First Name: Starkad
Last Name: None, forsaken as he left his clan

Appearance:

Well aged, a bit beyond his prime. He is armored in heavy metal plates and chain from the waist down, his chest is bare covered with tatooes of Dragons and Daemons in blue. He carries vicious scars on him, most notably one across his entire chest that he got from a troll and another on his back that obscures a dwarven runic text, originally "BORN TO DIE" but now barely readable. The most striking feature however is his dyed Orange Mohawk, and stylished beard decorated with gold jewelry. That hairstyle is held up by pig grease, and together with a lack of hygiene and dried blood and ale respectively, it serves to give him a foul odour that often keeps others away.

Having taken the Slayer oath, he is a psychotic death-questing dwarf, who is getting increasingly more frustrated as his age is slowly taking a toll. Proud, fearless and uncomfortable in social dealings, he prefers to be miserable alone in the wild dulling his inner pain with tremendous amounts of alcohol.

Background:

Starkad used to be a tunnel warrior many miles below ground, and at a few occassions he was part of a protecting force of a dwarven trade caravan reaching the outer parts of the Underdark. Eventually, his prowess and hardiness got him promoted to a captain over a dozen warriors, and he distinguished himself in the many battles against Orcs, Goblins and Duergars in the tunnels to finally get promoted to join the Clan chieftain's personal bodyguard force.

Skirmishes were fought and honor gained over the course of a year, when the Chieftain's force was ambushed by a large Orcish Warparty as they were returning home from the razing of one of their villages. Many Tanarukks was part of the horde, and their prowess was fiercily matched by the elite dwarven warriors. Numbers began to tell, and the dwarves where slowly wittled down. A particular large Tanarukk raised his massive warmace against the Chieftain, but Starkad reacted in the last second and interepted the blow. The impact slammed home and sent him flying across the cavern floor, ribs cracked. As he got up, he saw the Tanarukk crush the Chieftain's head into a bloody pulp, despite the adamantine war-helmet on his head. The Tanarukk was taken down by a fellow dwarf warrior, and eventually the Orcish horde was turned away with quite a few losses on both sides.

Starkad isolated himself and did not speak for days. A single year had passed since he joined the force, and already the Chieftain was dead despite their oaths of protection. It was a disgrace, his loss of face complete. He felt worse knowing that he could have dealt with the Tanarukk personally had he been more alert and reacted quicker to the threat. He felt an incredible loss of honor, and as he rejoined his brothers he did not do so to come back, but rather to inform the Bodyguard leader that he was forsaking his clan, his position, and his equipment save his axe. He left the clan a failure, a betrayer, forever marked as such, and journeyed to the surface. This was a battlefield he was not accustomed to, but it would have to do. As the first rays of sun of his life hit him, he swore the Slayer Oath...

Goals:

Since entering the lands of Baldurs Gate, Starkad has gradually earned himself the title of Daemon Slayer, and have met many other Slayers in his way. He have tutored these in the art of monster-slaying, and is now seen as a leader of sorts among the nomadic group. Ultimately, Starkad's goal is to find a worthy death by a powerful foe, which he has yet to succeed at despite facing two large Daemon Lords, of which he carries tooths from.

Meanwhile, Starkad is occupied aiding Chieftain Korgoth Ironfaar, while travelling the lands cursing and embittered by his lack of success in his quest for death.

Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:

Despite two Daemonic Lords, Starkad has come really close to his goal one other time, when faced by an innumerable horde of powerful Undead Warriors. Charging in with his closest friend Toinus, also a Slayer, to hold the tide of undead at bay he was however robbed of this most worthy death by meddling Candlekeep Mage Wendel Ashby . The mage teleported them away to safety, despite their wishes. Starkad holds a grudge like nothing else towards this mage ever since, which has grown to include the entire Candlekeep faction whom he sees as agents of cowardice and ill intent.
