Why was the fishing XP cap imposed?

Is it because some players were botting or just becuase it was decided that there should be a limit to how much xp should be derived from fishing?

I think the DM's felt it was strange you could get more fishing vs rp xp.

The bot fishers probably helped bring the xp difference to light.

I think its about 1500 or 1250 xp per server reset. Something along those lines. I don't usually hit it, but I also have 0 survival.

Really loved it when fishing was added. In recent years and especially lately i've been working an insane amount of hours and often when i get home typically about midnight or 1 a.m., I'm too brain dead or tired to try to role play much (not that I'm much good at that anyway, but I do enjoy it), so I usually find it relaxing to grind a bit or maybe quest, and fishing is a nice change of pace, especially if i just feel like vegging out, maybe BSing a little with other fishermen and women, and picking up some XP. Wish there were more "skilling" type activities in general.

I don't think an XP cap should have been imposed, however. For someone like me who doesn't often get in big parties consistently, grinding solo often means a date with Myrkel, and losing a lot of XP, especailly if i get on one of my unlucky streaks

Fishing requires a lot of patience and for those willing to stand out there casting a line over and over, often with long boring spans of no nibbles, why not let them have all the XP they earned?

I sometimes hit the cap in 5-6 minutes with 3-4 fish only...

I just keep fishing anyways, always until I run either 30, or 40 parts of bait.

I think the cap should be 2x as much.. last make it 2k xp...

being it would still take 2 weeks to get a lvl from it realistically. . .

Or bring back the full gold value of the fish . . .

Probably because, as indicated above by Azmodeth, without cap few people can gain enormous amount of experience in lesser time that it would take earning the same amount by travelling dungeons and killing monsters. But it shouldn't be like that. You don't risk anything but the possible loss of your bait when you fish.

yes the exp was to much with 40+ survival is a lot more then you would get killing monsters, and there really wasn't much risk, some people caught marlins more often what is that 600 xp? and if you got to level 30 that way why would would be asking about the cap, you should already know that it was imbalanced. Plus I believe some players were running click scripts timed at every 5 mins or what not, so they didn't even have to be at the computers . That is just my speculation on it.

this picture sums it up

To answer the original post: to stop the abuse of the thing.

Fishing was abused by far too many—some posting in this thread even—to grind-level their PCs, numerous times.

This is the second thread on the subject in as many months.

Sorry folks, but some things are abused by too many players, and when they are and it comes to the Staff's attention, we have the choice of either removing the thing, or capping it.

We decided to cap it, and make it complimentary to what you receive for Roleplay XP.

Why isn't Fishing XP + Roleplay XP combined enough for you for non-adventuring XP gain? Wait, don't answer that.

Because the level-up music is soothing and it makes me all fuzzy inside. XP for fishing seems silly, overally, XP gain seems perfectly fine here. You got a bit of RP XP, a decent amount for killing stuff (and I like killing stuff :o )...what more do you want? <.<

I asked the question because if the cap was imposed solely because of botting, then I was planning on offering to adjust the fishing script to make botting much more difficult. As it seems like it was as much a balance issue as a problem with cheating, the offer would be irrelevant.

fishing with rp xp is insane, before you know it, an hour goes by and you have like 2-3k more xp..

which I find personally a lot.

I only wish there were more then 2 spots players could be close enough to rp with.

They're usually taken up...

I have always found HORRID the idea of grinding levels fishing or with any other macro-able activity. But that is just my personal opinion.

I think that 1k+ xp and the rich gold reward are fair enough for being a fisherman in place of plotting or adventuring with others. :)
RP while fishing is nice, but as other said it should be a little boost to the xp earnings, not the main way to level up.
