A notice is posted on boards around Baldur's Gate:

For the attention of the people of Tethyr currently in exile in this part of the Coast;

Greetings to you all,

My name is Hendrick Dolban, a simple scribe, steward and keeper of books, forced to flee my beloved homeland due to the vile regicides committed in the Year of the Bright Blade and the subsequent collapse of Alemandrian order.

I beseech all good Tethyrian nationals and patriots to meet with me in the next tenday such that we might ascertain if there is anything that can be done to help our stricken Tethyr in her moment of direst need.

Even if you carry in your heart resentment at the injustices committed by those unworthy to call themselves nobles of Tethyr in times past, I beg that you place those disquiets behind you in the name of our beautiful, fallen land.

Taking heed of the notice during one of his masters many errands, Dartryn Malacant stops quickly in his tracks. Running a hand through his tussled hair he read the notice twice before moving along. He hadn't been back to Velen since he left to find work during the Amnian Wars. He doubted he would ever return now that it was in such disarray.

Still, the thought of seeing what sort of wretched filth had washed north from his forsaken homeland did intrigue him..

It was settled then. He would at least see what the men had to say.
