Baldur's Gate : The Sword Coast Chronicles : NWN2 Persistent World

The seamstresses in the city are very busy the days before the wedding, everyone wants to look their best at such a celebration!

The infamous captain Kalma Hellstorm and the mercenary Vicala wander down the road in Nashkel, the gusts of wind whipping up snow in their faces as her cloak flaps wildly behind them like a banner from a tower. Kalma walks with purpose in his steps and he rubs his chin again and again, while a plan hatches in his mind. He stops suddenly and instead rubs his hands together.

“Mhrmn!” he proclaims wisely.

Vicala stops as well and stares blankly at him.

He flashes her a greedy grin and produces a piece of parchment he had hidden somewhere in his attire. “This is too good to pass on, aye?” he says and waves the parchment in her face.

“What is— is that the poster you read like a thousand times already? You stole it?” she asks in disbelief and pops the cork of a bottle of wine.

“A gentleman doesn’t steal,” Kalma says matter-of-factly and straightens his scaled jacket. “Did ye read it? Orcess, paladin orders… 1.1 million gold pieces!”

“What of it? They’re just handing out gold randomly?”

“Nay—would ye pay attention just once?! It’s for the winning couple!”

Vicala’s entire face shrinks into dark suspicion. “What is the contest,” she says more than asks, and she keeps a deadly serious tone in her voice.

“Dancing, ye know? Much like knife tag! We can share the gold after we are victorious, savvy? Sixty to me, fourty to ye!” Kalma says and winks charmingly.

Vicala, who just took a sip of her wine, snorts a chuckle and almost chokes, and then sprays the snow at her feet red with wine. She coughs a few times and wipes her chin clean with the back of her hand. She then coughs a few times more and looks at Kalma as if waiting for him to continue. He just stares at her in return. They remain silent for quite a moment, until Vicala gestures impatiently at him.

“The winning couple—that is us!” Kalma’s outburst is very close to Vicala’s face.

“By all the hells. No it most certainly is not!” she hisses back at him and starts walking down the road again.

“Just imagine all the riches!” he yells and hurries after her toward the Northern Lights Inn, a dancing yet awkward skip clearly visible in his step.

// i love reading pirate talk as much as every other sane person, but just to point something out:

the "everyone will be coupled up at the event, no pre-arranged couples" line means that people will be given a random dance partner.

that has 3 reasons:
1: so people can attend and get a chance to win the contest even if they do not have a partner

2: so people cannot "prewrite" the entire dance routine and just play it off like a script with their partner leaving no chance for improvisers

3: we thought the akwardness of people getting a random partner might lead to some good old IC fun.

(( my God, I hope Paws can make it. At the very least, he will lean on his *extensive* bardic abilities and write some poetry.))

The Theater in Baldur's Gate has been very busy the last few days and song and music can be heard from inside. The performers are getting ready for the big celebration.

ooc Royal Wedding??

The rumour quickly spreads along the Sword Coast by those who attended the wedding celebration between lady Narasida Zakine and sir Hernando Albrongardo. Entertainment was provided all night long and many were eager to join the contests. Elril won the poetry contest with the love poem "Hearts" and chose the finely crafted blade named "The Cold Heart" as his prize. Alaithus and Plar won the classical dance contest and split 1.1 million gold pieces between them.

Those who stayed late at the celebration may whisper of some ill befallen the groom.
