Magic License & Amn

How does one acquire the license and how much does it cost...?

Do only arcane casters have to worry about the license for casting or do divine casters such as clerics or druids need one as well?

Is it only required in Beregost or Nashkel as well? Technically Nashkel isn't a part of Amn but a self governing town but I'm unsure of those details on the server. Is it considered a part of Amn or not?

Mayor's office. 1000 gold.

I doubt a common guardsman will know the difference between arcane and divine magic. I'd say it's likely that you should need it regardless.

On our server, Nashkel is considered to be part of Amn and thus under the magic laws.

I updated the guards' dialog directing the PC to City Hall.

Thank you!

Can anyone confirm if it applies to all casters? I recall someone once mentioning it only applied to arcane casters, why I'd like a clarification.

Maybe the dude hated gnomes.
If you called her a dude, she probably charged double for that, yes.

Or, as you say, she might just hate gnomes. Don't we all?

I'm sure the guards used to check for a magic license and vary their greeting on entering town dependent on whether you had one.

But they don't seem to do so any more...

I got my magic license now for 1000 gold. Thanks :)

Still wondering if diviners need to apply for one as well...

The Magic License itself states only arcane magic. That either means,

1) There's another version that diviners get which states divine magic instead.
2) Diviners aren't allowed to cast in Amn at all (not likely, seeing the churches)
3) Diviners can cast without a license.

I noticed this too. Did it vanish somewhere along the line? Duster?

The new gatekeeper system has a provision for this but it is not currently active. Along with screen grey orcs and other civilized niceties. It will be changed sometime.... but given IG events in Beregost, who knows when?! Bandits everywhere... gamblers in the tavern. :o

As for divine and/or arcane magic, a source reference should remedy that and the item template adjusted accordingly.

Beneficial Divine magic may be cast freely in any civilized nation by clergy without licensing on the surface. This includes the Gate.

The people in these regions are both reverent and fearful of the gods and their servants and are familiar with public displays of Divine Magic.

So effectively if my bluff was high enough i could convince people that my magic is divine? Even an arcane caster wouldnt be able to tell unless they had knowledge of the shadow weave anyway. As far as they can tell my magic is different yet mimics the effects of normal magic. For all they know it could be divine! :P
