alphabet. The first page, when decrypted, reads as follows:
"If only these vagabonds could have revealed themselves to me sooner... it seems as if I am finally getting noticed and garnering the respect I deserve. I think the halfling knows well enough that she was dangling over a fire pit and that I saved her from being burned. I think the real question is, does she think that I shall forget that a debt shall later need to be repaid?
I hope she does not take me for an idiot. It appears as though the monk and the elven wench who follows him take me for one, and that is... disappointing. They are hiding something from me, but it shall not remain hidden from me for long. Their dancing act can only stretch so far and with so many people. I do not care what they truly are, either... all I wish for is the lord's trust in or compliance with my actions.
I think I shall need shelter, if those to the south of Baldur's Gate follow through on their threats and are not mere peddlers in empty words."
