Gabriel had grown up admiring his father. Uriel was a shining example of what a paladin should strive to be, well in Gabriel's eyes atleast. The man himself was far from perfect, behind his back in whispers clerics and squires, acoclytes would all jest that perhaps Uriel Stryder would have been better suited as a paladin of Sune. Gabriel was Uriel's eldest child not to mention his only legitimate one. Gabriel was completely unaware of such things until his 10th year when his mother and father got into a huge argument over an "orphan" Uriel had brought home with him.

Gabriel's mother left a week to the day that Jack came to live with them, and none of them saw her again. The only answer Gabriel could ever elicit from his father was, "Your mother left because I am and have been a poor husband, as humans we can only bare so much heart ache..." This was the begining of Uriel's road to the title of functioning alchoholic.

The following month Jack and Gabriel would start thier marshal training, with Uriel as their teacher...
