Villain for rent ...
Hi, i wonder if this is an idea that ever has been considered before but wouldnt it be cool if evil PC could play a role in DM events as villains ?
i dont mean super complicated stuff , tough personally i'd love to take on the challenge of a complexe plot , im sure plenty of easy stuff could be done ...
for example , the evennt of Nashkel assaulted by giants , it happens pretty often i'd dare say its a BG classic , now consider Shamath not so far lore wise , people teleport up and down for trade evryday , maybe one of the high giant clerics teleports down to the city in order to recruits UD mercs and volunteer then brings them up and either intergrate them in his army or sends them on a parallel mission. Fallen villains are sent back home location no prisoners no complexities .
RP xp could be earn by performing a good villain or somthing and with one stone hit two birds : one event could serve both UD and Surface players at the same time .

Re: Villain for rent ...
I think the main difficulty for these kind of events lies in the lack of Factions; meaning that NPCs can be either Friendly or Hostile to all players. So said giants would attack their "own" PC villians as well as the goodie-twoshoes.
Though that aside, I know that a lot of events have been based around evil PC's in one way or another, just act your role out and if the DMs see something that fits for a plot of theirs I'm sure they'll help integrate you in their scheme =)

My evil pc misses out on events usually now because all she can do his heckle the good paladins and clerics. It is really out of character to lend them a hand. I would like to be able to join on he opposing side to with an evil pc.
I know we get pirate events occasionally, but really ,every one knows if you play a goody at camp , or a hidden baddie, you have alot of chances to go slaughter bad guys. I think it would be fun to play one of those bad guys. Its really fun to actually fight 'good' guys, especially when every thing goes wrong.
I would make a villain and level it even if I knew it could be kill by rampaging good guys event. I would want to not die in the 1st 5 seconds though . that would really be disappointing. No drama in that.

Re: Villain for rent ...
i tought about the mob faction problems , the PC villains would have to be ethereal or invisible until battle starts or somthing , im sure if its the only problem we can work around it.

Re: Villain for rent ...
problem with invis is some mobs have true seeing
problem with ethereal is... some mobs have true seeing
a faction system is needed bad, evil PCs simply cant support or get proper support without it, but goodies have no trouble because everyone is a defender by default
tho some of the default NPC scripts still dont know the difference, if they are too close to fighting or get hit by an AoE they might turn hostile, so a faction system would/should help with that as well

Re: Villain for rent ...
sure it'd be cool , but isnt asking for a faction system a big request ?
personally i could live with a few bugs that could arise after all, if you're a rented Villain as i put it , you're on DM's team for a while following his or her lead, if by bad luck a mob would have true seing it could be removed or , the rented villains could be in a DM area wating to be ported by him for the showdown or somthing or even be one map ahead or behind either as first defence or reserve unit we could be set at a location to provoke an RP scene while DM prepares somthing else i feel the posibilities are enormous...
i make no mistake that in all certainty such events would always end up with the villains dead and sent home or at least rebuked by the valliant efforts of the heroes ( lol ) but i think it'd be a lot of fun anyway, we could earn RP xp for our efforts and could bring dept and RP to any Dm event that would dare to use us in such a manner.

It is, but what they are saying is that this has been done before (including evil PCs on events as the baddies) its just not done very gracefully due to the issues mentioned.Gruk wrote:sure it'd be cool , but isnt asking for a faction system a big request ?
When you have something this buggy and unwieldy, it becomes pretty rare for DMs to want to deal with. Especially if they are newer or arent super quick with the client.
Its a reasonable thing to ask, and i'm sure if your RP led to it and there was a DM amiable it could happen. They are just saying that with a faction system a lot of this stuff could happen. We've wanted it for a looong time.

Anyone who's read anything by the esteemed Mr Salvatore will tell ya that drow and the UD are behind every mob of giants and goblinoids anyway!

Myself, Luna, Raseal and Ivan have been working slowly on making a reputation Faction system that will allow NPC's to recognize player's that are allied and opposed to their factions.
It is also being designed to be flexible so that we can adjust creature mob and PC's allegiances dynamically in an event. I know of how important Global factions are to any PW that wants to make conflict dynamic and less confusing. It is a top priority especially with the consolidation of guilds under the Opposing Global Factions model we have set-up.
Our upcoming events will also use this system heavily once implemented.
It is a slow process that requires a lot of input and alteration to the current NPC's, we are also trying to define the scope of what can be done immediately and what can be done to refine this system in the future.
But it is a project that is a priority on this PW.

S-seriously? That's badass.. Actual, maintainable reputations with NPC factions, based on your RP achievements. So beautiful.

Re: Villain for rent ...
One thing we did on another server before hand with players and mobs that would aggro him did, was have the RP session with evil character there at the site of confrontation then he would walk away leaving his minions or retreating to fight another day while the monsters held the good'doers at bay, that way the monsters wouldn't aggro him and the good/evil rp value was still there
, though excited for the faction system hope it comes out great
