Calissa Little Cloak
Posted: Fri Apr 19, 2013 6:16 pm
First Name: Calissa
Last Name: Little Cloak
Appearance:
Race: Hin
Age: 22
Height 3'9"
Weight: 73 lbs.
Eyes: Emerald Green
Hair: Sandy Blonde, usually in a neat ponytail.
Personality Profile:
General Health: Calissa is still young, just barely an adult, and she's the very picture of youthful energy. She rarely walks anywhere that she can run.
Deity: Brandobaris ... sorta ... I mean it was the deity her dad worshiped. But Calissa would rather read about deities than go around worshiping them. Things are always so much more exciting in the books!
Initial Alignment: Chaotic Good
Profession: A book worm and a sometimes spy for certain nobles in the noble district. Well, if by spy one means that she knows just enough secrets about the right people that they overlook it when she sneaks into the library.
Base Class & Proposed Development: Rogue. Planned development will end up at 13 Rogue, 10 Arcane Trickster, 7 Wizard.
Habits/Hobbies: Reading, Exploring, Seeing how much trouble she can safely get away with, and Making new friends.
Languages: Common, Hin, Cant, Elvish, Dwarf, Gnome. She taught herself to read other languages so she could read the books that hadn't been translated into common. She sometimes has a hard time with pronunciation, but it's gotten better with practice as she meets new friends that speak the languages.
Weapon of Choice: She keeps a dagger with her at all times, and she also carries a magic crossbow that used to be her father's. He gave it to her for her 21st birthday.
Background:
Calissa grew up in a small Hin community within the walls of Baldur's Gate. She was the only child of a Hin couple that made a meager living by overcharging nobles for fruit at a stand just outside of the gate to the Noble District. As soon as she was old enough, Calissa was tasked with delivering the fruit to their estates and coming back with a full report on the details of the estate's layout and what the best way to sneak in would be. She was sixteen when she was first allowed to sneak into a noble's estate on her own and she was tasked with bringing back enough trinkets, baubles, and gold to support the family for the next month.
The thrill of that first little heist was something she will never forget, but even more importantly, it was when she brought home her first book. It was a thick, leatherbound edition of My Journeys Around the Sea of Fallen Stars with gold filigreed lettering on the cover. It was one of the most beautiful things Calissa had ever seen, and even though she knew it probably wasn't worth as much as the other trinkets she was pilfering, she had to have it.
She read it cover to cover that night. And from there, books became the passion of her life. Whenever she could, she would sneak into the Library and spend hours and sometimes days at a time hidden in the racks and reading everything she could get her little Hin hands on. When she found a book of beginner's cantrips, she decided she would permanently "borrow" it from the library and started practicing magic in the back alleys of her neighborhood at night.
She quickly learned that she was alone in her community when it came to a fascination with books and magic, though. None of her childhood friends had the least amount of interest when she tried sharing the stories she had read with them. And when her parents discovered she was trying to learn cantrips, they grounded her for a month.
None of this dampened Calissa's passion for the wonders of magic and the imagination, though. And now having come of age, she's set out to explore the real world for herself. There's gotta be hundreds - maybe thousands - of other books she hasn't read yet, and she's overheard the nobles talking about a place called Candlekeep where books are the most important thing in the world! She's gonna find that place!
Goals:
Find Candlekeep
Get inside the Library at Candlekeep
Make as many friends as possible
Find as many neat magical items and rare books as possible
Learn lots of new spells
Find new adventures and write about them
Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:
Calissa gives the impression of being a wide-eyed neophyte who is incorrigibly cheerful and believes the best of everyone she meets. But those who spend enough time with her may see some flashes of insight that betray a remarkable intelligence that she has become accustomed to hiding, because bookworms weren't very popular where she grew up. It's also easy to confuse her optimistic outlook on other people as naivete.
She knows that there are some people in the world who are just plain bad, but she's always willing to let them prove that they have no good in them before she'll judge them. And if they do prove to be, well, just plain bad she's keeping a list. She's set her mind to becoming a powerful arcane adventurer, and when she sets her mind to something, not much can push her off course. She knows she'll be strong someday, and when that day comes, she's going to pull out her list...
