Divine Buff Routine?

Unread post by Planehopper »

Seeing the Gish list reminded me to ask..

Would anyone be willing to provide their normal 'buff routine' for a divine caster? I am new to divine characters, pretty clueless, and am running with a whole lot of trial and error (mostly error) right now.

I am playing a Cleric, with STR and GOOD domains, so I do have Magic Circle, Divine Power, and Bulls available a little earlier.

I have been going with extended 'Animal' buffs, Magic Vestment, Grtr Magic Weapon, Weapon of Impact, Superior Resistance, and using Divine Power regularly, with Battletide and Righteous Might used situationally.

I am sure I am missing some though, right? What are your cleric's daily prayers? What do you all use?

Any tips, tricks, or otherwise handy things to know about playing a divine build?

My standard buffs when I enter a dungeon are Ext Spell resistance, ext true seeing, ext magic vestment for armor and shield, ext blindsight, ext bulls and bears, ext shield of faith, ext conviction, ext entropic shield, ext freed of movement, ext greater magic weapon, protection from evil, death ward, ext aid, ext bless and energy protection.

My battle buffs before bosses and the like are ext prayer, ext battletide, divine power (norm and ext) divine favor (norm and ext), ext iron body, ext rescuscitation.

I Keep a mass heal and two heals always available, a spell mantle and an elder elemental a summons readily available.

Offensive spells I use are earthquakes, hammer of the gods and destruction.

I'm sure missed something, can't recall everything right now though

Thank you! That is very helpful. That is a whooooole lot of buffing, but helpful. :D

Besides looking completely bad-to-the-bone, is the Angel from the 'Gate' spell worth the spell slot?

The DCs on my spells aren't fabulous, so I am not much of a 'caster' cleric. Any good niche spells in the upper levels you can think of?

A few : energy drain, storm of vengeance, blood to water, harm. Blade barrier is not bad either, even without a huge DC.

I use earthquake because there's no SR save and doesn't affect me.
I use Hammer on the fighter types since it's a will save with a possibility of a stun
I use destruction on casters since it's a fort save

I forgot to say I use ext eagles when going to battle undead. The mass heal helps when your surrounded because it attacks them with positive energy making it a lot easier

Yea it is. I usually que up the spell sequence then go do some laundry, the dishes, a bathroom break, maybe go for a jog and by the time I get back to the computer he's just about finished up

Ha ha ha!

I will just set up my macros for a little Lathander-Love prayers and shoot them off in between all of the buffing.

Thanks again for your help, this gives me some things to play with tonight. I appreciate it.
