Background: [Summary] Torgan was brought up in a small clan of Gold dwarves numbering no more than 10 members in the community. The clan was different from normal dwarven clans as they were only focused on mining and trading and shunned actual combat, they did however practice a form of non-lethal pugilism which was used for entertainment and contests. Torgan however was very obviously a Shield dwarf, who revelled in combat and general rowdiness. He was not interest in craftsmanship or trading and instead was interested in martial training and fighting. Time passed and Torgan wondered about his origins, he had assumed that he was adopted being a different race to the rest of his clan, however whenever the subject came up his questions were brushed aside with the reasoning that he was too young and immature to understand. Frustrated by this Torgan took to wandering alone and generally shunning contact with his clan members and anyone else who he might happen to meet. It was returning from one of these sojourns that he could see smoke rising from the mining compound. Rushing back he arrived to find the clan slain and most of the goods looted. Scattered around were numerous goblin corpses along with some sort of giant spider which it seems were been riden as a sort of goblin steed. Grabbing a mining axe he ventured further down into the mine looking for survivors when out of the blackness he was seized in the mandibles of one of these steed spiders which attempted to poison and subdue him This was a mistake. Filled with rage and knowing his adoptive kin were dead he shrugged of the poison in typical dwarven fashion and unleashed a furious rage of vengeance on the monsters raining a flurry of blows - both axe and fist culminating in taking the spiders head in a final sweep of his axe. Still filled with anger he threw his only weapon against the wall in rage where it promptly shattered. He spent the next week or so burying his kin in the correct dwarven fashion before gathering up what little wealth remained and heading off to seek his fortune in the city of Baldur's Gate.
Goals: To find his true clan, to find a strong worthy figure to follow and serve, to excel and improve his combat skills, to becomes a Kings Bodyguard. To discover the goblin clan of spider riders and deliver righteous vengeance and furious anger upon them.
Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts: He is somewhat slow on the subtleties of life and will often respond to deep questions or convoluted arguments with an "Eh?" or a grunt. He can be (but not always) foolhardy in combat situations often charging ahead into overly dangerous situations. He has a very low Cha and this is reflected in his general demeanour. He is not particularly friendly and his responses can easily come across as short or rude unless he takes time to consider what he is saying. He has no desire to be a leader, he is naturally inclined to be a follower and is currently seeking a strong figure to follow (a respectable Dwarven King currently) and hopes to be able to form part of the Kings bodyguard. In pure combat situations then he can obviously impress and gain respect but as a pure personality his natural follower tendencies and his natural ability to be social awkward can hinder him. What also doesn't help is that he realises this and doesn’t particularly care. He also has a desire to discover his true clan name, however how to do this is slightly beyond him as he has very little in the way of clues to go on.
