Background: Hailing form the bitter northern mountains of Ruathym, Geir's tribe affiliates themselves as a minor tribe of Utghar. The major tribes of course being the eleven beasts that Uthgar slew and absorbed the aspects of their spirits. Geir grew under the guiding hand of his father, the blacksmith of the clan, were he learned how to forge Uthgardtian steel. It was here that he trained his body, becoming the massive barbarian he is today. But the blacksmithing skill was not the only thing Geir's father thought him, for you see any man of the ages twenty to fifty contribute to the tribe Warband. These men actively seek out danger, quell invasions and raid for resources. Although his father did not hold any ranks or titles he was still a fierce warrior for the clan and his weapon was that of Uthgar, a mighty two handed axe. When Geir came of age his father thought him the ways of Uthgar and every dawn they practiced the martial ways of the battleaxe. To this day Geir recalls his fathers sagely words on the morning of their very first practice

"Lo there young warrior, a man of steel must practice his art as any artisan hones his craft. At dawn we draw steel, at noon we forge blades and at dusk we praise Uthgar with ale and song and blood. This is the way of the Vanier my son, and the way of Uthgar." - Olaf Vanier

One faithful night the old bone reader, Freyja, visited the village of the Timmer Varg from her hermetic yurt out in the woods. She brought with her dire news as proclaimed by the bones that the tribes of Uthgar were coming to and end and only a man, not of the kin of the Timmer Varg, must seek a witch to quell the coming danger. She warned the Jarl that he had until the warming mists of spring to choose such a man, but no one would volunteer for you see Uthgardt's hold a profound paranoid of witchcraft believing it to be an unnatural abomination and that a mans very soul can become corrupted by being in its presence.
As the months drew on the tribe found iteself in dire straights. Raiding parties of black-skinned orcs ruined many villages along the belt of the "High Mountain" and even worse the giant king Yodermurth began to encroach further and further into Timmer Varg territory. With so many threats the clan warband dropped to half its strength and it was time that the youth of the Timmer Varg completed their rite of passage to join their ancestors as warriors of the clan. To do so the youth formed a warband of their own and the Jarl set for them a task of simplicity, Geir was among the youth and thier task was to scout the southern boarder for orcish threats. But as Geir grew in physique and power, so did he grow arrogant and brash. In the warband's efforts to scout the boarder Geir made the decision to split the warband, to send their strongest to fight a small roaming band of orcs whilst the others returned to the village with word of their findings. But in his brash attempt at glory he only found defeat. the orcs captured the arrogant youth and the five young warriors with him. In the coming weeks they caged them, beat them and ate them, but word had reached the Jarl's ear and he sent forth what few men he had remaining to seek out the Orcs and rescue the youths. When all was said and done one youth remained, Geir was brought before the Jarl at the longhouse. It was here that the old soothsayer deemed Gier unworthy of the title "warrior" and he was striped of his clans name. Geir was devastated, and to ensure his banishment they arranged for the young barbarian a boat to sail to llusken were he would live the rest of his days as a brigand. Indeed, the few weeks Geir spent there were life changing for llusken is a dangerous place full of outlaws and swift thinking rouges. Geir devolved a keen eye for objects of history, and an even keener eye for hordes and treasure. One night, in a pirate filled tavern a man approached him swathed in wolf furs. The Jarl had made a trip to llusken to speak with the young warrior, for as the prophecy foretold only a man not of their kin must seek a witch to save thier clan. He could tell that Geir had changed, perhaps still arrogant but his time spent encaged and banished had given him perspective and indeed he had matured. The Jarl gave Geir a chance to redeem himself, that if he found the witch then his banishment would be lifted for he knew the passion of the young Uthgardt and his desire to return again as a clansmen. His words ever engraved in Geirs heart.

"Technicality is a thing for witches and bone readers and soothsayers, let them say you are not a warrior of the Timmer Varg. As for me, young warrior, you are my kin." Jarl Fafnir Wulfgar.

With his mission Geir traveled the breath of the Sword Sea in search of a witch who may yet spare his clan the offal prediction of the bone-reader.
