Crossing The Border (Part 1 of this arc is finished)

Day 1: Reports have come in mentioning a substantial increase in Drider activity in the tunnels, eyewitnesses say that the Driders may have formed into clans and follow a common leader.

Day 2: The Charnag Maelthra receives a letter from one of the clan leaders, its content known only to the Charnag and the Conclave.

Day 3: An expedition is seen heading out of Sshamath, consisting of Elite members of the Charnag and other skilled warriors and wizards.

Day 4: No news

Day 5: The expedition returns with no news, at least nothing that becomes public knowledge.

A stranger sends out a message through hidden channels, searching for local mercenaries and adventurers for a scouting mission. The specific details will be given after having accepted and agreed upon the terms given by the employer.

Terms of agreement

- Each mercenary will get awarded three-thousand-five-hundred gold coins upon successfully completing the task.

- Will hire no more than four mercenaries, as more is likely to attract too much attention and is unnecessary considering it will be about retrieving information, not battle.

- The mercenaries are welcome to any treasure they might come across, though the employer wants a peek at every magical item found first.

News and information such as this is daily bread to Xercia Dantress. Her eyes and ears in the city made sure she receives the information with as much detail and as soon as possible. She was pointed out to the individual and task ready, she found him/her in the streets of Sshamath. Upon approaching, she said:

The call for people to 'scout' is all the information Nawiel needed to word her interest in the task. That, and the possibility of actually seeing a Drider up close for the first time is just too good an oportunity to miss. It takes her some time to figure out which official she should see about the assignment, as it is not something that gossip usually include, seeing as facts make for poor tavern talk. Never-the-less, her name is soon on the list of candidates.

Keeping an ear and half an eye open whilst lazing in the Gloura's Wings, Izzrar slowly develops an inkling that something unusual has happened, the stifled whispers and drawn faces of some of the guards pique his curiosity and he heads out towards the bazaar and then the stonestave looking for any information he can glean.

Once informed by Izzrar, among others, of the situation, Guilhem dispatches a trusted messenger to the Stonestave with a sealed missive for the Conclave. He also asks his associate Alienor to alert the two operatives she has recently been evaluating for recruitment into the elite mercenary group known as Bregan D'aerthe. The two jalils, Cyrithe and Szark have proved quite promising according to the Azure Lady.

In addition, after a brief frown, Guilhem instructs his Imaskari steward to use a magical Sending to his 'relation' the whimsical male Arnaut to stand ready for action on behalf of Bregan D'aerthe.

((I cannot, as of this moment, vouch for the availability of either Szark or Cyrithe. I can attend to the mission with my own character, Arnaut, who is in the required character range. I will get in touch with the players behind the two prospective Bregan D'aerthe agents in-game as soon as I am able to have them explicitly state their interest and availability (or the lack thereof) for the mission in question. If either or both of the players wish to participate, I will yield Arnaut's place to one of them. Otherwise, count Arnaut in.))

Szark is not a mercenary. She is a spy. A spy that happens to be better than most at pulling the strings of her duergar-crafted Bone crusher longbow. She has been looking for a way to fit into the many factions of Sshamath and has yet to find her niche. This sort of task is something she feels she could really shine at. Szark is available and interested especially if the battle-proven Jalil Cyrithe is involved. But Szark understands the group of four may already be assembled and, being calm and patient, is willing to wait for the right opportunity whether it be this assignment or some other one.

Cyrithe hears from several sources about the expedition and expresses her interest in attending. Realizing there is likely a queue for such a hunt, she makes a point to show patience and understanding in the matter. She also expects her hunting companion, the jalil Szark, to be interested in the task. To this effect, she purchases extra quivers for the hunt, as many arrows find flesh when the jalils are together.

Cyrithe will be available should the employer select her.

Chalithra listens to her sister Nawiel with concern. She decides that she will help, but only because to help her sister not because she is interested in the matters of the conclave.

Sussuri playfully ruffled Winter's fur as he watched from the shadows.

Now this might be fun, he thought.

The faern of Baendar is seated behind his desk when a servant approaches him with a piece of correspondence. Cal takes the letter and dismisses the servant. Opening the letter, Cal reads about the scouting mission and reviews the terms of agreement. Confident in his ability to hide in the shadows and move unseen with the aid of arcana, Cal debates the idea of going.

"Aberrant Abominations.. They would become a threat to the city if there is truly a leader uniting them. And the fools will fail in the scouting mission without arcane assistance.. Xas.. Usstan will have to go in order to make sure the mission is successful."

Cal summons the servant to deliver his letter of interest and acceptance of terms to the employer.

Word is leaked that certain factions are showing a great deal of interest in the current state of affairs surrounding the drider insurgence. Rumours say the reclusive jaluk Izzrar Hun'ep will equal the payment offered to mercenaries by any benefactors, for first hand accounts of their tales before the conclave censors and controls what information is leaked out. Whether the rumours have any truth is unclear, as no-one seems to have heard this first hand from the said jaluk.
