Habits/Hobbies: Grog enjoys trying new foods. These may be parts of monsters or animals he slays and then cooks. He loves meats of all kinds, his favorite being Black Dragon Jerky. He has a love of battle and enjoys running headlong into hordes of enemies. He has a keen sense of smell allowing him to detect enemies from far off occasionally as well as friends when they are nearby. Grog has a rather unique way of fighting, his great strength allows him to wield a huge greatsword in each hand which he refers to as 'smashin'.
Languages: Grog speaks Common and Orcish.
Weapon of Choice: Grog wields two huge greatswords that are taller than most humans. Both are ornate and magically enhanced.
Background: Grog was born of an enslaved human woman and the chieftain of a small orc tribe near the Spine of the World. Though his mother had no hope of escape and was treated roughly by the chieftain, who had many wives, she still loved Grog as only a mother could. As Grog grew up he was often the target of bullying by orcs and slaves alike in the tribe. He was forced to fight and learn the ways of war while living with the tribe. And so Grog grew bigger... and bigger. He soon towered over even other orcs his own age and was able to lift the heaviest weapons with ease.
Grog's family was not a friendly one however, Grogs father and older orc brothers often led raids against humans, elves and any of the other more peaceful races they could find. They were savage killing all but the women whom they took as slaves to the tribe. Perhaps it was Grogs humanity peeking through his hardened green skin, but he did not enjoy fighting the other races and abhorred the killing of innocents. He shyed away when asked to execute men who were defenceless, and his father took notice having him whipped and worse for his weakness as he saw it.
Eventually, as Grogs orc tribe became larger and stronger they came to attract the attention of a rival tribe, much much larger than Grog's own. A tribe that included many Gruumsh worshippers and powerful shaman.
The opposing tribe led a night raid against them and in a single night, Grog's world was shattered. His mighty chieftain father was cut down in his sleep, as were his older half-brothers. Eventually the camp was roused and the tribe took to arms against the invaders. Grog barely survived the battle and lost his right eye to the tip of orcish spear. He believed his mother to be dead as well and escaped into the night, throwing a dirty bandage of cloth around his head to cover the wound. Grog was alone now for the first time in his life, with nowhere to go.
He moved south, slowly at first but gaining speed. Anger at the loss of his mother but feeling nothing but emptiness towards his father and half brothers, Grog roamed the countryside, using his great strength and small bit of survival skill to keep himself safe and find food.
Eventually he arrived in the Sword Coast, near to Baldur's Gate.
Goals: Grog has never had any education of any sort besides the ways of orcish war. He has a desire to learn how to read the books he finds and collects, he enjoys looking through them especially the ones with pictures. He is constantly fighting against more dangerous opponents and believes this will make him the strong, one day he hopes to test himself against a truly powerful foe.
Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts: Grog recently sold off the majority of his books to a scholor from Candlekeep who mentioned he could teach Grog how to read sometime in the future. Though Grog is chaotic neutral due to his upbringing and previous lack of any friendships, as he has spent more and more time along the Sword Coast track, he has met many friends. He does not wish to fight against the fair races but if pushed 'over the edge' his inner berserking orc may come out to defend himself or those he holds dear. Being prejudiced against on an almost daily basis (sometimes he realizes these prejudices sometimes not due to his low intelligence), this day may come sooner. I see his alignment shifting more towards a chaotic good however in the long run. Grog also never actually found the body of his mother and only assumed she was killed, she may still be out there alive somewhere.
