First Name: Arwyroe
Last Name: Melten

Appearance:
Arwyroe Melten stands out from the crowd. His toes and his hair line are about 6'5" apart from each other. His body is muscular, without being massy. The man's red hair glows like fire, while his features are well-proportioned. The blue, penetrating eyes of this man will attract everyone's attention quickly because of their artificially strong colouring and because they provide a big contrast to his hair as well.

You are looking in a open and inviting face. He has a smile on his lips more often than not and he also likes to laugh. From time to time there is even something waggish in his eyes, but it is never meant in a maleficent way. His thoughtful gestures and sayings speak of good breeding and noble birth. This man has a big appeal to others. Many women will look after him with more desire than their husbands might like. The voice of the youngling is very pleasant and he is the kind of person being always at the forefront of attention.

Furthermore the beholder will notice that the man is very vain and proud. His haircut is in perfect shape all the time, his eyebrows were apparently recently plucked and his garment reflects the latest fashion trends round young nobles on the Sword Coast. He wears a chain around is neck, which apparently holds an illusion spell: The symbol on the chain is a real-looking female eye, which winks from time to time. Should Arwyroe await bloodshed or if he is attaining any formal purpose, he will wear bright, freshly polished full plate. In the breast area of his armor you can see the an engraving of the beautiful face of the Lady Fireheart. His shield shows a stylized ruby-red rose. In battle he will always wear a helmet. He is capable of using different weapons in combat. Most likely you will see him wield a longsword, a flail or a warhammer.

Race: Aasimar (but he doesn't know it and will probably never find out)

Age: 21

Height 6'5" / 1,95 meters

Weight: 187 lbs / 85 kilos

Eyes: royal blue

Hair: red

Facial Hair Style: none

Personality Profile:
Because Arwyroe is vain, he attaches a lot of importance to his own appearance. People will see him using a pocket mirror to fix his hair more often than not. He tends to speak a lot about fashion, clothing and haircuts. If the appearance of others (especially women) finds his approval, he will not stint on compliments. It is very likely that he will even present a fair maid with a flower just because he likes her looks. Some people will think of him as intrusive, but he will never get bawdy or refuse an appeal to let someone else alone, if asked to do so.

Even though more serious characters will believe him to be airy, Arwyroe has a very strong faith. He loves Sune like only a man can love a woman. If someone acts against her or her portfolio he can be as vengeful as an enraged follower of Hoar. Like his patron goddess, he values love above all. If he comes to know about lovers separated from each other, he will bring them together under all circumstances, even when mortal danger is involved. He will never doubt that love is the (only) meaning of life. He believes one can love several individuals at the same time and that it is no crime to live out this feelings. This applies only if you are honest to everyone involved, of course. Marriage is another matter: It is a holy oath, which shall never be broken. So Arwyroe believes one has love affairs and flirtations until he encounters his “true love”, who is in fact the person he is determined for. Then they marry and have to be faithful for the rest of their life, no matter what happens. So his opinion about adultery will not differ much from the opinion of a Tyrran or a Helmite.

The second most valuable thing in the world to the Aasimar is beauty. He does not think beauty lies in the eye of the beholder, but completely objective and defined by Sune. So he will never care about the opinion of a Non-Sunite about that matter at all, if it differs from his own. Only the opinion of a senior priest or paladin of the Lady Firehair will be considered by him. Because Arwyroe also believes that beauty comes from within, he disdains ugly people. This will not lead to open hostility if the person has not apparently done any evil deeds, however, it will lead to a very degrading form of pity. It also implicates a slightly racist behaviour, because he considers humans and elves more beautiful than other common races. Besides, he tends to be neutral about Drow, because they are normally beautiful, so they can't be that evil.

While serving a chaotic deity, he is not chaotic himself. He tends to see his own dutiful behaviour as typically “male”, while he sees the more chaotic aspects of Sunes doctrine as a result of her being a woman. This leads to another basic believe of him: In fact, he does not take women seriously. He claims to value them highly, but he sees them also as disoriented, naive beings who need the guidance of a men. This is no aspect of his character he is fully aware of, of course. He believes himself to value men and women equally, but he is wrong about that.

