As the sun works it's way towards the horizon, several folks conduct their business with the consignment merchant, safely within the grounds of the Friendly Arm Inn. Suddenly an urgent horn blows to the east of the inn, and soon after the faint sounds of battle can be heard by those within the safety of the walls, causing them to stir to attention.

Though it is clear that battle rages to the east, few are eager to leave the refuge of the inn's walls to lend a hand. Aid is considered, of course, if the pay is adequate, though the guards present clearly have little sway. Eventually, as the battle draws nearer, several guards leave the grounds, though none return, and the adventurers begin to consider their options. The sounds of dying men will do that. Finally, just as the battle seems to be turning for the worse, a large force of friendly reinforcements arrives outside. Cautiously, they venture outside to greet their new allies and inquire about the enemies. Even those still uncertain of pay for their involvement.

With the arrival of reinforcements, the defenders have considerable strength but lack leadership. As soon as the first wave of orcs swarm, any semblance of order is lost and the battle immediately becomes chaotic. Orcs and defenders fall at a similar rate, blood coating the moist grass outside the inn, making it treacherously slippery. The rash and overly confident are the first to fall, crude orcish weapons rending their flesh with horrible precision. Fortunately, the orcs are dismembered equally well by the brave and determined defenders, the ground soon littered with their body parts.

By the time Flaming Fist reinforcements arrive to chase off the last of the orcs, the battlefield is a grisly scene of severed limbs and blood, most of the defenders ashen faced by what they have witnessed.

And yet, despite what they have encountered, many volunteer to continue their aid against the orcs, no matter the cost, suppressing the images of horror. The Fist, late in their arrival to the battle, are happy to accept any support offered against the orcish horde, and proceed to dole out a pittance to those that defended the Inn. Fortunately, many brave adventurers are well sated with a meager reward and a pat on the back, or are perhaps too shaken to act differently.
