Background:
Cheryl, or Mae to her friends, grew up in the slums of Athkatla where her mother worked as a toy peddler.
Castillo was reported to have committed her first robbery in order to offer a diamond to a swain. Perhaps as part of a deal made with the Amnian authorities, she would later join a regiment as a scout during a small land war with Tethyr. She was not actually present during said war, because she was under arrest at the time. As a condition to not be imprisoned, she was put to work in a textile house.
In 1341 Castillo worked in a pottery studio near the promenade, living in a house fairly close to the docks. She soon quickly cought attention in local taverns, where she developed a knack for certain types of card games. Eventually she would be banned from many of these establishments, but not before making lasting contacts within the seafaring community. She began to frequent bucket shops, where she made her living betting on the amount of goods the docks district did trade in. With her subtle connnections amongst seemingly unimportant crewmembers on various common ships, it did not take much for her to hone an advantage.
Two years later members of the clergy of Waukeen unearthed her shady dealings, and presented her with an ultimatum. She could stop attending the gambling houses and use her talents to help strengthen the trading markets in Athkatla, or she could do nothing and find herself labelled a known cheat. Considering the high likelihood of a price appearing on her head should the latter come to pass, Castillo chose to take the more traditional route to making money.
Castillo lived modestly in local trade, but never quite got to the highs she experienced as a younger woman. Working with the guidance of a church seemed to fill her with a sense of pride however, and asked her church for more fulfilling missions. Her chance did not come until 1349, when she was sent with a few other faithful to help restrengthen the trade bonds between Amn and Baldur's Gate.
Goals:
-Establish more trade routes between Baldur's Gate and Amn.
-Make contacts within the Nashkel Trade Emporium.
-Familiarizing herself with notable captains who frequent the Baldur's Gate docks.
-Become wildly and uncontrollably rich.
