Bioware Community Login Timeout Work Around

As some of you know Bioware got hacked, and in response to that, one of the things they did is took down the server. This means waiting longer to log in.

Here is a solution for some windows users:

1:) Find this file: c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

2:) Make a backup.

3:) Open it with a text editor.

4:) Add the following line at the bottom after the last #:

Code: Select all

#nwn2 bypass first login
0.0.0.0 nw2master.bioware.com
5:) Save the file.

6:) ???

7:) Profit.

As a side note, this tends to only work on start ups. If you log out and try to log back in without closing nwn2, chances are you will be timing out again with the message, "master server down".

That's because gamespy used to have a master server too.

You should add "0.0.0.0 nwn2.master.gamespy.com" line to the Hosts file as well.

(Yes, gamespy will still be working)

My Windows 7 will not allow me to save the edited file in its original location. Is there a work around for this?

Try saving it as a text file, moving the existing hosts file, and putting the text file in - then remove the file extension on the text file.

so the bottom of the host file should look like this?

# ::1 localhost
#nwn2 bypass first login
0.0.0.0 nw2master.bioware.com
0.0.0.0 nwn2.master.gamespy.com

might need to restart the machine after making these changes too, or it wont reference them

This sometimes works for me, but most times doesn't. Any ideas?

Use the latest version of the client extender. It reduces the 30 second timeout to 1 second.

I have no idea what you're talking about, Decado.

EDIT: Downloaded that and tried it. Makes no bloody difference whatsoever.