Arwyroe feels offended by the refusal of the order of the ruby rose to admit him to membership. However, this never disunited him from his faith, only a bit from the Sunnite church. Because of his pride, he would never try to become a member of this order again, even if there would be a way to do so. In the future he will be unforgiving if any strong insults occur.

Besides being a follower of Sune and promoting love and beauty, Arwyroe is still a paladin. He will follow orders given by superiors without questions and he will risk his life to defend the helpless. He despises followers of deities who are responsible for destroying beautiful things. This does not only apply to many evil deities, but also to some who are considered neutral. Tempus might be a good example, because he is the god of war and war will always bring destruction.

Arwyroe is generally in good shape. He practices fighting regularly. Because he is vain, he will be attentive about what he eats or drinks. He is not, however, cut from the same cloth as dwarven warriors or mighty barbarians.

Background:
Coming from Waterdeep, Arwyroe Melten is a city person by all means. He grew up being the son of lesser noble Sunites. While his mother is a high ranking cleric in the church, his father is a paladin of the order of the ruby heart. He was the result of a short affair, his parents were never married.

He stood most of the time with his mother because his father was often on duty. She is a kind and gentle woman, but also a bit frivolous and irresponsible. She never really took her time to teach Arwyroe where his limits are. He was often allowed to do things other children at his age could only dream of. His father, however, was very different. While he was loving and caring, he was also strict. He didn't accept much opposition and he made his son practising hard and praying much. This may explain his views of the differences between men and women and it also explains the devotion of a lawful aligned man to a chaotic deity.

However, he had a fulfilled childhood and it early became clear, that he was in special favour of Sune. Not only the colour of his hair seems to be the same as her's, he also lives of her teachings. Besides this he showed an aptitude for combat early on. Because he admired his father, who is a gallant and well respected knight, he decided to to become a paladin as well.

At the early age of 20, he was going to become a full member of the order of the ruby rose. One day the Princess of Passion appeared to him trough a vision. She informed Arwyroe about the plan of a wealthy and powerful merchant in Waterdeep to forcefully marry his daughter to the son of a rival, to safeguard piece between their families. His daughter was actually in love with a penniless bard from Tethyr and so her heart was broken by the prospect of marrying another man. Her father was not the sort of man a daughter answers back to, however, so she was going to do it anyway.

So events took their course and after Arwyroe had considered his options, he stormed the temple of Waukeen where the wedding took place. When the priest rhetorically asked if there is anyone in the room who doesn't agree with the “deal” (that's what a Waukeenish marriage is, in the end), Arwyroe openly accused the parents of the bridal pair to be foes of love and even to be associated with evil powers. In the end he was removed by the households guards of the merchants and the wedding was completed, but the rumour about this incident did it's round quickly. Both merchants began to exert pressure on the church of Sune to ban him from duty. In the end, they had no choice but to send him away from Waterdeep. Because he has relatives in Baldur's Gate, he was send there. Another reason is that he wants to find a lost piece of art. One of the clerics of Sune from Waterdeep travelled to Calimshan to get hold of a painting of Sune and Sharess dancing together in the Calimshan, made by a unknown but highly skilled artist. He managed to obtain the precious piece, only to get robbed on his way back when his ship berthed in the Gate. He wandered the harbour streets and some rogues stabbed him in the back and took his belongings. Arwyroe is bent to find the painting because it is said to be of superior beauty.

His superiors sent a letter to the order of the radiant heart and asked them to take Arwyroe into their ranks, as he his destined to be a paladin and to perform great deeds, but the order of the ruby rose cannot afford to have him in their ranks because he angered the wrong men.

Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:
  • To hear about a lost, especially beautiful lost work of art will set him on his way to recover it – Especially if it is related to the painting of Sune and Sharess he is looking for

The chance to get some rare, especially fashionable clothing, jewellery and the like

If he comes to know about people getting married against their will or about lovers separated, he will intervene. No matter what.

Undead. They are not able to love and probably the ugliest beings in the world. He will destroy them with pleasure

The possibility to meet especially beautiful creatures like Nymphs, Avariel or Celestials will strongly attract him

He could be lured into any kind of adventure/ambush by a pretty, innocent looking woman

He is still a paladin, so he will risk his life to help the innocent and weak

He will attend combat tourneys and the like, if everything like that comes up
