Pick pocket and PvP

I seem to recall that there was something in the rules about pick pocketing / sleight of hand. If you pick pocketed someone, you could be PvPed without an RP out offered, something like that? I can't find it and nothing comes up with a search. Am I just imagining ever seeing this?

Having had (and now *have*) a pickpocketer, I do recall caught = PvP. Now it has been a few years, but I don't recall that rule changing.
As in, if you are spotted, then the victim can put a warhammer through your skull. That doesn't mean they *will* but they certainly *can.*
Still wish that (given the risk) You got more than 50g. (Kinda wish it depended on level of the victim. Greater risk = greater reward).

Yes, if someone pickpockets you and you find out it's fair game. It helps to say a sentence or so before sticking them though.

It has been years, of course, but that has always been the case as I understood it.
The thinking has been that the 'out' was in never having picked your pocket, and that by engaging in a form of hostility you were auto-consenting to aggressive game play.
While hitman has a point (that it would be nice to say something before striking) it is hard to react, type something out, ready a weapon, etc all while the thief is running away as fast as can be.
That said, with PP in its current form it is hardly more than an annoyance and intro for RP, so hopefully the thief would at least try to RP it all out.

Glad I'm not imagining it but surely that should be written in the rules, if it still is the case?

I think the script was changed so they can't steal more then...like 15 gold and only gold(last thing I want is a thief taking my...Hellball Scroll).
I don't know...does being caught auto-attack the thief, I swear recalling getting pickpocketed and then stabbing and paralyzing the thief without me even thinking about it >.<

It's about 50-60g right now.
It doesn't auto-hostile (I think it did for a little while, I'm usure). At least as of yesterday it didn't. Heheh.

was in the pvp rules but yea its gone now
the script takes care of "grieving" but doesnt do anything for actual pvp

I know it didn't auto-hostile, I mean just plain attack, without setting to hostile or anything. I can just remember a being lower level(Probably at least 15 or so, maybe lower) and getting pick pocketed outside Maltz's and just stabbing the thief and leaving them paralzyed...and then I think(I forgot his name...massive cheater and exploiter Rog/Wiz/AT) turning the dude to stone and we left the player there. Haha

It doesn't do the auto-attack.
Once upon a time, I think it did. But my memory is terrible.

Should be, yes.

Pick-pocketing does not seem equal offense to attacking someone and attempting to kill them (my assumption of what PvP usually amounts too).
It would be of great service to the action of PvP if there was an intermediary stage of "subdue," before one PC causes the "dying" of another.
Otherwise, it is a simple action-calculation:
1. Pick-pocket success = gold in pocket of thief. Victim is unaware.
2. Pick-pocket NOT a success = victim successfully spots thief. First, victim sets thief to Hostile (a fair reaction attempted robbery), then Role-plays a reaction. If thief runs (RP Out), victim knows thief's identity (or the Players enact a chase and catch-me-if-you-can role-play). If the thief tries to bluff or diplomate their way out, that is another Role-play path. Thief could also stand their ground, pull a knife, etc....commencing actual, mechanical PvP.
Remember: setting another PC to Hostile DOES NOT EQUAL "attack now now now" MODE! After setting to Hostile, there is still to be an Role-play out given.
The PvP Rules are clear (
http://bgtscc.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3170). Pay attention to the Three Yellow Colored Lines at the beginning, please.
My main point here is: Role-play the situation.

well PP is auto pvp consent so how are they getting an rp out?
i mean after all letting a thief that has auto consented get away is kinda like letting someone who is hostile towards you start casting and buff up, do you really wanna do it...
