Background:

James was born into a family of wealth achieved by less than legitimate means. When he found out where his wealth came from, his parents convinced him it was alright and that this was how all people did things. After years of indulging in his selfish love of the arts and all the niceities his family's wealth brought him, James fell into bad company.

He was ultimately betrayed, kidnapped and tortured until he was rescued by a mystery hero. He cannot remember who it was, but he found himself in the tiny shrine to Ilmater in Balder's Gate and there repented of his ways. James is now quietly commited to his god, not being the outspoken godly type most clerics are but more humble given his sad shameful beginings.

Now in his older years, he feels he can no longer simply repent in prayer but must go out and become a champion for the people, to help shed light, preserve beauty and deliver hope. Whether this calling came from a vision or simple decision he prefers not to say, again being the shy one about his faith.

All this said, James keeps a large stipend of money he has acrued over the years from now more legitimate means of business. He has a refined taste for high fashion clothing, ornate armor and fancy weaponry and is an avid patron of the arts. His favorite hobby is painting, at which he is exceptional.

James has a high sense of grooming, keeps immpecably clean and treats everyone he meets with the grace and dignity of a noble.
