Template For Character Creation Reward:
First Name: Kamau
Last Name: --
Appearance: With a dark complexion offset by shockingly white hair, Kamau stands out in most places. The near-sighted have occasionally mistaken him for a Drow from a distance. Trophies from his past hunts adorn his armor and two small swords hang at his sides. He walks with careful deliberation.
Race: Human
Age: 34
Height 5'10"
Weight: 170 lbs.
Eyes: Blue
Hair: White
Facial Hair Style: --
Personality Profile: Though Kamau tends to keep his thoughts to himself most of the time, when the hunt begins he is not only vocal, but fearless to the point some might consider him suicidal. He lives for the thrill of the hunt and if there is something that needs to be slain, he won't hesitate to volunteer.
General Health: Physically fit and of sane mind (by his standards), much of his body also contains a number of superficial scars
Deity: Ubtao
Initial Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Profession: Dragon Slayer, Big Game Hunter
Base Class & Proposed Development: Ranger (23), Dragon Slayer (7)
Habits/Hobbies: Kamau spends most of his time around whatever he is currently hunting. He does this not simply to learn its habits so that he might kill it more easily, but to learn how to be like what he hunts. He believes that each beast he hunts has some beneficial knowledge to confer to the hunter, with the ultimate hunt being that of a dragon.
Languages: Common, Chultan, Draconic (I figure I can RP into this one eventually)
Weapon of Choice: Short Sword
Background:
General
To say that Kamau was a troublemaker in his youth would be an understatement. By the time he had reached the age of thirteen, he had narrowly avoided being eaten by some large jungle beast at least twenty times. After the twentieth, the other members of his tribe stopped counting and just kept their eyes on Kamau at all times. Generally growing up in the jungles of Chult instills one with a certain sense of impending doom, but for Kamau, it only instilled him with a sense of impending adventure.
Of course this is not to say that Kamau avoided danger entirely; in fact he was frequently injured--whether from falling out of a tree or brawling with a batiri. Kamau has enough stories about his defeat at the hands of something as small as a newt as he does victories on his hunts. For Kamau, however, even the defeats are important. Each failure or triumph brings new knowledge that he can use on a future hunt. So long as he survives, he will live to hunt again.
Sleeping Dragons
In the third month of his twentieth year, Kamau was tracking a tabaxi hunter intending to learn something from a race considered by many to create some of the greatest hunters in Chult. At some point, Kamau lost the tabaxi, which was not unusual. Given the great speed and stealth of the tabaxi, Kamau spent most of his time simply finding where he might have been, rather than where he was.
While searching, he stumbled across the crumbling ruins of a large temple hidden beneath the jungle canopy. This too, was not unusual. There were many ruins scattered around Chult built and abandoned by various groups. What Kamau didn't realize was that this particular temple was currently serving as the lair of a particularly annoyed green dragon. For the last month, a number of batiri had been attempting to sneak into the temple and steal from the dragon's hoard.
Kamau cautiously entered the ruins, keeping to the shadows. It was then that he noticed the hulking form of the dragon, apparently asleep. For the first time in his life, Kamau felt fear. His heart raced and he wanted to run, but his limbs had turned to stone. At that precise moment four batiri happened to be in the process of filling their pockets with gold when one of them dropped a large sword. The resulting clanging woke the dragon, who roared defiantly and then unleashed a corrosive cloud of gas, literally melting the batiri. Kamau, still unnoticed behind the dragon suddenly found that his limbs worked again and ran from the ruins. Later he would find that his hair had turned completely white from fear. It serves as a constant reminder of what he considers his biggest failure.
Since his encounter with the green dragon, Kamau has placed dragons at the top of his hunting list. In the years that followed Kamau continued to have many close encounters with dragons, eventually managing to kill a young red dragon with the help of a party of adventurers interested in its treasure. He still seeks dragons to this day and so has journeyed to Baldur's Gate having heard rumors of a recent dragon attack.
Goals: To find and kill the dragon that terrified him so much in his youth; to hunt the most dangerous game
