Appearance: Daeva is a rare beauty (22 Charisma), stunning to behold. With pale marble skin, seemingly untouched by the sea’s searing sun, and flowing white hair. Striking tattoos surround a set of piercing violet eyes that seem to slip into one’s soul with a malevolence that smolders deep within her gaze. She carries herself with a trained swordswoman’s ease. Clad in blackened Mithral breastplate, a heavy rapier belted at one hip, a short sword strapped to her back and an assortment of deadly looking daggers about her person - nothing from her armament to her boots look soft or dainty. If death was beautiful, it would look like Daeva.

Background

Daeva was orphaned in the seaport village of Lusken. Raised by a no-nonsense Tavern Keeper, as a scullery maid, barmaid and eventually a performer for the rowdy pirate and thug infested tavern. She was never naive, ascertaining from a young age that she could trust no one, but herself, and that a dagger was indeed a girl’s best friend.

Being a zealous sort, Daeva found there was much to be learned in a town comprised of passer-byers. She tuned her musical talents with many a traveling bard, practiced magic with mage gypsies, and picked the minds of thieves and clerics alike. Her appreciation was especially peaked for those truly talented with weapons. There were only a few whom caught her eye and it was from those she studied the art of combat.

The sea, ever-so constant brought patrons a plenty, though in time these fleeting faces only became tantamount to that of which the wind had blown through before. Daeva had grown restless with these tavern days and thus joined a sorry crew of pirates to ply the high seas.

Her audacious nature swelled with the open seas, rapidly rising in ranks from petty piracy to eventually taking on piracy for her own - becoming a scourge of the seas, sinking many a ship and living a pirate’s life.

As a beginning and an end, Daeva found herself ordering her crew to stand-down whilst appraising an elf lad who fought valiantly to defend the vessel he was aboard. She noted the fire in his eye and a determination that ran soul deep. Despite the elf disposing a third of her crew, she simply laughed, “Good show,” then sneered, “Those were the worthless ones.”

She knew weapon talent when she saw it and his bowmanship was extraordinary. Her attention was captured, the elf intrigued her and she felt compelled to bring him aboard her ship.

The elf Acheron joined her under protest and this pleased her just fine. The uppity elf was amusing and they spent many hours talking, practicing archery and singing together. Daeva could see the poor sod had become smitten by her, and this amused her as well. She never had a puppy before.

The mutiny came as no surprise to Daeva, but brought a bitter taste non-the-less. She was a pirate and being soft to a doe-eyed elf never swims well with one’s pirate crew. The battle for the ship was fierce and although she prevailed with a bit of help from the elf, the ship was ablaze and taking on water. Slinging the injured elf over her shoulder, cursing the sea and all ships, she leapt from the stern and dragged the elf to shore.

Daeva patched the elf up the best she could, but his wound was too grave. Looking to the sky, thick with swirling gray clouds, it was tale-tell of a storm fast approaching. Knowing time was short she made for the only shelter she could find, a temple with an ill-faced omen of a large skull.

Deep within the temple, exhausted and injured, she fought off the temple’s guardians; dead which had risen to engulf her. Nearly broken, she sank to her knees defiantly cursing the undead, then thundered; “I doth not fear thee! I fear not death! Nor any of which these bags of bones could torment bring!”

Summoning the last of her strength, she began chanting her own song of requiem in preparation to bring the battle to the undead beasts. Then, as if without warning, all became still and a voice whispered unto her… Myrkul would have her be his.

Daeva awoke the following morning much different. She stood above the now healed elf as he sleepily opened his eyes. With an expression of stone, she began to speak of her new captain; Myrkul the God of Death.

Daeva Diablerie was now bound to Myrkul. The elf, Acheron Shadowbow, purposefully swore to align at her side to time’s end for her sacrifice.

Though Acheron and Daeva came from somewhere, they call nowhere home and are currently seen traveling the lands of Faerun together.

Goals: With an insatiable appetite for adventure, Daeva has a constant need to travel, seeing everything that can be seen, doing everything that can be done, and a passion for finding rare and precious treasures.

Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:

Can Death die? If the Captain of Death ceased, surely Daeva would be her own captain once more, but how can such a covenant be undone?
