Lord Jan van Edelhof seeks Aides-De-Camp

Unread post by Ol' Kel »

__________
Faux-nobleman Jan van Edelhof, of the supposed Edelhof Estate, seeks aides-de-camp to assist him during his stay on the Sword Coast.

__________
'Lord' Jan lets it be known that those willing to enter his service will be obliged to address him by his 'noble' title, by calling him 'sir' or 'my liege'. Furthermore, his aides are to don an azure blue cloak emblazoned with a white star. They are also to sport some hint of gilded yellow in their garments, as per the nobleman's device.
'His Lordship' expresses the desire to recruit inexperienced adventurers into his retinue. As any highborn liege should, he will then purchase the required basic equipment and see to it that his servants are well supplied and disciplined.

Those interested may leave a letter of application with Bentley Mirrorshade at the Friendly Arm Inn, addressed to Lord Jan.

// I am looking for players who are interested in playing a servant to the character (a supposed nobleman) Jan van Edelhof. The idea is to gather a group of people who want to roleplay and venture through the low level areas again. There will be no rush to level up quickly, or any need to grind. We'll take it slow and our aim is to simply have fun!
Your character will receive some basic starting gear and is expected to sport the colours seen in Jan's coat of arms. Aides are recommended to pick a melee or ranged class such as fighter, man-at-arms, rogue, bodyguard, etc.
Think 'medieval soldier and household guard/ servant', when considering your character. Any questions, comments and ideas are welcome!
A great boon to becoming an aide is that your new character will recieve basic starting gear and supplies, a starting salary, initial training and tips, neat wax-sealed orders through forum PMs, and the chance to make a career! (I'm talking to you, future guard captain! ;) )

A new servant or guard will receive:
-a household rank or title
-1000gp initial salary
-a continued salary of 500gp or higher
-a star emblazoned cloak (+5 HP)
-10 light potions of healing (Highstar Healingwater)
-5 bottles of Edelhof Brewery's finest honeymead
-assorted rations
-assorted clothing and miscellaneous equipment
-a bar of soap

While serving Jan, characters are not allowed to go past level 10 (outdated rule). Simply do not level up. This will allow players to stay within level range of each other, ensures you have enough levels to still 'build' your character as you see fit, and keeps plenty of areas (very) challenging so that adventures stay exciting and tough! As you go up in rank your character will be allowed to level up further.

Making a career in Lord Jan's service pays off:
Guardsman / woman ranks:

ImageRank: Recruit - Pay: 500gp - Min level: 1
ImageRank: Guard - Pay: 600gp - Min level: 5
ImageRank: Corporal - Pay: 700gp - Min level: 10

Court Equivalent:
Hidden: show
ImageTitle: Steward - Pay: 800gp - Min level 15

How does one sign up without finding you in-game?
I know not what life is, nor death.
Year in year out-all but a dream.
Both Heaven and Hell are left behind;
I stand in the moonlit dawn,
Free from clouds of attachment.

The custodian behind the bar points out a man sitting by the fireplace. He is feasting on a leg of lamb and quickly finishes up after seeing Jessie by the bar. Jan disposes the remains of his feast in the fire, resulting in a sudden fiery crackle. Then rises from his seat and walks over, all the while dapping his mouth and straightening his moustache.

"Ah, good madam. A fair eve to you. Have you come to make a decision?"

A cadet dressed in immaculately kept garbs belonging to the Citadel of Stratagem Militant approach the lord and offers a hand salute as he comes to attention in front of the Lord Jan:

"Names Williame Blake, sir!
I heard you were looking for able soldiers offering a plenty, sir!
Well, I offer my services until the contract is ended or terminated, sir!"
"Drojal zhah obdoluth dorb'd streeak, Lueth dro zhah zhaunau dorb'd ogglin."
"Existence is empty without chaos, Life is boring without enemies." So sayeth Lady Lolth, Queen of Chaos.

Lord Jan turns his attention from the young farmgirl to that of the cadet.

"Ah, another to enlist? Very good. I could use able soldiers by my side. A great score of the irregular travelling companions I have been with proved incapable and rather brash. An individual with your manners will be a welcome change. Let us draw up a contract and get you ready for duty!"

Jessie seems surprised at the sudden turn of attention, and skips ahead to be at Jan's side, just enough to at least register in his peripheral vision.

"Yes yes lord sir 'Ah reckon I gotta take you up on that there offer of yurs! Duane ain't partial to it but we gotta live, sir, we gotta live!"

And older woman and a large, boyish looking, young man enter Friendly Arm Inn. The woman talks to the barkeep and he points her toward Lord Edelhof.

The woman approaches. "Good Lord, i've heard you are looking for able servants. i would ask about me boy here" she looks over her shoulder and notices her boy, as he is fascinated fondling the stuffed wolf. "Rueben, come over here."

She turns back to Lord Edelhof. "ahh, i would ask, if you are willing to take me boy here in your servitude. He is exceptional strong and won't complain about hard work. He is" she hesistates "not one of the brightest candles and you need to tell him exactly what he should do. But he is a good one, me boy Rueben."

The woman tenses while she waits for a reply, while the young man stares with an open mouth.

His 'lordship' sets himself down on a nearby stool. Then beckons for one of his guards to come closer.

"Please fetch me some parchment, a quill and an inkwell, guardswoman Krisvyre. I would like to draw up several contracts immediatly."

Jan then hands a copy to the farmhand Jessie and the 'special boy' Rueben, smiling all the while.

"You both seem quite able, physically. I have little need for my guardsmen and women to be gifted scholars. You have made a wise choice, servitude to a lord is an excellent career path!"

He looks them both over, the young man in particular, then raises a question.

"You are able to sign your names, yes?"

the young man takes the parchment, looks it over and then he looks questioningly to his mother. As she nods, he scribbles some crude letters on it and hands it back to the Lord.

Happily takes back the contract and looks it over.

"This seems to be in order. Very good, Rueben! We shall get you outfitted as soon as possible."
