Background:
Omar was born to the nomadic Mu’awiya tribe in the desert sands of Calimshan. He grew up in an environment where family, kin, and tribe are taught to be the most important things in life.

In the desert, life is spent migrating from one waterhole to another. Because of this lifestyle the tribe relies heavily on Istishia, God of water and travel.
When Omar was born, he was selected to be a Provider of the Mu’awiya. The Providers are the elite warriors of the Mu’awiya. A baby is chosen to be a Provider based on visions by tribal elders, omens, and the physical attributes of the baby at birth. Omar was one of only three babies during the year of his birth to be selected to become a Provider. At the age of five, Omar was separated from the rest of the youth and placed into the School of Provision where the chosen are trained to become Providers. From that time forth his life was dedicated to his people.

He was immediately thrust into his intensive training to prepare him for his future duties. When full-scale combat erupts between tribes, Providers lead the men of the Mu’awiya into battle. From a young age they are conditioned to be disciplined, trained and proficient in the art of combat. Providers are expert trackers, and can remain camouflage while travelling across the open sands. Desert survival skills are honed to near perfection through harsh conditioning and training, allowing Providers to survive for weeks at a time in small groups or alone with little or no resources. With such a focused skillset, Providers are the Mu’awiya task force to scout for water and enemies. Their duties are paramount for the continuing growth and survival of the tribe. They live a covenant of celibacy until the elders release them from their duty and choose a wife for them.

Throughout his youth the virtues of honor, personal courage, duty, integrity, selfless service, loyalty, and complete devotion were engrained into the fiber of Omar’s being. When not being tutored in the arts of war and survival, he was taught the lore and history of the Mu’awiya. The students of the School of Provision would listen to the elders orate reason and wisdom in the form of ideas, stories, and history- all of which were designed to increase their devotion to the tribe.

When Omar turned twelve years old his father became an elder. When Omar was eighteen he completed his training at the School of Provision and became a Provider of the Mu’awiya, joining the ranks of one of the deadliest fighting forces in the desert.
When Omar was 24, the Mu’awiya were struggling against the powerful Kuraish tribe. Many of the battles had become costly. In order to defeat the Kuraish, the Mu’awiya and the Mu’minin tribes combined together. Since Mu’awiya was the bigger tribe, the Mu’minin took on the name Mu’awiya and were adopted into the tribe. With a massive addition to their fighting force the Mu’awiya were able to stand against the Kuraish.

When the two tribes first combined together there was friction as they assimilated to each other. Omar heard one of the young men from the Mu’minin, named Khalid, talking ill of his father because he didn’t think he deserved to be the next chief but that his own father should be. Omar confronted him about it to protect his father’s honor. Heated words ensued. Omar left after Khalid called his father a dog, and in his anger gathered a few young men to fight and protect his father’s honor. They surprise attacked Khalid and a group of his friends and a sword fight ensued. It lasted less than a minute because others around stopped the bloodshed. However, it was enough time for several of the young men to die.

A tribunal was held to discover the cause of the violence. During the tribunal the elders decided that the conflict was Omar’s fault because he had instigated the bloodshed. As a consequence, he was banished from the tribe and sentenced to return only when he received a vision telling him his banishment was over.

Suffering extreme heartbreak and shame, Omar left the tribe he dedicated his life to serve, provide for, and protect. Leaving the desert, he found himself in the lands surrounding Baldur’s Gate.

Goals:
Omar only wants to endure his time outside of the desert until his banishment ends. He focuses on continuing to hone his skills so that when he returns he will be a greater asset to his people.

Understanding Omar:
Because Omar spent his whole life believing in the greatness of his tribe he has a tendency to look down on most people he meets. Because of his upbringing he believes the way of the Mu’awiya is superior to anything else. His love is primarily for the people of his tribe, thus Omar feels no need or inclination to help those not of the Mu’awiya. This makes him appear cold, rude, or uncaring to many people he meets. He sees his time outside of the desert as temporary so he doesn’t try as hard to befriend people. However, because of the fierce qualities of his loyalty, those who manage to make him a friend know that he will do anything for them and feel safe at his side.
