Hello,

My character is a Dragon Warrior (gold) and Elemental archer (cold) so he deals both fire and cold damage. Kinda polar opposite.

I'd rather ask than get in trouble, but is this legal? Or poor form? His back story consists him being rescued by a gold and silver who ran a make shift "orphanage" in the spine of the world and they taught him what he knows.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Seems fine to me.

I've got a few builds in my head that allow you to do rainbow colours . Cold and Fire together barely mean any difference.

Imagine it like how steel is tempered. Heat it up to extreme temperatures, then suddenly cool it down. Expand it, then contract it. Can be very painful I assume if done on something living.

So, on one hand your character has chosen to revere the Gold Dragons and on the other hand, he's learned how to manipulate the Elemental Plane of cold.

It's two very separate fields, but there's nothing lore-wise or game-breaking preventing you from doing it. Your character can be interested in dragons and the elemental planes both. Just as a Frost Mage can cast fire spells.

Personally I'd reconsider the background story. The chances of a gold and silver dragon saving a human is plausible, if remote. Both of them sitting down and teaching him seems like a far stretch. Dragons are very secretive by nature, and won't reveal much to anyone.

Maybe he was saved by two dragons and had a conversation with them on the day of his rescue, since that day he's sought out knowledge of how to emulate dragonkin in an attempt to show his appreciation and come to understand his saviours motives? That also gives your character an in game purpose. Seek out dragon lore, inquire about those knowledgable in the field etc. etc.

That's just my personal opinion of course, use it if you please!

IMHO, your fire and ice proposal is an extreme snowflake. It is not mechanically illegal but RP-wise, I believe it is poor form. May as well toss in a few levels of WM and FB if you can swing it.

But, most of all have fun and be respectful of the setting. Which may (or not) play back to the snowflakiness. Your "story" may just be too WTF? to be credible with other players.

Just ignore everyone and enjoy the game as long as you are not playing an orc.

Silver and gold dragons love infiltrating human societies. While gold dragons mostly use innocent animal forms, silver dragons use human-like forms.

You could perhaps approach it in reverse, saying that your character was saved by a kindly old man(One of the typical silver dragon appearances for male) or a rather alluring female (Female silver dragons usually go for this.)

Over the years, your character tagged along with their rescuer, for whatever reason. Eventually, after finally gaining the dragon's trust, it revealed its true form and taught your character the way of a Silver Dragon Warrior, initiating him into the long journey to perhaps join the said dragon's clan? On my own Silver Dragon Warrior, the "Test of Silver Soul" consisted of my character having to stand tall against the breath of his mentor [Although it was held back]. As for EA, you could go with your character having studied it before becoming infatuated with silver dragons. Perhaps he was infatuated with gold dragons beforehand, and at last found peace with silver dragons?


Here's how my character became an official dragon warrior [DM events/PMs]:

• He sought silver dragons to aid with the curse that ailed him, for as a sorcerer he is descended from them. (Silver dragons and red dragons have a lot of "descendants" actually. They're pretty adventurous! Silver dragons more because of curiosity, red dragons because they want to prepare servants that are powerful but not strong enough to challenge them]
• After visiting a mountain where some records said that dragons of silver type were sighted, he journeyed around it for a long time, despite the harsh wintery conditions, trying to find a dragon. He came upon an alluring "human" bardess, and welcoming some company at last began sharing tales and such. Some mountain ogres attacked and they fended them off, where Hoihe displayed some basic skills he taught himself regarding Dragon Warriors. This, and the fact he basically interrorigated the poor bardess on local silver dragons and told her his tale caught her interest.
• She decided to start teaching him the art of music, and other things. This went on for some time until Hoihe got into her trust. She told him she'll lead him to a silver dragon, led him up the mountain on some very difficult climb.. then turned into a silver dragon.
• Much later, Hoihe returned for "initiation", a test so to say. The rest is very character specific.

Maybe the Bloody and Jealousy chapter of Hoihe's life could give you some inspirations? [How your character met the dragon, who the dragon masqueraded as, etc.]


I don't think it's WTF-ish in any way to claim to have met a silver dragon if your character sheet basically says your character has taken on silver draconic traits, which in Faerun, unlike in Kara-Tur, can be learned from the dragons themselves on how to reproduce or from perhaps specified clans. Even with specified clans, there might be meetings with the clan "Patron".


