It is rumored that another meeting took place between the Ebon Blade Captain, his associate Vaelen and Mag.

The trio talked about the defenses of the tent town, and it appeared as if an agreement was reached about the Soubar's ruined 'ramparts'. Namely, the mercenary company was given Mag's permission to launch a project of patching the remaining walls.

The de facto ruler of Soubar left the responsibility of finding workers and resources to the mercenaries, but she promised to contact an acquaintance of hers who is rumored to be an architect or an engineer of sorts in regards to the construction of simple watchtowers.

What will come out of this endeavor remains to be seen.

The village of Tymount has been attacked by trolls, driven forward by a force of devils. The creatures were intercepted, however, by an assembly of adventurers led by the Order of the Radiant Heart. The villagers were evacuated to Baldur's Gate and many trolls and devils slain.

It is rumored that the efforts of the Ebon Blade Mercenary Company toward rebuilding the Soubar's Militia are well underway. Sergeant Harlos Lackman, who seems to be in charge of the recruitment and training, has been seen talking with Mag and pestering the locals with the offer of coin and training.

On a different note, the whole company amassed in front of their Keep early in the morning the other day and soon disappeared in the bright flash. Witnesses claimed that hours later the band teleported back atop of their tower and that the lights flashed twice this time. Some mentioned that crying and lament of women accompanied them.

Having heard from a few sources similar tales about how the residents and travelers to and from Soubar were being chased, questioned, threatened and harassed by some of the Gate-bound factions, Mag decided to investigate these curious rumors. Resolved to get to the bottom of this, she spoke with her usual contacts among the merchants, the locals and even some of the travelers passing through her tavern. Coin, drinks and even a free bowl of soup were offered to those who were willing to talk, and she would still be willing to listen to whoever came forward with any relevant information.

While the bigger picture was yet to be painted, the leader of Soubar knew that some steps had to be taken.

Earlier today Mag could have been seen hunched over her bar's counter with a quill in one hand, a drink in the other, and a look of somewhat grim determination playing on her features. It took a while before she finished drafting a few missives, each sealed with the same white wax bearing the same simple seal. After a moment of consideration, Soubar's leader divided the letters into two piles. In silence and without hurry, she finished her drink, looked to the doe-eyed barmaid and beckoned her closer.

"Find Finnegan and have him deliver these," she pointed to pile on the left. "Pay him the usual fee," a hefty pouch found its way onto the counter. "Once that is done, fetch Mr. Resnik. I'll be needing his services for the other messages."

Late in the evening Mag summoned the merchants and many of the locals into her tavern. When all the tankards were filled with ale, the leader of Soubar addressed the crowd.

"I've struck a deal with the Zhentarim. The trade ban that took the Black Network's caravans on bypass has been lifted. From this day onward their traders will be coming to do business in Soubar once more," Mag's attention leveled on the merchants. "That also means that the Corm Orp market has opened for you as well as long as you follow the Zhentarim law while on their land. Moreso, in the coming days, Zhentarim camp will be erected in Soubar. Their forces will be stationed here for the remainder of the war against the Devils in Dragonspear. They vowed not to bother us, not to meddle in our business and the same courtesy will be extended to them," with a narrowed gaze Soubar's leader glared about. "They are not to be interfered with. Keep in mind that Black Network's presence should work in our favor as a counterbalance toward the Gatelings and other do-gooders that have recently been coming into our town."

She paused waiting for the crowd to digest the news before speaking again. "This is a change for the better, ye ken? There will be more work, more coin flowing into your pockets and more opportunities. Make use of it."

March of the Zhentilar

Zhentarim scouts, bearing the accents of the Moonsea itself, arrive at Corm Orp to reinforce the outpost there.

The Zhentarim peg out an area for a camp for a larger number of troops, and also hire a dwelling within Corm Orp to act as a command post. It is said locally that these are the vanguard of two full companies of Zhentilar, the vaunted Black Lightning company and the redoubtable Loyal Hammer company, with slave auxiliaries. The destination of these troops is not known, beyond that some of them are likely to be deployed, with consent, in Soubar.

