Background: Alyssa is the daughter of a patrician wizardress (Elisea McMarent) and a rich merchant of magic devices established in Waterdeep (Irvin Tessele).

Once a young and broke lad, Irvin found during his adventures an artifact capable of conjuring a powerful devil to this plane. From that happening he gained riches and a beautiful noble wife, but of course things weren't going to last this way forever, given that he traded with the devil Love, Wealth and Popularity for Death, Corruption and Misfortune. When he pledged this pact he had no idea about when, and how, the devil would have ask for its reward, so he just kept on with his life, enjoying the wonderful gifts he had earned.
Death occurred first. The beautiful wife of the merchant died while giving birth to their daughter Alyssa. That moment Irvin started to understand that the consequences of the pact might have been a danger greater than his power. For this reason, even if he was far away from being a good man, he tried to protect his daughter from the haunt of Corruption and Misfortune, that might have hit her one day or another. He granted his only daughter a well-rounded education, prohibiting her to become an adventurer (even if this was her hugest dream). This led the girl to boredom and wish to change her life, making her an unruly person always in opposition with her father. Nevertheless she loved him, and grew up smart, well cultured and healthy.
Misfortune occurred second. One day at the Tessele's a red wizard (Dhalmas) showed up, reclaiming for himself the artifact that Irvin had found during his youth (and that he was keeping under lock in a secret safe). Unfortunately the denial of the merchant caused the anger of the Thayan, whom threatened Irvin to take Alyssa (by that moment a good-looking 18 years old girl) in place of the artifact. So Irvin decided to cooperate, especially fearing that to lose his daughter for the artifact would have brought the step of Corruption. He commanded then Alyssa to go take the artifact in their basement. So she did, leaving her father and the wizard alone upstairs.
Once reached the secret safe of his father, she took the mysterious artifact, which was shaped like a horn.

I can see into your heart. The horn whispered in her mind. I can see you are a good girl. You just want your father to be safe. Well, I am the only reason that gathered that red wizard here into your place. Destroy my cage and I will leave, giving no reason to the Thayan to bother you more. Who is, anyway, going to kill the both of you to get me. Alyssa kept on going, yet considering carefully those words. Somehow they were making sense.
Alright then. Seems that your own safety is not a reason good enough to make you act wisely in this situation. I offer you more, helpless girl. I will give you the chance to grow strong. Stronger even than your dead mother, to be able to protect yourself and your family with your new power. Today you and your father will live. My word. This pact will be a thing between me and you only. Alyssa stopped, while in front of the stairs.
Don't you trust me? Well, I see, but really you just have to be brave and self-confident enough to see that from today on it will be you taking the lead. Flip a coin and choose your fate. Your soul in exchange of the power to keep safe your family or... Ok, if you prefer keep me imprisoned, go upstairs and enjoy a painful death in the Thayan way. Oh… Time has run out. He has come. Alyssa looked in front of her. The red wizard was looking at her from the darkened stairs. Seeing that the girl was holding the artifact, he reached with a hand his reagent pouch.
Alyssa broke the seal. A sudden red light. The wizard stopped. A terrible noise. Fade out.
Corruption.

A new pact mage is born... And well, a flippin' devil is unleashed
"Dad? What has happened, dad?"
"Our home is burning. But we are alive my daughter, I saved you from the flames and the wizard has fled. Nothing else matters. We are safe." He said her.
She smiled. The world around her was a charm of lights. Night has never been that much beautiful. A bit colorless, but bright and not scary at all. She frowned up, while realizing that it wasn't normal. She had never been able to discern darkness like that. She got freak.
"Dad? There is something I have to tell you."
Irvin stopped. No words were necessary.
From that day on, she has chosen to leave Waterdeep, telling everybody that her father was dead, to give him a chance to get a new life. Will she avoid to fall into darkness?
