And tells the story of Johan Amerake to his nearby audience, recalling details of the gruesome struggle between the early Tethyrian humans and the Elves who live in its forests.

"Luys Miguel Pendrake: You wish to hear another story?"

Ambrose Valexus: *he nods on the positive and carefully props his hat on his lap*

Luys Miguel Pendrake: Very well - this one also comes from the histories
Laura Shelse: "Er..."

"It is the account of Johan Amarake of Tethyr"
"On his people's bloody war with the Elves of the forest"
"Johan is long dead now, his tale is hundreds of years old - but it still widely remembered in Amn and indeed, Tethyr itself."

Ickabod Jadegate: "wow"

"It al began seven hundred years ago"
"At that time most of the Human settlements you know did not even exist and the forests of the world spread wide and far."

"It was around this time that the first human inhabitants of Tethyr arrived at their future home. By our standards they were nothing more than barbarians, understanding not hygiene, sanitation or polite discourse."
"The place they chose to make their home was not soley theirs however. The wide forests it bordered on were claimed by the Elves. It encompassed entire Kingdoms in the trees
But, seeing our ancestors as simple barbarians the Mighty Elves felt not threatened."

"Instead - they ignored the humans. Offering help and trade only as it suited them."
"The Tehtyrians quickly learned however, and while they could not match the splendor of the forest kingdoms - their villages soon grew into cities."
"Sewer systems were invented, as well as bath houses. Mages went to study with the Elves and learn from them. Bronze weapons made way for Iron - and soon even Steel
In the span of just fifty years Tethyr and its people changed."

"It was then that Johan Amerake was born to Tethyr, During his life he was a woodsman.........And all was not well in Tethyr."

"For the Elves had grown fearfull of the Tethyrian presence on their borders. What they had seen as a harmless band of human barbarians was turning into a mighty Kingdom!"
"Lumberjacks, huntsment and woodmen were dangerous professions. The animals in the forest often spurred on by their Elven masters to attack the human in the woods.
So bitter did this rivalry grow that at one point an entire settlement of Lumberjacks, wives and children were butchered by the Elves for cutting wood."

"Mages no then longer went to study at the feet of their Elven neighbours and trade between Human and Elf came to a stop."
"The Tethyrians were scared witless, unable to decide how to react to the slaughter of the innocent lumberjacks and their families.
For they could not possibly defeat the Elven Kingdoms, mighty as they were -- no?"

"In that hour of despair they elected the huntsman Johan to be their leader - a fateful decision as it would turn out."
"For Johan had walked the forest for his entire life - he knew of the Elves and their might, but also of how to stay away from their prying eyes...."
"And so Johan formed his people into groups and set them to tasks. They would live in places away from the forest and go there only by day, in overwhelming force."
"The Huntsman and Woodsman were formed into bands of irregulars who were a match even for Elven Scouts."
"For though the casualties in those bands were high, there were far more humans than Elves to take the place of the lost ones."
"And so, little by little the people of Tethyr threw of the joke of their Elven overlords
And to this day, there is no more bitter rivalry you will find between man and Elf - than in Tethyr."

"Nor a name so reviled by one and lauded by the other side - as Johan's"

"And so: Always be wary of the Elves."