Zhentilar tents are seen erected north of Corm Orp as the first units of the Black Lightning company set up camp. Much of their gear is left stowed, indicating they are likely to be marching on soon, but the troops adopt a defensive, vigilant position. Zhentarim Outriders from Darkhold are much in evidence providing security for the region.

With them arrive thirty ominous figures; the black armoured, mysterious, Zhentarim Elite, who escort a person of importance onwards to Darkhold.

These the personal guard of Imperceptor Vyshasa, Tyrant of the West, rumoured to be the eye of Fzoul Chembryl himself.

Adventurers brave enough to venture into the Forest of Wyrms and lucky enough to come out alive have been spreading tales lately of an incredibly dangerous creature taking up residence in ruins of Lyran's Hold. They speak of a haunting song heard coming from within, though others tell of horrible shrieking. There are also reports of strange chimeras wandering the woods at times, obviously dead but animated through undeath.

Some dismiss it as strange tales, others consider it more of a reason to not go to Forest of Wyrms. Whatever the truth is, it appears the woods have new residents and some of the most foul sort.

In the course of the last tenday or so, Mag met with many different individuals; some of them could be considered locals while others appeared to be outsiders.

Meanwhile, Red and Hazel could have been spotted back in Soubar.

The other day, the Winding Way Tavern's patrons could have seen a meeting taking place between Red and the local priest, Kazimir Resnik. After the pair parted ways, Red spent another hour at the Inn before she took her leave. On the way back to the Ebon Blade's Fort she was accosted by three men. After having their newest victim surrounded, they began harassing her in a loud and rowdy manner. One of the local traders - a woman known as Oria - attempted to help Red, but it wasn't until the two females stepped in the vicinity of the mercenary's keep that the guard stationed there was able to scare the troublemakers off. The two spoke for a moment then Red asked the guard to escort Oria safely back to her stall.

Unfavorable rumors about the Frilled Lizards group of wannabe-mercenaries have begun to spread among the Soubarians. Female merchants and denizens have been especially vocal about the mistreatment and underhanded comments they have been receiving over the past tenday or so.

Another rumor that has been circulating the tent town's gossip scene spoke of the supposedly enraged Lich Queen chasing a halfling straight into the tent of one of the merchants.

Lastly, Red could have been seen leaving the Ebon Blade's fort again then departing Soubar altogether.

Rumor has it that Soubarian traders are planning to hold a gathering. There are some speculations as to what is supposed to be the subject of that meeting, but most of the merchants appear rather tight-lipped about it. Graham McNolan, a gemstone and spice dealer, could have been seen visiting both Oria and the Alchemist quite frequently over the past few days.

Having seen Resnik hanging around the Oria's tent quite a lot, others talked about the alleged partnership between the priest and the merchant.

Red returned to Soubar in the company of a towering, brawny Calishite male and the two headed straight for the Ebon Blade fort.

///This should have been posted three weeks ago, but RL got in the way for the players involved and for me, and the conclusion of the RP took much longer than expected. Therefore, keep in mind that the timeline has been a bit disrupted.///
DM Arrakeen wrote:Soubar

If the preparations and rumors were not enough to convince the more skeptical of the residents, they couldn't debunk the facts once the Soubarian Traders flocked to the Winding Way Inn to hold the meeting that evening. It was the first time in recent memory when the Tavern's doors were closed to local patrons looking for booze, a place to gossip, or a venue to play cards. Two armed men with shields bearing the crude lizard-like mark stood guard in front of the entrance.

The gathering lasted a few hours, and when the merchants finally emerged from the building, alone or in pairs, they appeared determined and relatively content. What was discussed and what conclusions it brought was anyone's guess at this point. Next morning, Oria Firalis approached the Ebon Blade Fort asking to speak with Miss Brigitte or anyone currently responsible for overseeing the workers.

On a separate note, a new arrival joined the construction site dedicated to the repairs of the settlement's walls. As the rumors would have it, the man, an architect by trade, has been spearheading the project ever since and the results couldn't be more apparent.

Those who kept track of the comings and goings of others could have noticed that Red has not been seen in Soubar for quite some time, whereas Hazel has become a permanent fixture. The hin could have been seen out and about causing mischief and whining about the terrible shortage of cocoa.
