Appearance:
Tall for a Deep Gnome, Mandragore thinks he is even taller. He swaggers about as if he owns whatever location he is currently in and holds his considerably sized nose aloft (often by necessity as he is looking up to talk to people). His clothes are the most garish and outlandish you might see on one of his race, a riot of colours and styles which he maintains are 'fashionable'. His hair is black and neatly braided. He has a small double goatee beard. Finally, his skin is dark and he has a white tribal tattoo on his face.

Personality Profile:
Mandragore has an ego enormously out of proportion with his size and talents (at least for the moment). He maintains that he is a great magician and high-born noble of the deep gnomes, though no-one seems to have heard of him, and also that he is the fastest, the nimblest (etc) of his race that you will ever see. He always tries to show off with his clothing and demeanour, and will comment on the style choices of others whether they wish to know his opinion or not. When speaking he over-embellishes everything, and flourishes with his hands as if he were in some grand play. He introduces himself rather pompously as 'Mandragore the Magnificent'.

Telling everyone about his heroic escapades, especially if he can draw a crowd, using magical pyrotechnics to embellish his points.

Background:
In fact although no-one knows who he is or where he came from, it is possible that his story of being a gnomish noble or leader of some sort is true. His boastful embellishments would seem to make this unlikely however. There is also the slight issue that he claims to be able to amaze and delight people with his wondrous magics, though as yet he seems to have little magical power except for the simple spells all his kin can cast. His explanation for this is that he has 'forgotten' his talents but he is working hard to regain them. He has also forgotten how he came to forget!

A more likely explanation is that he has a form of delusional insanity. However, if he is insufferable now, what will he be like if he ever 'regains his Magnificence'??



Goals:
He has one simple goal in life, to elevate himself to the highest position he possibly can where everyone will be able to benefit from his 'considerable' talents. He cares more about status than true power but if he can have both then so much the better. He does not particularly care how he gets there and will choose the best strategy for the moment, whether that is allying himself with those who could advance his cause or effecting the fall of a rival.


Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:

Perhaps there is some truth to his back story - if so, why is he so far from home? Were there some who wanted to do away with him? Now that he is in Sshamath, his opportunistic nature may make him useful to any drow house that would wish to use his talents.
