Background:

The Volintha family is originally from the lands south of the Shining Sea, a chultan turned pirate took his mate away from the peninsula and fled north to the Sword Coast. Setukha was born in a small farming community north of the Marching Mountains, he is the youngest child of eight. Setukha spent most of his young life tilling the lands, raising cattle and mending fences and barns. Every chance he could, he would run off and explore the surrounding lands, teaching himself how to track animals like the hunters did and how to hide from the larger predators.

One dark day when he was 16, a group of well armed bandits rode into town demanding coins and valuables. Setukha was outside the village making his way home when the bandits rode off with not only the communities coins and valuable items but also with his sister. The village elders forbad anyone to take up arms and chase them, the bandits were too well armed and if provoked, they could return and destroy the village. So Setukha left that night and followed the riders.

Fortunately for Setukha, both he and the riders were being shadowed by an old ranger named Merlow. One evening the riders doubled back, having discovered Setukha's presence in an effort to catch and kill him. Before they closed the loop on him, old Merlow stepped in and convinced Setukha to follow him. Once the riders realized their quarry had escaped they returned to the road and rode fast in order to elude whoever was following them but the old ranger was crafty and even while on foot, he and Setukha were able to stay on the trail.

Weeks passed and just as Merlow and Setukha were about to catch up, the riders were cut down by soldiers of Amn who then took the girl and released her in Esmeltaran. It took months for Setukha to learn about his sisters fate, how she was sold into slavery and her new master was a northerner and had long since departed with his slaves and merchandise to parts unknown. Merlow vowed to help the boy and together they continued north, albeit at a slower pace as the old ranger taught the boy the ways of the ranger.

Weeks turned into months and months into years as the two searched Amn for his sister. Eventually age caught up to the old ranger who was struggling to keep up with his young apprentice even on a flat road. Finally, once they learned that his sister was taken north towards Baldur's Gate, they parted ways. Setukha, now a ranger, eagerly walks the wildness heading north to find his sister.

Goals: Find his sister and continue his training.

Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:

Is eagerly looking for anything on his sister but also knows he can't continue the search without coin. At every town or village he stops to help where he can and try to make a little coin in the process before moving on. He gets 'sidetracked' by helping those in need, be it hunting for an old rat or defending a farm from goblins. His last name, Volintha, is not his families real last name, just one they took on after his father and mother fled the Jungles of Chult. Setukha knows nothing of his families old heritage, his father and mother never speak on it and only warn them away from it.

Setukha follows the goddess Selune, which is not normally a ranger deity that I am aware of. The old man who trained him was a follower of Selune, who served the Oracles of the Moon. He was tasked to hunt down and destroy a pack of werewolves and the last one was one of the riders who took Setukha's sister. He tends to keep this to himself, as he knows only what the old man told him about Selune and is fearful that he will be viewed as an oddity or outcast from her orders. His knowledge of Selune is very limited but his faith in her is strong as he prays to her each night when the moon rises.