Remember folk.. Silver dragon-blooded people are numerous, and silver dragons themselves are often very curious as to how non-dragons work. The shorter lived, the more curious.


And as I said before, fire and ice can actually work well together. An arrow that ignites the enemy, then as their armour expands/melts, it suddenly contracts from extreme cold, maybe binding it with the body underneath?

I got a ton of snowflake characters.

But I am afraid the above does feel little too over the top.

So how about making the following changes to it:

• A metallic dragon (most probably a silver one) heard the cry of a few months old baby among the frozen ruins of a destroyed home. The dragon grabbed the baby and flew it to a 'nearby' 'make shift' orphanage found in the Spine of the World. This orphanage was run by an odd former adventure couple of a dwarf and an elf. As the setting sun set the dragon's scales ablaze, the elven and dwarven foster parents still do not agree whether it was a Gold or a Silver scaled dragon. Regardless, influenced by this story, your character has taken a considerably admiration towards all metallic dragons. The dwarven foster parent thought toughness (Dragon Warrior) and your elven foster parent thought you they way of the bow (Elemental Archer), and you yourself did your best to emulate with both Golden and Silver dragons as homage to saving your life from a certain death.

Your place of birth could be easily few mountains off from the make shift orphanage, and it is one interesting point in a character's history to visit ruins of past home. (And finding that the ruin is meaningless, no memories to tie you to it. Although, any found small trinket on the location migth grow personally precious.)

Hoihe, it is one thing to claim to have met dragons. It is another to claim to be raised by two. I have made this mistake myself, years ago, and today I would never consider such over the top backround myself. (Unless trying to pull satire out of fantasy tropes.)

True enough, and that is why I suggested this Dragon in Disguise thing. Maybe mend the two? Your suggestion and mine. It can easily happen to meet a dragon and be none the wiser. Maybe pick that dragon's interest and have him/her for a while.

Thank you for the advice and guidance, and taking the time to offer them up.

I admit the story is a little out there and a bit over the top. It could happen in the FR (crazier things have), just way over my head for right now Im thinking. Im still trying to shake the RP dust off and get back into it. Will trim it down a bit, or start over.

Depends on how much you really love the Character's RP vs. what other people think of him. I built a Ranger Wizard combination for my main because I love the diverse gameplay and inspite of the fact it isn't very powerful. I made the fateful mistake of giving him 8 Charisma and although he can use Eagle's Splender anytime he is in a fateful position, I became so upset when others derided me as an elven power builder

Well, I loved his RP and made it unique as I could, though I still get a little sensitive. Just know that if you go into this, you are going to have your eye rollers and you can't get upset about it. If you don't want to deal with it, make a change!

Now, I only build distrustingly OP high Charisma EDM Elves

On a more serious note, its an interesting class combination though I am unsure as to how effective it will really be.
PvP wise id say the combination of cold and fire isnt exactly stellar, then again my view maybe somewhat narrowminded due to the climate in the Netherese Maze.

The classes themselves are legal enough since they are allowed to be taken without restrictions currently.

Being raised by dragons, of different shades to boot, in a joint venture might be a bit much on the snowflake scale.
Then again I know a toon raised by goblins and gnolls, in fact twisted childhood isnt an uncommon theme among the toons we populate the server with.

We have hordes of orken monk/clerics and evil aasimar so why not a fire and ice archer raised by dragons.
Though if it doesnt have the draconic language id be somewhat disappointed.

Well, personally I feel embarrassed everytime I make a drow with a CHA below 12.
Any character with an INT below 14 makes me feel unhappy, its the skill monkey in me I guess.
We all have our quirks.

hmm a druid 6 / stormlord 10 / dragon warrior 4 / warrior of darkness 10

take a flame weapon or coat a mundane with flame blade druid spell, add electric and sonic from stormlord, cold from dragon warior and acid form warrior of darkness

That's the beauty of the Forgotten Realms. Anything can, and will happen. The books have shown that. It's the realms of possibilities which is why I love it.

Except when you got 12+ of those super-duper 'exceptional' exceptions sitting by the campfire. It is just so absurd, and that is usually the moment when most people start to think that "Bob son of Local Farmer Thom" is pretty exciting and neat.
